    Shrimp and Water Changes

I try to do roughly 10% weekly when I can remember (or be bothered). Sometimes I'll miss 2 or 3 changes. I would guess on average it would be every 2 weeks :) I use 3 parts rain to 1 part tap.

collecting rain water for shrimp and fish - what containers do you use?

I just use the standard green water butt jobbys from Wilko for collecting water for my shrimp tanks. Not had any problems. I only use jerry cans for mixing. I fill each with 15 litres rain water and 5 litres of tap. Then a bit of dechlor. Then I use it bucket by bucket to change my shrimp...

    Anubis Nana & Shrimps Myth?

Lol. I put freshly propogated anubias in my shrimp tanks to grow on for my next scapes (been o long since I've scaped so you can guess how many anubias are collecting in tanks now :) One of them at the mo has about 20 freshly cut rhizomes in it. Never seen a problem.

CRS and Ei Dosing (copper) ?

Even EI is moderation when we are talking about the levels added. Pretty similar to the 'keep nitrates under 30' that used to be bandied about. It is 'excess dosing' but not at a scale where we are anywhere near polluting

    Oats?

Get an electric coffee/spice grinder. good quality one for £20 or so. Blitzes to powder very quickly. you'll end up using it for everything. lol. turning rice into rice flour, turning fish food into fry powder etc. I use this one: Buy James Martin ZX809X Spice and Coffee Grinder - Silver...

CRS and Ei Dosing (copper) ?

This is correct. The % of the actual product is .23 but ppms is worked out after you mix it. If you mixed it with a tenth of the water it would end up as .02 etc. I have dosed much heavier than EI x 1 in shrimp tanks with no problems. The statement above that Ceg replies to is a symptom of...

Hot tap water, deadly to shrimp?

I think its due to the high percentage of high volume water changers in the planted hobby though. Doing 10-20% I would just use the cold tap which can benefit the spwaning activities of some of my fish. If doing more or 60-70% then that is a different matter. AC

    Graffiti-ing Nerite?

Just for your interest get a dry wipe or permanent marker and put a dot where the 'limpet' is. come back in an hour and you will see the 'limpets' have moved. they are actually snails. Nothing to worry about. Apparently they are a snail that only lives in very good freshwater conditions...

    Graffiti-ing Nerite?

Sounds a lot like limpet snails which appear from nowhere in my tank every now and again for a week or two before disappearing as quickly as they appeared!! http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl= ... n%26sa%3DG AC

    Shrimp horror stories

I was always told shrimp can hide away a lot and get a bit timid!!! There I was last week repositioning the diffuser when one crawled onto my hand (while my hand was moving) 2 seconds later when I wanted to remove my hand there 3 of them 'cleaning me'. They only jumped off when my hand got...

Hot tap water, deadly to shrimp?

Check the inside of your taps first. I have a 1 year old combi boiler and wondered why the hot tap (they were both in situ when I moved here) spat out some yellow/orange in the first ½second of turning it on. Turned out it was cheap chrome covered steel and not stainless and therefore...

    African Dwarf Frog

I posted on another post possibly from yourself that I have seen a "ladder" for frogs. It was made of resin pieces siliconed to the side of the tank which let the frog swim from ledge to ledge. I have read that shallower tanks are necessary for ADF due to them getting tired when swimming to...

    Assasin Snails

Another thing I noticed when I was at MA Whisby was the Assasin Snail. I read the blurb on its label which said that it would eat other snails including MTS. Was a lightly worded warning for MTS owners I guess. Does anyone have them in their tank? What are your findings on this claim? I...

    Planaria attacking shrimp!!!

More to the point, If you bought 3 shrimp and they were dead when you opened the bag. why did you put them in the tank? And if they are CRS why did you not go for a refund? As for planaria I have no idea. There are many different inhabitants in our aquariums that we never notice including...

    trumpet snails

They do multiply like mad. In 1 month you will quite literally have loads of them but not to worry: 1 - Collect the big ones and sell them on ebay 2 - The tiny ones will come up wth the poop when you water change. 3 - They do a damned good job If you have loaches though they can be a...
