    Best aquascaping sand? Opinions please.

It's inert, I have it I'm my nano, it doesn't raise tds. I haven't tested the kh, but I'm positive it doesn't touch that either.

    Best aquascaping sand? Opinions please.

Unipac sands are great IMO. I have used a few now and they are as good as the Ada sands with a fraction of the price. I'm using tana sand at the moment. It's in my journal.

Natural Aquarium Sand Substrate: Any Recommendations?

Have a look at the unipac sand ranges. They do some brilliant sands, some close to the Ada sand IMO. A little more expensive than play sands though, but it's worth it.

    Topping up Aqua soil....

sometimes yes and sometimes no...the plants will utilise the ammonia, but the water changes are a must. I have never seen the massive spike they talk of.

    Topping up Aqua soil....

they do, but i have always stocked straight away with shrimp, cherries and CRS, and never had a problem. Keep up with water changes and plant heavily and there shouldn't be a problem.

    TMC nutrasoil

I see no one disagreeing in that thread... Soils based substrates mainly come from the same places in japan. I'm not comparing them to eco complete etc etc as these aren't soils. The TMC, Columbo, Oli Knott, Elos etc etc manly all come from the same place in Japan, some say from the same...

    TMC nutrasoil

its the same as every other soil on the market. Most of them come from the same place, so it doesn't really matter which one you use.

colombo flora base vs aquasoil pondering.... again.....

I have just bought Florabase again, i love the stuff. As for nutrient content, i'm sure it'll contain the same as the Ada stuff...as most of it is from the same paddy field.

    ADA Aquasoil vs Colombo Florabase

they're are very similar, they both need to be saturated by water. They are both light substrates. IMO there's not much in them in the way of planting. Most planted substrates tend to be light. as for being from the same factory, who knows, i know there are a few 'soil based' substrates that...

    UP Aqua - Aqua Soil

I think you may find this IS the same product as every other soil on the market bar the ADA soil. It normally just gets re bagged and sold as something different.

    stirring substrate

is there any chemical explanation to this? I have deffinatly read somewhere that the gasses let off are not near as dangerous to fish than first thought.

    stirring substrate

So, the gases don't diseminate into the water, I have also read somewhere that the gases aren't as toxic as once thought. I just can't find this statement and find where it came from.

    stirring substrate

hey guys i'm looking for some evidence regarding the stirring of substrates, and why we really don't need to do it. Or the reasons that the gasses will just gas off, and 'not be toxic' to the fish... anyone got anything?
