Yes you can remove the plastic cover, no it wont be waterproof ;) A reflector would be a good idea, if you can find one :thumbup:

Here's my setup: 2x 12w Cree White led bulbs 36cm tank ;) IMG_0119 by Harry.R, on Flickr The bulbs in the photo have been replaced but you get the idea, £9.99 for the fitting, £15 for two bulbs. £25 is alot more reasonable than £200 :D

Best get them from your LFS, DIY shops tend to only sell bulbs out of the 6000-6500k range and are normally not t5HO which is what you need :)

Ive just got two 12w LED's (4*3w each) for my nano, look on my journal to see the difference from my old 3w ones. Defiantly go for led's, the use less power and give a lovely shimmer effect. Do not, do not, do not get those smd bulbs, the ones with lots of led's on the bulb, get the bulbs that...

There are many bad reviews of arcardia arc pods due to the horrible pinkish hue they have :( I would suggest getting a t5 HO luminaire possibly a 2x24w if you are going for carpeting plants :) Don't worry about the cost or height as they are pretty slim, here's a link to a cheap one...
