    Help needed

For a first scape I think this is quite nice and could fill out with the right plant selection. What you need to ask yourself though Albert, is are YOU happy with it? :)

ADA Seiryu Stone vs Mini Landscape Rock

    100% the same.
  5. J

    frustrated or not?

Time, money, effort, space, the wife... all contributing factors as to why I'm not 'scaping atm, and yes its very frustrating
  6. J

Thoughts on my new scape and bad piccies :)

I can't help but think the whole thing needs to come forward more... could be just a trick of the eye though. Enough space behind for planting bud?

    AGA 2009 Results are out

Well done all  Paul, cheers mate. Yes, I agree about it being slightly too overgrown, but was rushed and had no time to recover from the sharp lines after a trim. I do think they might have missed the point slightly too
  9. J

    No Imagination

Yeah, don't rush it bud... Samc suggested moss earlier, and I'd agree... maybe a gravel foreground, moss in the cracks and stems of your choice for the background... so many options available :D
  10. J

    No Imagination

Pics are fine bud, and yeah, that works for me 8)

Makes hell of a difference though, eh? 8)

Personally, I like option 2, although option 4 could work if you play more with the right stone - don't be afraid to angle is to the right too. Also, push the stones right into the substrate and, like Mark said, brush some sand around the base of the stones to give the impression the stone has...
  13. J

    No Imagination

If you have any fear of damaging the tank, use a small amount of polystyrene under the rock before you add substrate.. this can help hold the rock at the right angles too
  14. J

    No Imagination

Wow, that's some really nice stone  The layout is great too bud, I'd be more than happy with that :) It might help to get yourself a bag of kids playsand so you get an idea of how the stones will look when set in to the sand. It'll also give you chance to play with different shapes to...

A different Iwagumi - now with video

Re: A different Iwagumi! Where in Cornwall George? You know its against the law to remove the Queen's property from our shore lines, right? Anyway, lovely plantless scape

Advice on getting rocks for hardscape?

http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/index.p ... 414_11_239 Mini Landscape rock (Seiryu stone) is the most commonly used Iwagumi rock atm. You can sometimes get stuff like slate from your local B&Q or Homebase, and many garden centres have them in with a few alternative choices.

    using large rocks in nanos

Looking forward to it Sam
  19. J

    using large rocks in nanos

The weight wont be an issue if you spread the load out a little with egg crate or polystyrene. I'd love to do a scape with a massive rock, but its a case of finding the right rock... [edit to add] http://www.pbase.com/plantella/image/21032418 http://www.pbase.com/plantella/image/21032452...

    Who's entering ADA IAPLC 2009?

I thought about it, but I've shown my tank off too much. Peter, its a shame we have to wait a year until each competition to see your work these days.

    180ltr Rescape

Re: Rescape - NEED HELP WITH WOOD POSITIONING Chop the bottom off some and bury it deep... could work... I'd be happy with it :D
  25. J

    180ltr Rescape

Re: Rescape - NEED HELP WITH WOOD POSITIONING I agree with Ed and Mark here Clark. How deep are you doing with substrate though? If you go to the top of the stones and really hide the cross over, it could look nice. You could always cut the wood too...

    Bones

I LOVE the idea! Its proper outside the box thinking, sometime I'm also working on :D I'd stay clear of fake skulls like Oli used however, as it does nothing but ad a cheesy vibe like his Nature Soil packaging  Good luck Dan, I'm keeping watch on this :)

saintly's first ever iwagumi (no laughing)

If you had a 90x35x45 what would you do...

Nice going, Steve :) 2nd one gets my vote mate!
  33. J

If you had a 90x35x45 what would you do...

I think you should send me the stones, then use something else. They clearly aren't suitable for that tank  Have you used a barrier between the AS and sand, Steve? I'd consider a mound like Mark has suggested. Those rocks are ace mate :)
  34. J

    What ADA rock is this?

Manten stone perhaps, although its usually darker...
  35. J

    large amount of slate

Polystyrene under the slate, then put your substrate in after. http://www.pbase.com/plantella/malawi_tank http://www.pbase.com/plantella/4mtank :)
  36. J

Where can I get rocks like this?

    Aqua Essentials stock it too.

Just cut the stuff :D Look at the Tree Scape for a perfect example :) Awesome Dave!

Best 'Scape Everâ„¢ Outstanding work, Peter, congrats mate :)
  39. J

What's your most favourite aquascape of all time?

Like Tom, I'm a huge fan of 'Summer Dance' by Justin Law, but it was Amano's Iwagumi work that got me interested.

    Green fishing line

Trying to get java ferns or moss attached to wood with cotton when you have yoyo loaches in the tank is proving to be quite difficult  Little sod also ate all the pellia  Any prices yet John?

    Aquiring a 4ft tank - Need ideas!

Looks great, love the photoshopping idea, might have to 'borrow' that :D Have a think about using parvula and glosso for most of the ground cover, as parvula is much shorter. Use the acicularis around the stones and toward the back.

    AE's Redmoor Wood - "Long"

I've some of the medium Redmoor wood, and I've seen pics of the small and large, but I haven't seen any of the 'long' selection. I've pestered Richard enough, so I was wondering if anyone has pics of their own to share. Buying wood online can be a real lottery, and I'm after something good...
  54. J

    Dan's 80cm ADA/PFK shoot

So... the ukaps logo. Is that suspended by cotton from the top? Its gonna look grand when the moss covers all the letters

    Mountainscape

hahaha, tell me about it :D I'm surrounded by - arguably - some of the most beautiful rocks in the world, but I still haven't found the perfect collection for a great layout... Or have I? :shifty:

    Mountainscape
