What TDS should I aim for?

Actually, I did once have a nerite in ro water, this was c02 enriched. You can see the c02 whiz zing past it. He looks ok. He did last as well, until he made an escape from an open top tank.

What TDS should I aim for?

I didn't have any snails in the tank, so can't comment on that. I'm sure it would have a slight impact on their shells though. I had shrimp in the tank and they were fine.

What TDS should I aim for?

Presumably the calcium carbonate in the ferts and also the rocks in the tank. Seryu stone adds to tds. I did dose the ferts quite heavily in the tanks I used with pure ro. Have a look through Amanos stuff, he also uses pure ro in his tanks. In his book 'the complete works', it gives you a...

What TDS should I aim for?

My kh was a steady 5-6 My tds was around 100 I was keeping quite sensitive chocolate gouramis at the time.

What TDS should I aim for?

Ok lol! Your calcium and mg is in your trace elements. Have a look at viktor Lantos's scapes, he does the same. Quite a lot of us do...

What TDS should I aim for?

I used neat ro, and then used tropica ferts, they did a great job of re mineralising. If you're using EI, then in essence you're remineralising twice.

    Is Lincolnshire more challenging?

If you're ever coming over to Lincoln, you might want to check out 'the aquarium', he keeps mini landscape and redmoor in stock in his shop. He also stocks purigen, tropica ferts, and easycarbo and the like.

    Is Lincolnshire more challenging?

Hi Harry, I myself live in Lincoln, where the water comes out of the tap like pure limestone. I have used both tap water and ro, and can honestly say things are easier in ro water. However, it doesn't stop you from growing plant in tap water. Some of my observations are that in our tap water...

Hard Water or RO, which is better?

The ro unit lowers the pressure as it hits the unit due to the membrane, the pump just ups the pressure, before it hits the membrane. It can't up the pressure coming out of the tap.

Hard Water or RO, which is better?

These are the pumps I was talking about D&D RO Booster Pump | Swell UK There are a couple of members who use them, and it can save a lot of water and time, if your on a meter. It'll still up the bar further.

Hard Water or RO, which is better?

I've used both, I have seen much different in the way of plant growth or health. I do notice that in to water, plants pearl quicker. I'll be reverting back to hard water in my next scape as the water meter really doesn't like ro water...

    Seachem purigen

No, just a soak in dechlor is fine. It does have to be something that doesn't contain any slime coat though.
  13. Ian Holdich

    Seachem purigen

I normally keep mine between 6-7 hours, and it goes to 8 hours and stays at that. With the c02 coming on 2 hours before and off 1 hour before lights out.

    Seachem purigen

I do about 30% everyday for a couple of weeks, or until the plants settle down. I also dose everyday as well. You really can't go wrong if you keep up with good maintainence.

    Seachem purigen

I just wouldn't use it in a planted tank, there really isn't any need. Let the plants do the work.
  16. Ian Holdich

    Seachem purigen

I'd use it straight away, it has no direct effect on ammonia, it just has a high affinity to orgaic waste. I personally wouldn't really bother with the Stability either.

    Serpentine Rock - Asbestos?

Underwater it probably wouldn't be a problem. I think you'd struggle to find studies into this tbh. I spent sometime working at a hospice, were one of our consultants was a mesathelioma expert. I attended many of his teaching sessions on how asbestos actually causes malignant tumours...

    Serpentine Rock - Asbestos?

I would steer clear of these tbh, I have first hand experience working with a couple of miners that have mined these kinds of rocks. They really suffer painful deaths. They contain they fall into Chrysotile, the most common form of asbetos. Just for the use in an aquarium, I wouldn't touch them...

    Water softeners and aquariums..?

I do still buy a couple of barrels as a back up and I am on a meter. But, when I use my unit, I just hook it up to my outside tap, fill a couple of barrels (25ltr) in a few hours now. Then I'm set for the week. I don't re mineralise it and don't heat it before I change it. I will bring a barrel...

    Water softeners and aquariums..?

Why not just hook up the ro unit outside and keep it in a 100ltr water butt?

    Water softeners and aquariums..?

This is the one I bought, but got it off eBay for £50. The link on eBay is gone now. It will pay for itself in a few months though. RO System Booster Pump - Surrey Pet Supplies I'm also in Iain's predicament, I have really hard water, tds 450ish, water in Lincoln runs off of limestone, really...

    Water softeners and aquariums..?

Agree with the pump, was talking to ed and tony and they both use pumps. I bought one and it's loads better with minimal wastage. As for water softners, they don't work due to the high sodium levels they use (from what I understand)

Nobody likes a smart .... (carbon filtration for home use)

Carbon will increase tds from a filter like a brita etc etc, as they don't contain a micron filter, and you're actually adding a bit of carbon to the water. The carbon will remove chlorine and metals like copper, mercury, lead etc etc. the guys from eBay is correct I'm affraid. The best way of...

    Snow?

Not as in the early 90's rapper... Just wondering with all the snow around at present, how many/if any have used it as aquarium water. I'm currently using pure RO cut with a small amount of tap water when doing water changes. It's is working fine for me at present. The RO I get is normally...

    How to... Big water changes?

It's also great for bba mike, if you don't let it 'gas off'. Best to do water changes with the lights off.

    Prime

thanks for that Darrel, i'm from lincoln and anglian water do OD the water with chlorine rather than chloramine (i think). I'm using it on my main tank and shrimp tank as there is some sensitive shrimp in the 15l tank. thanks for you time again.

    Prime

just a querry really...Seachem Prime, as many of you know it claims to detoxify nitrates. I'm using it as a main dechlor for my main tank, with water changes 2 x a week (20%). Is using it gonna be detrimental when dosing NO3?? sorry if it's been asked before. Ian
