You'd be surprised at how many people break these pipes because the hose fits so tight Nick, so no, no leaks at all. Remember to heat the hose up before trying to attach them - a cup of very hot water is ideal.

Rekord 120 DIY Tank Stand - Progress Thread

Spray paint MDF, you'll be amazed at the effect. Prime well beforehand though or the MDF will take too many coats and it'll cost a fortune. Google homemade spraypainted speaker boxes for examples.. most look better than the chav cars they end up in

http://projectcube2007.blogspot.com/ Of course you can spray paint mdf - the result is the same as if it were metal. What should I upgrade first

Pressurised co2 and a large turnover are things to aim for first. Finding a fertiliser and dosing scheme that suits you is also important. Lighting isn't so important right away, as you want to start things off slowly with lighting anyway.

I want one too! I'm not sure my Tetratec EX700 will be strong enough for it... any ideas, Ed? I don't have enough cash for a better filter just yet, so I'd better go 16mm with 12mm reducers...
  54. J

    Another DIY reactor.

I'm seriously starting to think of one of these for myself now, either DIY or one from Ed. Can someone explain the need for a space to trap undissolved gas? Isn't that a waste of co2?

I'd go with stain over plywood, with a few coats of Danish oil to protect it. Stains come in hundreds of colours too. DIY Stand. What do you think?

Nah, that's OSB (http://www.wickes.co.uk/Sheet-OSB/Orien ... nvt/110024). Great if you want to then cover that up with something else - I built a shed from it once, then clad that in shiplap cladding. Will last a lifetime, but its butt-ugly. Like so: http://img.diytrade.com/cdimg/482241/54 ...
  67. J

DIY Stand. What do you think?

Yeah, cover it up... If you use structural ply wood, you wouldn't need any 45 degree braces as the clad with hold it together. You can be picky about it too, because some sheets have really nice grain that looks great when stained and protected. Yes, I'm a woodwork junkie. Norm Abram is my hero...
  68. J

DIY Stand. What do you think?

One 45 at the back, and one at one side with be fine mate. That'll lock it in place and make it rigid. You could double up on the front and back top rails, then you should be ok without a centre leg. How are you going to clad it? Or aren't you?
  69. J

DIY Stand. What do you think?

That's stud work timer, right? That should be fine mate :) I've built loads of stuff with stud work timber  My local Wickes love me I'm there so much  I'd add some 45 degree cross bracing though, just to beef it up some more. There is no such thing as overkill :D

    float glass V's opti white.

Yeah, I'm crying for more depth both ways  I might even consider a 90x45x45 instead of the 90x60x60. I'll have to play about with cardboard boxes until I find a size I like :D
  71. J

    float glass V's opti white.

See, my 4ft tank is 18" deep, and I feel I need more. Also, the depth front to back is only 12", which you can't do much with on a 4ft tank :-\

    Removing braces from aquarium

The price is for 4 sides opti-white - the base is standard float glass though. 10mm should be fine - ADA tanks are 10mm or less on sizes upto 2ft in height and 6ft in length iirc. I'm still working on buying tanks in bulk from my supplier, so I'm keeping details away from the public eye atm...

    Removing braces from aquarium

I'm saving for an Opti-White too.. shop around though, AE and TGM aren't the only places that sell them. My 36x24x24" 10mm Opti-White tank will cost £240 + delivery, or £425 + delivery complete with custom made cabinet and hood, which is still cheaper than AE and TGM for the tank only!
