    Aquascaping Contest Scandal

There's a bit of a difference between adjusting the contrast and brightness sliders vs copying and pasting your fish though. I thought that these contests asked for RAW photo files to be kept so quite suprised that ADA did not ask for and check these from the winning entries.

Critique my hardscape First proper hardscape

Hardscape is way too small/low and background is very distracting.
  3. L

0£ hardscape, any good? 60cm/50liters tank.

Looks very nice! I would just make sure you give it a good soak in case there are any extra contaminants e.g. salt.
  4. L

    Critique my hardscape

They actually meant to far backward - no space for any plants behind.

    Thinking inside the box

I would have the substrate more or less uniform across the front - max around 4 cm. I would get a much larger rock for the main rock (the current main rock you have is probably perfect for 45p). The rock on the right looks a bit out of place currently, however you could cover it with...

    Glass lily pipe set

I got ADA after previously having Dymax... not a lot of choice in Australia. ADA much better because the the outlet size is much smaller and appropriate for the tank generating higher flow.

    Glass lily pipe set

There's loads of other brands on aquasabi too... not sure about stock levels but ADA certainly isn't the only one. The other option is to buy a pipe reducer.

    First Iwagumi

Thank you very much, think I will probably go for this one. Any ideas for plant species anyone? Going for CO2 and ADA ferts. I'm thinking HC for a the front bit at least as anything else might be a bit tall.
  9. L

    First Iwagumi

So, got the other rock today at work and got home and smashed it. Here's what I've come up with, the rocks are now all taller so hopefully with a small plant like HC and low pruning I shouldn't have a problem with disappearing rocks so much. I took a couple of shots with level and sloped...

    First Iwagumi

Yeah, think I'm going to have problems with the plants being too big though :/.

    First Iwagumi

Yeah it's just I am about a centimetre or two from the lower grill! As you've worked with this tank, you'll know where it is, do you think covering this up will pose any problems? What would you say was the better scape? Think I'm going to have to discover some insanely low plant for the...

    First Iwagumi

Just done another scape guys, did the rock smashing as I did and now I've made a three rock scape with rocks a bit larger than the last one. As a note, I envy people with rectangle tanks that aren't the size of a pint glass right now. Think this one trumps the last one, think I might need to...
  13. L

    First Iwagumi

Yeah that's what I was thinking but I didn't want to impose too much on the middle rock cause it's pretty good. I could try and have another go and smashing my other large rocks and see what I come up with. I still have a couple of centimetres of AS powder to go in also. Not really sure what...

    First Iwagumi

Just thought I'd make a post here to see what people thought about it and how I can improve it. It's pretty much my first attempt at a proper scape let alone Iwagumi so here goes. Been quite hard to make it look good due to the viewable dimensions on being 17cm x 15cm x 22cm.

Has anyone ever used Spaghetti rock?

It is most likely to fail the fizz test is I'm pretty certain it contains calcium as it is indeed marine rock.

    Help needed on aquascaping

I quite like the general idea, I'm no expert but maybe you could spread rock into other areas of the tank rather than having it mainly in one section, and also the transition between soil heights may be a bit harsh.
  19. L

    A reefer take on aquascaping

Yeah ok I didn't completely discount it, just thought it's not important as in the plant hobby IMO, and my marine tank isn't a rock wall. However, conversely you do get some nice rock wall esque scapes, do to the nature of the rock the walls have different depth and height etc and caves and so...

    A reefer take on aquascaping

Oi some of us here are reefers :P. Aquascaping isn't too important in a reef tank though really, because if you end up heavily stocked with corals they will grow out and become the aquascape.

    New tank - 4ft

Just to say about Angelfish I bought a pair and they now breed! (And I don't even do water changes very often at all.) Anyway what happens is they usually spawn on my Juwel Filter or Fluval Filter inlet and in their last spawn a few of the eggs hatched. I put them into a breeding cage but my...

How do you scape a tall cube?

Just going to bump this thread as I want to start over again. I'm thinking of going with mainly crypts and different sizes and some wood here and there with moss on (already have the wood and moss). Obviously I'll want some balanse (excuse my spelling of it) and then varying sizes right down...

How do you scape a tall cube?

How do you scape a tall cube?

Why'd I need more tubing? Can't I cut the stuff I get with the Easy Set? My Dad can get a timer easy. I'd just need the plug. Which is like £5. JBL comes with a check valve. If I have a Drop Checker (included with JBL) would I still need a bubble counter? Shopping list: Jbl Set Easy 1...

How do you scape a tall cube?

Well without a solenoid 2kg would run for 9 months, but the 500g I'll use only 2.25 months. If I had a solenoid it'd be at least about 5 months (if I'm lucky) and since I'm only 14 would be much more affordable for me. Would that solenoid work with JBL Set Easy 1? If so I'd have a Co2 kit with...

How do you scape a tall cube?

Well I am only 14 Years old (almost 15) and I don't think I'd be safe to work around a FE. I don't think my Dad would want to do it either really. Isn't there a way to get the reg to fit welding bottles or something? I may ask my Dad about a FE but I'm not sure if he'd do it. Nah I just asked...

How do you scape a tall cube?

Is that Java fern in there with the crypts, or is it a form of crypt? Yeah that was the tank I was thinking of, thanks a lot. So basically I need to get lots of crypts. (I also forgot I couldn't really do Iwagumi because I need some wood for my Clown Pleco.) I've made a post in the CO2 forum...

Ok well I have a Juwel Lido 120 (60 x 40 x 60cm) and I'm kind of confused about what plants to use and how to scape it. - 2 x 24W Juwel T5HOs (Amazon Frogbit avaliable to dim the lights) - No CO2 - EI solutions that Ceg told me to use (I don't think these are regular EI) KNO3, KH2PO4, MgSO4...

Possible Moss tank with Fish and Shrimp.

Wow you seem to have got a lot out of that 2kg. Maybe I shall see what other stuff I could spend some money on. Since you get a lot maybe I should just buy lots of rock instead of wood. Not sure what to buy off AE really.
  45. L

Possible Moss tank with Fish and Shrimp.

No problem with the hijacking. I'm sure I will have moss growing up my bedroom wall by the time I get my tank set up.

Possible Moss tank with Fish and Shrimp.

Well if I managed to have enough cash to spend £50 on Aqua Essentials (which I probably will) I'll buy a bit of redmoor (It comes singulary I think, I'm not sure the site description is a bit confusing) I should get like 12kg of rock and a bit of redmoor. Should be plenty to be honest. It'd...

Possible Moss tank with Fish and Shrimp.

Tom's Tank seems to have riccia instead of moss. I'd be a bit worried getting the landscape rock since It costs quite a bit and I wouldn't know if I had got enough. Maybe if I get some rock and some redmoor wood. There's two things wrong with getting rid of the fish: 1. My parents 2. Will the...

Possible Moss tank with Fish and Shrimp.

If I were to change my Black Neons and Phantoms to something smaller then I'd have to take them to the fish shop which I'm not sure If I would be able to do. Does anyone else want to answer my questions rather than criticise my fish choice. The tank is practically almost a 2fter anyway. -...

Possible Moss tank with Fish and Shrimp.

I don't really see my parents letting me take my fish back to the shop (even if they do take them!) but I will ask. Possible Moss tank with Fish and Shrimp.

I already have the tetras otherwise I'd probably try flame tetras or harlequins or something. Frogbit is a great idea (especially since I have plentiful supply with huge roots in my main tank  .)
  53. L

Possible Moss tank with Fish and Shrimp.

Since it's nearly my birthday I am looking at making use of my 9g tank. I was thinking of making it a moss tank since it would be a cheap solution and I could use the equipment I already have. The tank is 50cm x 25cm x 30cm and has 14w of T8 light. Making about 1.5WPG of T8. I will have ferts...

I did take some photos... but that was kind of before I did the rescape. By the way my snails have started multiplying, last night I saw 7 babies on my wood, just now I saw a few around. I'm thinking about getting a plant to attach to my wood. I like Anubias, of yes and I'm recieveing some...

Ok then new shopping list. - TPN+ - Excel I suppose it'd be better to leave out the co2 for now and see how they do on this. - Ok, as I'll keep low-tech how much water change should I do and how often? - Do you think the crypt leaves are naturally brown? They seem to grow brown rather than...

Would those plants be ok under my light? I can't dose excel because I don't have any. Ok then I have one answer, it says dose 5ml per week per 50l of water so I'd dose about 10ml per week. Ok then I think I shall try reducing my light from 10 hours to 7 hours with 3 1 hour gaps. Sounds good...

    I am not happy.

Ok well I am looking to get CO2 pretty soon anyway. I'll be having 2 Nutrafin Canisters and two rhinox 1000s if nry wakes up. I haven't really been doing many water changes, nowadays I only do it when my test kit says so because my typical stats have been: Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 10-20 pH...

I really thought I was going to succeed this time, but at least I now know that it's far from a piece of cake.
