Just to correct myself about the 'balance' - its more about the balance of light and co2. Ferts make no difference. I've double dosed EI from day 1 and not had issues. The problems arise when nutrients are simply too low.

Well for me, EI has always been about good light/co2/fert balance, regular maintenance, and great plant health. I don't recall anyone saying EI was flawless.

Trace begins with a T, as does Tuesday and Thursday. NPK on other days, weekend off 8)

I'd skip the costs and go with dry powders from day 1.

Paul, you've confused me. Your original enquiry was about over dosing EI, which is not a problem at all. There's no way you should be dosing 25ml of EasyCarbo daily. 2-4ml daily per 50 litres is more than enough ime for a tank more heavily planted than your own. You wont see any instant...

You're up'ing your dosing aren't you? You wont see instant results - nothing good ever happens quickly in a planted tank ;)

I think HC would have more chance of surviving if separated more when planting. Any emersed leaves will wilt and change colour ime, but new growth should be ok. Has it been trimmed at all? I gotta be honest, I haven't had a huge amount of luck with HC as it seems overly fussy. My last carpet...

I used Garden Directs Trace which is higher in copper than what most people use, and I follow Clive EI dosing guide. This is in a shrimp only tank where the colony is thriving. Its a cherry colony though, which are much hardier than most other shrimp.

One month of dosing with Garden Direct's Trace in my shrimp tank, no deaths and every female is carrying eggs.

Its early days, but I'm dosing GD trace and npk mix in my shrimp-only tank. Almost one week in and no deaths. I will try to remember to post updates over the next few weeks...
