I thought as much.Would it be advisable to remove the affected areas of Riccardia or just let it sort itself out and the shrimp clean it up a bit?
Actually this evening some pieces are looking are showing tiny tiny improvements. Not out of the woods by a long way but hopeful!
Agree with the 2 comments above.Fingers crossed they will bounce back.Have also experienced a similar situation.Change of light if stronger could possibly be the cause as the plant would require more CO2.
This set up is only been running for about 2 weeks. But really struggling with Riccardia.Very quickly started to turn brown/black/grey and melt.I had used some liquid carbon initially and that could have been a problem. But the past 7 days have not been using it and have done numerous water...
Hi,it's most likely leeched from the wood.No problem remove and scrub it off.I like to soak my wood a bit before putting it in the tank in a bucket changing the water regularly to remove tannins and more often than not you get this kind of slime, quick scrub it's off.Might come back and you have...
Not easy to see could be a repens of some sort.I have some in my tank, when low and close to the substrate is green as it grows(and grows quick)changes to an olive green then reddish colour.Really red on the underside of the leaves.Cheers Mark
They were probably on the way out.But I have seen this with Staurogyne repens and there is every chance if you have altered the conditions they will grow back perfectly. When they start to melt the leaves are lost but just stick with it and monitor the Co2 delivery.Cheers Mark
Thanks Darrel that's it!When I purchased it was in rough shape. Some leaves longer and dying off(presume emersed growth)and some shorter thicker leaves emerging(aquatic growth).I cleaned it up removing all the longer leaves just leaving the new growth and planted it in two different spots in the...
Two weeks ago I purchased a plant called Littorella uniflora at my LFS because I had never heard of it and was interested to see how it would go.Shop staff knew very little about it other than it was rarely seen on sale.I found some info about it on the net but was wondering if anyone has kept...
I think that's a good idea.A change of flow might be the game changer! The plants under the direct light need a very good co2 supply. If you have no melt on other Staurogyne or indeed other plants in different areas of the tank you have the answer.Cheers Mark
I saw in your 1st post they are a week old.I had an up and down start myself with this plant and have to say that it does bounce back well when established,so would give it a bit more time.I had a problem with my Staurogyne that under direct light was melting and not under direct light were...
Have you just recently planted tank?If the Staurogyne has become a bit pale in colour(transparent/grey)then it is melting. How is your flow in this area of the tank? And colour of drop checker throughout your lighting period?Cheers Mark
Hi,
To me the grain size of the substrate is to big to be a good substrate for HC i would go for a much smaller grade to enable the tiny roots more chance of getting a hold.Better off with a shorter lighting period when starting off HC(6 hours max).If you have no livestock in up the co2...
Yes agree totaly about the dropchecker as in my tank it is yellow before the end of the lighting period and the livestock are behaving in a normal manner.I am refering to the dropchecker a lot less now watching plants and livestock a lot more. Thanks for your advice much appreciated.Cheers mark
Thanks to you Clive and the other experts on the forum i am starting to get an idea of what The Matrix is all about!Keep the invaluable advice coming.Cheers mark
Seems like i have been able to sort this one out!Changed the flow in the tank a bit after a few trys i was happy with it also upped the co2 to the limit carefully watching the fish more than the dropchecker, and now have it running like this for a couple of weeks.Much higher level of co2 in the...
Did a 10 hour replant of a HC carpet the other month(just with stems) knackering but better than being at work!A lot depends on substrate you use i have never had a problem with HC coming out of the substrate using either method using JBL manando. If you have sand or maybe a too Large granual...
Hi,when you get your pot of HC remove from plastic pot cut off most of the wool media leaving about 1cm under the plant then cut into aprox 6 portions.Plant then into substrate using planting tweezers leaving just the top leaves showing.Should be fine depending on your substrate and the fish you...
There are so many foreground/carpeting plants depends on your taste and your tank specs have a look at the tropica website or one of our sponsers who stock plants. Then you can get an idea on what they look like and the conditions they need to be able to flourish.Same goes really for plants that...
Thanks for your help Ady on the good side i need to trim the staurogyne in my nano so that replaces what i am losing in my big tank so at least i can try again without going plant shopping.Strange though HC is healthy growing touching melting staurogyne,i suppose some plants needs differ.Will...
Yeah your right Ady i am thinking about more flow at present have about 8 x tank volume pump from filter and Tunze circulation pump could invest in another circulation pump which might give me more control of the flow.At present filter pump and circulation pump flow down the back wall hit the...
Yep could do at the moment at 17.00 2 come on at 18.00 other 2 come on at 23.00 2 go off at 24.00 tank bed time.Lights are 36 watt T8 dennerle special plant about 12 months old.I used to run the lights for far longer but after reading some stuff from Clive decided to leave the Clingon way of...
Did up co2 DC is yellow but fish look fine also added some LC will carry on like this and see what happens.Maybe need to look at some change in flow if this does not sort out the problem.Cheers mark
This did happen to me a staurogyne grew from the remains i had le ft in the substrate. It's weird i have a couple melting in the middle of a group that look to be doing fine.At least i can replace them with the constant cuttings i get from my nano tank where they grow mental no idea why this...
No Ady was Aquafleur in a pot mate.It is still growing fine in some parts of the tank will try and up co2 even more if possible but DC yesterday was basicaly yellow with 2 hours left on the lighting period. Will add LC too maybe more N in my ferts.Cheers mark
Thanks for your answer have to be a bit carefull with the fish they were on the surface looking a bit gassed a few weeks ago when i upped the gas a bit too much yeah with close observation i will try and up it a touch more.Might be an idea to up N in the EI dosing.Cheers mark
In my 450L tank i have some issues with my staurogyne repens, the leaves on some plants are turning a greyish colour and then going mushy and disintergrating.I had this before and upped the co2 and increased the flow in the tank changed the tank scape and planting a bit as well to get good flow...
Agree with what George wrote personal choice you can use both together HC for sure a bit more difficult to maintain as eleocharis but is faster growing and covers the substrate completely. You can use corydoras such as pygmaeus or hastatus no problem with HC.Cheers mark
This is something i must do with rotala also to try to get a good dense bush growth. What sort of growth did you get after the 1st trim that you did, what was the new growth like? What you have started here is a big help to me and i would think many others thanks.Cheers mark
You could be right looks about the same very hard to tell i think i read id via flower is easier but i guess that means emersed growing.Maybe a crypt expert will give you the thumbs up on nurii it certainly looks like yours.Cheers mark.
As Paolo said Co2 is very important for staurogyne repens having said this have grown it well in my nano using LC and 11w of light. With Co2 the growth rate is considerably faster.Cheers mark
Good info from Iain i can recomend Aquariumplantfood EI starter pack very good value for money all ferts catered for after reading article by ceg you will have more insight.Agree with Iain 7 hours is enough light and co2 on 2 hours before lights on is a good move.50% water change a week keep...
No but you can be sure that ferts in tank are taken care of ceg's article is a must read!!Jason give more tank info so the members can help you Co2 input into tank, dropchecker colour at lights on and through the photoperiod,we know tank is lit for 8 hours but type/strength of lighting, flow in...
If you are only dosing Seachem Flourish ferts are lacking in your tank. For better growth and healthier plants get an E.I dosing pack from one of our sponsers works out cheaper and covers all the ferts you need for your plants.Read the Tutorial written by Ceg about E.I dosing very worthwhile...
Rotala will produce side shoots to try and wait till it reaches the surface of your tank before to cut it the tips may become a nice pinkish colour patience with P.Stellata good Co2 needed, good luck mate!Cheers mark
Hi Jason I'm guessing the plants are fairly new and this is their 1st trim, good chance these plants were grown emersed to start with. Can you notice any differance in the leaf form from the bottom and top sections? The top sections should be fine now and will grow quickly providing aquarium...
Depends on your tank specs especialy lighting R.undulatus has varying stem growth height due to light as alot of plants.I tend to agree with Nathaniel.Cheers mark
