There are some stem plants that have very small round leaves when emmersed, but grow larger eliptical leaves when in water, for example Rotala Rotundifolia.

I've grown Glosso very well with eco complete, but HC seemed to have a little trouble rooting in it.
I think perhaps eco complete is little too coarse and sharp for the delicate roots of HC.
To remedy this, in my last tank, i covered the eco complete with a 1/2cm layer of red sea flora base...
HC cuba responds very well to pruning, so do not be afraid to cut it right back occasionaly.
When my HC reaches about 1.5cm thick I prune it low enough to see the substrate in places, this allows new runners to root in the substrate, ensuring it remains anchored down.

Garuf- I don't think anyone is saying lower light will improve growth, just that we cannot tell what colour light a plant needs by the colour of it's leaves.

I've always thought that red plants won't absorb red light, as they appear red to our eye they must be reflecting red light. It therefore stands to reason that they will most absorb the colour opposite to red on a standard colour wheel.
If the desired colour of R.Rotundifolia is a pinkish red...
