    Weeping moss – Rock-Lava-Unzan

Weeping, in my experience is one of the types that tended to come loose when it grew denser. I did superglue mine last time i did it on rock. Probably due to it's natural shading as it layers on top of each other. Tieing it on will probably give it a much better footing in the long term thou.

Be Plant Wise - Disposal of aquatic plants

i've recently moved to a house up in the highlands with a septic tank that has a seep away into a small burn. that burn flows into a wider road drainage system which at some point ends up in a local river as far as i know (we are ten miles away from any large town). it's made me double up my...

Limnophila aromatica is a great plant. used that in my first scapes years ago.

    The Edible Planted Tank

Someone was telling me about a midgie blasting machine that collected the dead ones in a sack which he then made (and sold) midgie burgers from at a festival up here..... :)

    The Edible Planted Tank

Maybe i could just keep the scape for emergencies...... aquascaping for the zombie apocalypse.... :) with cherry shrimp to garnish my aquascaping salad.

    The Edible Planted Tank

having just dealt with my first white spot outbreak in 15 years of fish keeping (don't know how i managed to last that long) i've got no desire to catch that or any other aquarium nasties ;) cheers for pointing that out. :)

    The Edible Planted Tank

I think i'd prefer our normal aquascaping type plants, ie ones that thrive in our tanks without having to use immersed growth or riparium set ups..

    The Edible Planted Tank

Hi, Bit of a fun thought process the other day while musing about what we could grow in the garden at the new house.... With EI being great for super charging growth in our tanks i'm wonder if a scape of just edible (preferably nice tasting) aquatic plants would be like. I've read that vallis...

    Monte Carlo Mayhem

:) i'd go even further next time, right back to the substrate. higher where you want slopes.

    Monte Carlo Mayhem

but if your worried about too much plant mass leaving at once, like suggested above. do half one week, then half the week after.

    Monte Carlo Mayhem

just skim read but from my experiences of M.Mc it's a very hard plant to kill. I've been running a tank with mostly this (top link in sig) and at several times let it get way too overgrown. Hacking it back i'd been left with yellow dead roots mm's from the substrate just to have it come back...

Lowest PAR for a HC carpet...

Hi Folks, Been pondering a quick "6 months" 70L scape and think i might give an HC carpet another go. Currently i've only got an old Aquabeam LED lined up for the light which is giving about 35ish PAR at the substrate (although i will bank heavily so it will be more in places). What are your...

    Best Long Term Moss

I love my weeping moss but i've also found it does tend to brown out a bit when it's too dense and will detach over time. I've just been trimming Java moss (by the fist full) from an over grown tank where it was a foot deep and still green. So for sheer long term neglected growth i'd probably...

    Cryptocoryne sp.'Flamingo'

That is just ace. :D Im surprised its gone so well. Did you get heavy melt on first planting?

    Cryptocoryne sp.'Flamingo'

It was the Dennerle ones I tried and failed with. From my experience i'd put this into the "hard to grow" category of plants. Again thou, i'd love to see photos of it all grown out. As it really is quite special.

    Cryptocoryne sp.'Flamingo'

I'd be interested in seeing pic's. I tried it three times in my corner tank (in which i've never had a plant fail) and it did not work on all occasions. They were sourced straight off the plane from Dennerle too (via a local shop i mentioned earlier in this thread). The best i managed was a...

    Moss and worms

    Cryptocoryne sp.'Flamingo'

I've had this on a few occasions from OutsideInside in Haddington (they do mail order) from Dennerle stock. I had very limited success with it thou. I gave up after 6 months of barely keeping it alive. :( Very pretty and unique when it first comes thou. Good luck trying. Best Regards, John

    Staurogyne sp problem

I'd mirror what Tom says about Staurogyne. It played up on me a couple of months back when my CO2 ran out and it lost alot of leaves to yellowing/falling apart. My crypts melted at the same time. Coming back nicely now thou.

    Staurogyne

Well funnily enough, I just replaced and refilled the CO2. BOOM. Headshot. Cheers guys. John

    Staurogyne

Hi, I'm enjoying this plant for the first time and it is now spreading and growing well in my CO2'ed, 10ml a day TPN+ 174L corner tank. But I'm getting leaves going pale in sections then dying off on certain stems occurring in various places around the tank. Everything else is growing fine, I...

Bolbitis heudelotii - how would you use it...

I do but i warn you it is BLOODY HUGE. Got any Lilaeopsis macloviana or anything similar? I'm about to stick a swap post in the trade forum. The big blyxa isnt quite what i'm looking for, for the taller grasses to the side and back.

Bolbitis heudelotii - how would you use it...

Hi, I have ordered in some (way too much) Bolbitis heudelotii but am having issues with placing it on my "tree" in my scape. How would you use it? I am torn between using a small amount, vertical and slightly angled or going full "bush" and tieing loads together into a kind of ball with bits...

tips on growing and trimming bylxya japonica

hi, if you are getting some through the post don't be alarmed by its tattered state as it does not in any way travel well. plant what is left and leave it to recover. i have mine in eco complete under what i would call medium lowish light and it does well. I use EI ferts, it goes a touch...
