    over priced fish...

Fish prices change with the seasons...it must be Otto season at the moment cos I've seen em at 6 for a tenner. In the summer they can go upto a fiver each.

Wanted; alternative for Congo tetra (Phenacogrammus interruptus)

I had congos a few years ago, and they were probably the most aggressive fish I have kept. They reminded me of mini piranhas...their teeth were visible to the naked eye! They also finished of a team of Amanos. I can't think of any really alternative...maybe dwarf neon rainbows?
  3. Ian Holdich

    my piranha

Right, I think we have made our points of concern to Jason, can we cut him a little slack now. He has posted a vid showing there is not a lot of flow in one of the corners of the tank. We all learn from these kinds of processes.

There you are, enjoying your DSLR.....

Again, that's a nice pic! What I meant was, that you'll sometimes see white spot on the other fish you bought. Also, rummys tend to have a greenish spot on their heads where that spot is.

There you are, enjoying your DSLR.....

It normally appears on finagle first. Not normally on the head. What do the others look like? And yes it's a good shot mate!

    What's wrong with this Gourami?

Looks like he's ready for a partner, if he hasn't already got one... This is a natural coloration coming through.

    Flame Gourami.

Have a look at the natural coloured honey gourami, these are lovely little dwarf gouramis they do better in groups as well. They colour up nice as well. They will sometimes be quite dull in lfs's but when settled they look great.

    Barbs

I have noticed over the last year or so that this is quite hard to come by! My suggestion would be some five banded barbs (if you can find em), here's mine, they get to about 5cm's

I had a group of these when I started with an open top and lost them all.

    Elusive Corydoras

I always found the albino ones to be the most active...i have my own theory on this, cos they're albino, albinos normally are nearly blind (all albino species), this makes them more active and sociable. Pass me that honorary degree in animal sciences please!
  20. Ian Holdich

    Elusive Corydoras

i'd say up the schools as they are shoalers by nature.
  21. Ian Holdich

    Harlequins playing dead

i have seen Tetras do this when they are caught in the shops...you always think there's a floater in there, but then they bring themselves back. I'm sure it's a survival technique. I have never seen it in a settled tank though.

How and what to feed celestial pearl danios

i personally wouldn't worry to much if they are nibbling as they are such a small fish...they don't need a lot of feeding.
  23. Ian Holdich

    bromo blue + fish

agree with Clive...i always have carbon in my filters, love the stuff. Again, i agree regarding the old leeching back into the water myth, after reading an article regarding this, apparently there needs to be a massive Ph swing in the tank for this to happen. It was a massive swing as well.

cheers for that Al, interesting little things though.
  25. Ian Holdich

    Panda glowlight Tetra?

i'm not sure i believe that statement, as they do look like morphs, but you never know. Thank for finding those though. They do look good in there, they blend in well with the other tetras.

    MALE APISTO SEEMS POORLY

they do better than other dwarf cichlid species in harder water, but they don't do great. I think George is right...I was chatting to the guy i got mine off and they will do upto about 12-14Gh, but will only last a couple of months in anything higher.
  32. Ian Holdich

    Celestial pearl danio

i also had a school of these in my last scape, they were brilliant little characters. These were a fiver each, my neighbour is now a proud owner of them. Very nice fish. cpd01 by Ian Holdich, on Flickr

  35. Ian Holdich

Blue Dwarf Gourami And Red Cherries?

i say that you may not have a colony in a week or 2. They will pick off most shrimp, especially if they are acting up with them already.
  36. Ian Holdich

    sparkling\croaking gourami

Thats ace! do you keep shrimp with these?
  37. Ian Holdich
