    Bulbs for T8 36"

As Clive said, there's no good or bad choice when it comes to bulbs - plants grow the same whatever the colour rendition. Buy the ones that are more appealing to you and your eye. Various colour combos can be seen here: viewtopic.php?f=50&t=555 :)

    Lights on Lights off!

Yeah, I'd reduce the co2 on time too... I switch mine on three hours before lights on and off an hour before lights off.

    Lights on Lights off!

I start out at 6 hours per day, then work my way up over several months to 8 hours for high tech setups and 10 hours for low tech low light no co2 tanks.

    use normal luminaire for aquarium?

For that price, I'd be prepared to sand it back and respray it silver or gun metal metallic, or black even. Remove the cheap dimpled plastic cover and replace with clear perspex. Its a shame they don't make them in 3ft actually, could have used one in an upcoming project...

    use normal luminaire for aquarium?

You've got glass covers, so providing you're careful and maybe use a trip switch or something, I'd go for it personally

EQJ Trading light fitting needing repair. Advice needed.

Yeah, I had a ballast go within two days - a replacement was sent and I haven't had a problem since. They usually send better components if a problem arises too... and ask for compensation - I got 4 free daylight 6500k bulbs and 2 bags of sintered glass media from them :)

    Yup :D

    got my new lights :D

I'm just saying, if they break again at a later date (they probably will), then plumbers pvc glue is great for repairing it. No mention of adding pipes to your brackets mate :P

    got my new lights :D

Yeah, I had great communication with them when my ballast blew. They sent a replacement, plus free daylight bulbs and several packs of sintered glass media as a good will gesture. I was most pleased :D btw, plumbers glue for pvc pipes works great on these brackets ;)

Why not partly cover the light with some card. Works fine for me.

    Lighting issue

I think T8's may struggle with 18" of depth... T5's would be far better imo.

5 Power supplies is still an issue. I have enough extension sockets running around my house, I don't need any more :? If someone can come up with a 240v conversion however...

    DIY LED lighting?

I used to use them a lot when I modded pc's, so I ran them at 12v. I always went back to 120mm fans as they're super silent. I have trouble remembering what I did last week, let alone 20 years ago at school electronics, so I'm looking forward to this build a lot :) Don't like the idea of 5...

    Tube query

The daylight 6500k bulbs I find a little too green by themselves, and the Skywhite 8800k bulbs are a little too white for my liking... so I used 1 of each and get just the right colour rendition :)

    Actinic lighting.

Apparently, the kelvin rating isn't important to plants, so go with whatever suits your eye. Check the pinned topic in this forum for a few pics :) Welcome btw :)

No probs mate :) Slight warning about EQJ though... many people have had problems with the ballast blowing - mine lasted 6 days iirc, but a new one was sent out within a couple of days. I had to rewire it myself, but this turned out to be a good thing as I found many damaged and exposed wires...

Yeah, I'd start out by removing two of the bulbs. Build up the lighting over time when you feel you've got on top of dosing ferts and co2.
