I do not agree it's being the same or superior than the Tropica. But I can agree that the Solufeed would be lot cheaper to get the job done, but may not perform to the same level as Tropica.

I believe your algae issues are related to low...
what kind of Light Fixture is it? does it allow you to adjust the R, G, B spectrum ?
there is no straight answer to this, it will depend on several other factors.
if you are after high PAR, simply add a bulb that is high in Blue Spectrum. but plant wont grow that well unless you meet the Red Spectrum as well, red spectrum will usually have a lower PAR compared to Blue. meeting the plant needed spectrum is more important than meeting the high PAR
