Anyone any good at pleco ID'ing?

    Possibly a Rusty Pleco http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/hypostomus-sp/ http://www.badmanstropicalfish.com/species-gallery/catfish/hypostomus_cochliodon.html hmm

Anyone any good at pleco ID'ing?

Hi peeps, Am aiming at renovating a tank for a friend and, as ever, there is a big pleco that I feel is going to be an issue for the "out of the box", badly maintained, Rio 240. I managed to grab a couple of photos (not great) and have been searching through the L-lists to get an ID but am...

    Angels and Amano's

There are an existing group of black phantoms and black widow tetra in there just now, i just wanted to relocate these lampeyes into that tank while removing the livebreeders and a monstrous red tailed shark.

    Angels and Amano's

Yeah that is why I kind of came here rather then dismissing the idea from the initial google search "Amano's with Angel Fish". I have a bunch of massive amano's to use too so i'm sure they are even a touch too big for the angel mouths. Otos - great. The lampeyes are the biggest i've ever seen...

    Angels and Amano's

I'm pretty sure i know the answer to this one, since the Angels are renowned for sticking anything they can in their mouths and predation of cardinals.... But.... I've got a tank with three medium angels that I want to put amano's in. The tank is going to have a full tear down and scape...

    Catching young plecs...

Hi, One of the tanks i'm looking after has a bit of a plec population explosion. The youngsters are now big enough to sell on but i'd like a bit of advice on the best way to catch them. Anyone point me to a cheap and easy fish trap or ninja technique that will avoid me playing "chase the fish"...

    Golden RAMs

Hi, I'm loving the Golden RAMS i got for my corner but I did the same stocking I used for my other dwarf cichlids in the past of a male and two females.... Was I wrong in this for RAMS? do they pair up and not bother about other females? or is it advisable to have another woman to stop him...

What algae busting crew is suitable - Tiger Barbs

what do you guys think about Amano's and tiger barbs? stick a couple in a see?
  13. JohnC

What algae busting crew is suitable - Tiger Barbs

Yeah, I'd rather not do plec's. What size is your tiger barb grouping?

What algae busting crew is suitable - Tiger Barbs

I'm just repeating more what I read about them and oto's rather then speaking from experience. Tbh i'd always choose oto's over bristlenose plec's anyday. love oto's. what do you think is the optimal small group size for tigers to keep them looking inwards?

What algae busting crew is suitable - Tiger Barbs

Hi, I'm wanting to suggest a clean up crew for a tank with a bunch of tiger barbs but i understand they are not safe to keep with Amano's and Otos.... does anyone have any experience of this? Is a bristlenose plec or two the next best alternative? Cheers in advance, John
  16. JohnC

    Hisonotus leucofrenatus

it's not the threat it's aesthetics. at 2.5 inches they could be the biggest thing in the tank. I'd prefer my clean up crew to be more discrete. 8)
  17. JohnC

    Hisonotus leucofrenatus

two inch's is bigger then any oto i've ever kept before.... I don't think i've ever had one max out at more then 2 inches.... and even he was "the big oto in the tank". perhaps the suppliers i've used have only given me smaller varieties before.... but i can't say i've only bought from one...

    Hisonotus leucofrenatus

Hisonotus leucofrenatus or Black Oto's as they are otherwise called. I've been offered some of these and am being slightly put off by the information on the max size i'm finding on the net. Can anyone confirm how big these lovely fish grow? Thanks, John

    Ichthyobodo? second opinion please....

Hi, I've got a couple of my lamp eyes looking off. Swimming slow and top fins down. One is much whiter then usual with a patch you will see on the photos. The second is in one of the photos with a slight white patch and a ragged tail. I'm very inexperinced in fish health and i've been lucky so...

    Tinfoil Barbs & Golden Severums?

I did not know you could turn it down. The other solution I was looking at was this APS box filter. http://www.allpondsolutions.co.uk/aquar ... 50l-h.html But the dimensions indicate it's bloody massive. 25cm x 15cm x 37cm. Plus point would it be cheaper and I could use my own media...

    Tinfoil Barbs & Golden Severums?

Currently i'm thinking i'll add a couple of modular baskets to the existing 160 as all reports i've read is they don't loose much flow. This would give the extra media volume of the largest of the range but only cost £20.
  22. JohnC

    Tinfoil Barbs & Golden Severums?

Alas no, from what I can tell it is a Eheim Biopower internal 160 (it only has the two baskets). That would have the a performance of around 380 l/h max. No room for an external. I'm doing him a quote tomorrow and think i'll have to stick down a filter upgrade too. There is no room for an...

    Tinfoil Barbs & Golden Severums?

Anyone have any experience with the Red-tailed Tinfoil Barb & Parrot fish and plants at all? or am I just mental for considering it? I'm musing over a lid mounted root dangling in the water with java ferns and anubias glued to it. Additionally, since both these species will eat oto's and...

    Tinfoil Barbs & Golden Severums?

Too narrow. 120cm x 28cm x 45cm A plus point on the tinfoil barbs. It looks like there are two kinds and these are Barbonymus altus, which are the smaller of the two. Still too big though. http://www.seriouslyfish.com/search/tinfoil+barb

    Tinfoil Barbs & Golden Severums?

He assures me nothing has died in ages other then a huge plec. The volume of the tank is only 150 ish litres.

    Tinfoil Barbs & Golden Severums?

Parrot Cichlid looks right. I'm looking into revamping this tank but think i'll have to try and persuade the owner to get rid of these fish if he wants to go the planted route. Not only is the tank way too small for the 4 tinfoils and 4 parrots, in my opinion, the tinfoils will destroy any...

    Sparkling Gourami Vs Cherry Shrimp

Oddly my pair were more social able in a mixed community tank with slow movers and a couple of old cherries. It's just now they have a large school of lampeyes in a new tank they are very shy.

    Sparkling Gourami Vs Cherry Shrimp

Mine are fine with my small amanos but I can't say in regards to smaller shrimp. As for aggression I've found them very timid. Currently my pair are constantly hiding from a shoal of lamp eyes :-( Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

    Oto Eggs - Semi Urgent.

I love my Nertite snails. They won't cause a population problem as they only breed in brackish. Not overly bothered about the look, a few tiny white dots on the leaves. Was kinda hoping for baby oto's thou.... :) Thanks for the prompt answers guys. Best Regards, John

    Oto Eggs - Semi Urgent.

Hi, I've just noticed some small white oval eggs in my 70L DIY tank. They are on leaves, in small lines or groups of 3 or 4. The only thing in the tank are 3 oto's, 7 amanos and 3 nertite snails. Have my oto's bread? I presume the amano's will eat the eggs very soon unless I move them. I...

    Badis?

i'd very much recommend pygmy cories (pygmaeus) they are packed with character and lovely in small groups. I've got 10 in my corner tank.

    Badis?

Dario Dario are amazing. (Scarlet Badis) I have a pair in my corner. They are shy however, and ive had males be overly hostile to each other. I'd agree that I would not keep them in a shrimp breeding tank, they prefer live foods. I think i was told they are proper carnivores so make an effort...
