The Dimholt Road (rank 260 IAPLC 2014)

The inspiration for this scape, as you might have guessed from the title, came from the Lord of the Rings. For the general plan I used yet another of my derbyshire photos. I'm very pleased with my iaplc placement this year, although its lower than last year's i feel this scape is more my usual...

    'Heteropoda's Throne' IAPLC #463

Thank you guys I agree, nano tanks don't seem to fair well at this contest. I did think about entering the 60 litre but then I would have no excuse for not ranking well  Thank you Notator. I do usualy limit the numbers of species I use in small tanks, as i find things can look a bit...

Many of you will have already seen this scape, but this was the one i decided to enter in the IAPLC, upholding my tradition of using a 20 litre tank for my contest piece. Cheers, James

    Mark Evans IAPLC rank 137

Irrespective of any contest result, this aquascape absolutely outstanding Mark. Its not just the balance and natural appearance of the layout, but the execution and finishing that make this scape. It is very rare indeed to see a scape where every single leaf could not be better placed. :clap...

    36cm - Sheltering (IAPLC 2011)

Thanks guys :D That's true Paulo, large tanks do seem to fair better. Although i'm not sure that my style of scaping is to their tastes irrespective of tank size. :D Cheers, James

    60cm - Scree Evolved (IAPLC 2011 entry)

I am quite suprised at this placement, I really thought this would be the year you got top 100. Although the final shot was unreleased, the hardscape had recieved alot of publicity, I wonder if this resulted in a points deduction. Personally I rate both versions of this aquascape very highly...

"Bones of the Earth", 1800 litres, by Graeme Edwards

Not only does this scape have instant visual appeal to all who see it, but it is also a master piece in 3D visualization and composition. As I have said before I consider this scape to be the best I've seen  Cheers, James

Fantastic shots there George, you've really done the scapes justice. Did you use the new photographic equipment that you had in the van for these? Cheers James

    A Great British Biotope

Wow, this has got to be my faxorite biotope aquarium. The extreme research you did with the freshwater diving is well reflected in the authenticity of the scape. As others have said it takes me right back to my childhood when i used to catch sticklebacks in local streams and ponds, a real...

120cm - The Crypt Eternal - final tank shot

Re: 120cm - The Crypt Eternal Nice Scape George, using only Crypts creates a very interesting effect. What a shame you had to break it down prematurely. Congratulations on your contest placement. Cheers James

    45cm golden hill

Hi Ivanmx Congratulations on your contest placement, That's a nice Iwagumi, the subtle colours of your chosen fish compliment a very taseful scape. Also, the tank looks great in situe against a white wall with no clutter around it. Regards James

    Fangorn Forest (21 litre)

Cheers Guys Each scape is a lesson through it's mistakes and through it's happy accidents. Often for me some aspect of the scape will turn out very different from that which I expected, and give me ideas I would not have otherwise had. I am a fan of Riccia, I feel it has possibilities yet...

    Fangorn Forest (21 litre)

Thanks Guys I put the scape together, i think, 10th June, and was brolen down about a week ago, when i decided that the grape vine root was the cause of the fish deaths This experiment taught me much, the main findings are as follows: # It's best to use tried and tested hardscape materials...

    Fangorn Forest (21 litre)

Hello fellow aquascapers Before embarking on my next serious attempt, I thought it would be a good idea to set up a play tank, in which I could experiment with some new plants, hardscape materials. equipment and techniques. This is the result. Tank volume : 21 liters Tank size : 36 x 22 x...

My first foray into the world of planted aquaria.

Thats excellent for a first atempt, your plants look healthy and the overall layout is good. The only thing i would change is the placement of the moss balls. Also don't forget to prune your Riccia regularly to promote dense growth. Cheers James

    lil' 'ol Dutch-style Scape

What a gorgeous tank, you obviously have a very good eye for colour, also the form of the scape is very definite considering there is no hardscape. I'm particulary impressed as this is a low tech tank, I couldn't grow plants at less than 10 WPG in a tank that size. Cheers James

Autumn Sunrise (9th place in Nano category AAC 2009)

Thank you all very much for your kind comments. SteveUK - the lighting is DIY, however I am a workshop technician with access to a fair bit of manufacturing equipment. Mark - although the tank looked fairly good after only a couple of weeks, one of the main ideas behind this scape was...

Autumn Sunrise (9th place in Nano category AAC 2009)

Thanks for your comments, they are much appreciated. To answer your question about the Riccia, it is tied directly on to the metamorphic rocks with fishing line, however it was necessary to chisel small grooves in the rocks to hook the fishing line around, so that none of it was running over the...

Autumn Sunrise (9th place in Nano category AAC 2009)

Hello fellow aquascapers This is my contest scape, it is the first time i have entered a contest, so I am very pleased to have placed 9th in category. The idea behind this scape was maintainability, so i chose plants that could be easily pruned and would recover quickly thereafter. My...
