The older ones needed a small bit of air tubing cutting and placing at the end of the power head. They seem to have corrected it on the new power heads.
I agree with Mick, I used a bioflow in a trigon I had a few years back. I hasten to say, but it was a great bit of kit. I did upgrade to pump though, as I found 600lph wasn't enough in a trigon 190.
They're a pain to clean though, as you have to drag them out of the water.
I'm really surprised the ehiem isn't working well. It sounds to me like its faulty...ehiem have really good customer service and will replace this, I'm sure. I'd give that a try before you spend more money.
Not really, I clean my 'pipes' out every month (as the actress said to the bishop). I use one of these to do so.
JBL Cleany Pipe & Hose Cleaner @ BARGAIN PRICE!!! | eBay
I use this exact filter, and I felt the exact same way when I primed it and started it. It now 6 months old and quiet as a mouse being tickled.
Give it time for the motor to bed itself in, this took about 3-4 days on mine.
Hi there nduli, the tank volume was 125ltr, you'd be pushing it at 200ltr. I actually sold the filter, as I got a cheaper ehiem. Jbl are great filters though. I'd be tempted to buy a 1501 if I was you, as they have flow controls also.
Regarding the carbon thing, when they say leeching back into the water column, isn't this only at extreme ph swings? Thos we don't really see in an aquarium?
Give it a gentle shake until you have no air in it. Just check the pipes arnt resting on the cabinet, this can produce an audible hum also.
Sometimes they need a few days to settle before they become almost silent.
The flow drops considerably on the aps filter as well. There's a thread on the net somewhere with people testing the actual flow rates of these and the 2000 was dropping to 1000/900 lph. The build quality is better on the jbl as well. I'd go jbl every time, that's if you don't want an eheim.
Seachem purigen all the way for me! It really does polish your water to an unparalleled level. It also keeps your tds in check. I also use seachem matrix for biological filtration.
I run a 2073, and it's a brill filter, just to echo what Alastair has said, the leaking issue was a couple of years ago. Apparently this has been corrected now. Not a great deal of drop in flow either. It will be perfect for a tank that size as well.
the best thing i have ever seen used of the Juwel outlet is a Hydor deflector. Nice even distribution.

FAO Alister here's how loud the filter is...
This is filmed with a Iphone with the audio setting at it's highest.

The flow rate hasn't dropped a bit since i got it. It's also as quiet as a mouse. In the first vid i hadn't cleaned the spray bar.
in fact it appears to have improved! lol J/K
I bought this filter and have been running it on my 80cm for just over 4 months now and it has been cleaned twice now. I just wanted to share the flow rate of it (the filter hasn't been cleaned for a month), this is it at water change today. I bought the filter to replace the Hydor prime 30...
It works along side the same process as carbon sWozzAres and carbon doesn't really care how quick the water travels trough it. So, Purigen would be the same. The same question always appears about filter media and a bacs and n bacs.
Its a beast of a little filter. It's only been running 2 weeks, so I expect it to loose some flow. But I have read around and people are saying that they tend to keep there flow rate. Well worth the money!
I have read about others having to swap from the ribbed tubing, to normal tubing, as a proper seal is hard to create. Also i have seen atomisers on the intake, but i'm sure they work better on the outlet.
hope this helps.
the problem with carbon is that it's adsorption doesn't last to long. It's life span shortened in hard water (or so i have read). It does render well as a biological filtration though. I use purigen personally and love the stuff, it remains my chemical weapon of choice.
As above carbon is...
