Great job! I think I'll be using more open sand substrate for my next discus scape.
What's your temperature and water change routine?
Looking forward to following along!
Hi,
I collaborate with Evolution Aqua to develop and promote The Aquascape brand. It's not "my" brand, but I have had a significant input into the range (tanks, cabinets, fertiliser and glassware).
Hi Dean,
The smaller version of this is the AS300 Cube (30cm cube). Lovely little tank!
CO2 is 2 BPS using an ISTA bubble counter and Up Aqua (original) diffuser on the outlet. I'm using a high-end reg from CO2 Art and 2Kg FE. Used a 4dKH drop checker to dial in the CO2 at around 30ppm...
Hi all,
So I wasn't happy with the wood and decided to remove it!
I can always add it later. I did think of DSM'ing (yoghurt/blender) the wood with some mosses for later.
Check out that 50cm front to rear depth!
Plants are Dennerle In-Vitro M. "Monte Carlo" and E. pusilla.
I've added 20 or...
Hi Paul, I'm using a Fluval G6 with clear hose and glass inlet and lily pipe. Also with inline CO2. Usual media including carbon. I've reduced flow to half to stop it from lifting the soil until the plants are bedded in.
Cheers,
George
Here's the hardscape concept. It's not finalised but it's pretty much there. The great thing about the AS600 is the 50cm front to rear depth, so plenty of room to play... :)
The rocks are locally collected from a recent break in Cornwall and the wood is mostly Manzanita from Tom Barr...
Thanks guys. Just awaiting on a new stainless steel lighting arm to hang my Kessil. I have some cool hardscape to use and am going for something a bit different in this one.
I'll keep you posted. :)
Hi all,
This is my first ever vlog! I hope you like it.
It's a different style to my usual videos. The production level is lower (recorded on iPad with minimal editing) but it's a more relaxed style and insight into my life as an aquascaper.
Please give me ideas for future vlogs and I'll...
I'm doing a 50% water change every 10 days or so, sometime every 2 weeks. Depends how busy I am. :)
I dose 25ml Tropica Specialised per day when I'm home. Sometimes it will go a few days without ferts with no apparent problem.
I have never tested the water in any of my tanks for over 10 years...
It seems fine so far and the stems have grown to the surface a couple of times now. I can always just fiddle with the outlets to obtain different flow patterns if needed. :)
Thanks, nicpapa.
I won't be adding the fish you suggest as I'm running it sub-tropical. Dutch is too much hard work and not my personal taste. :)
Interesting observation on the rock work. Thank you for your input. :)
The lights I had were great but I've no experience of their new models.
2 X 360 Kessil is overkill. 1 is plenty. Also consider 2x 160 models instead.
Thanks. :)
Wow! Thanks for the feedback and questions. I'll try to answer you all as best I can... :)
Just trimming. They're densely packed so not enough room to re-plant. :)
Brand new tank but I believe there's a slight discrepancy in the cabinet build (my own fault) so there's some stress on the glass...
Day 21 from planting.
No livestock yet. Probably 100 Amano shrimp to start with, then some small cool temp (tank is unheated) small shoaling fish. Suggestions welcome!
Hi guys,
Here's a shot right after planting. It's 3 days old now.
Mostly low maintenance plants - Trident fern, Bolibitis, small to medium crypts, Anubias petite. Then some fast growing weeds in the background - Ludwigia palustris and Rotala green. All plants from Tropica.
I recently added...
Hi guys,
I've finished the hardscape now. Here's a quick video on how I did it.
The lights are off most of the time. I still deciding on a planting plan. Hopefully a good mix of low-maintenance but high impact!
Cheers,
George
Hi Andy
The ADA 120P is proud home to my discus. I'm careful about publishing too much because 1) Potential IAPLC and 2) PFK feature. When I get time I'll post some close-ups from it. I'm really pleased with it - lovely set-up :)
But the EA1200 is another level - and the 'scape will be too...
Oh yes, Jeff. :)
I have a big container in the garden full of wood that's been on soak for 6 months. And around 200Kg of various rock - Seiryu and Ohko.
I think you can find prices for the standard version of the eaReef 1200s online. Not sure how it compares with ADA. This is a one-off build, but watch this space for future developments... ;)
As far as other kit goes -
Substrate - JBL ProSoil Brown (almost black) over JBL Volcano Mineral (crushed lava rock) for building height.
Filtration - 2 x JBL 1501e
CO2 - 2Kg FE with Green Leaf Aquarium high-end reg, inline diffuser on filter outlet
Ferts - Tropica Specialised daily (around...
That's the plan mate. I realise I've been neglecting my journals over the last couple of years, but it's something I'm hoping to change - spare time permitting. I honestly wish we had 36 hour days then I may be able to cope! :)
Hi Paulo
I agree.
These days I go with 'instinct' on how much to dose. If the plants look weak then I add more ferts. Adding too much isn't a problem, usually.
In my experience it's better to focus more on CO2, circulation and maintenance. These will likely prevent more algae then trying to...
Hi Paulo
Thank you.
In general I dose 5-10ml per day Tropica Specialised per 100 litres of aquarium water in a CO2 injected tank. I do this from Day One and if I see any problems I will adjust the dosing. Sometimes I need to dose more once the planting is mature and the substrate may become...
Thanks, Andy. I like the Colombo range because it's competitively priced and there's everything you need - NPK ferts, liquid CO2, soil, root tabs. Tropica are also excellent and I continue to use their products too. I think it's great to have more options.
Thanks. Yes. And 100mm lens for...
Hi all
I set this up about 7 weeks ago. To be honest wasn't sure about the lighting - it measured 5 umol at the substrate! However, all the plants are growing and I'm even getting red R. rotundifolia!
Using Colombo range (soil, ferts, liquid CO2), non-CO2 gas injection. Aquafleur plants.
Hi John
Thank you.
With regards your set-up you can quite easily have a high impact aquascape but remain low maintenance. The key is using just enough light to support plant growth. You can still grow nice plants, especially if you use decent substrate, ferts, CO2 and circulation. Get these...
I bought a new lens yesterday - Canon 50mm f1.8 STM. It replaces the classic nifty fifty and has better optics, and build quality.
Here's a couple of samples.

Thanks, Su. :)
In a 50 gal. I would definitely recommend a pressurised system and fire extinguishers are good value for money. I like inline diffusers for tanks over 20 gal. with a powerful external filter to obtain good circulation.
Thanks guys. Glad you like the video. As I get more experienced I will produce better videos with close-ups, panning etc. I'll get some close-up pics soon too.
Cheers
George aka The Aquascaper! :)
Hi all,
I recently set up this little tank. Quite an impressive all-in-one system suitable for beginners.
I'll update videos every week and post photos as and when.
Hi all,
At last I managed to get some time to take some photos of my home tank. I'm really happy with the progress so far. It's been trouble-free with no algae and I only spend about 1hr per week on this.
I'm using hard tap water which bugs me a bit with the scale build-up on the aquarium...
Hi all
Long story short....
Neglected this tank for about 4 weeks and moved into a new flat to be nearer my new job.
Thanks to Dan Crawford for helping me move. :)
I'm awaiting fibre optic broadband so will be a lot more active on UKAPS soon!! :
Cheers
George
Hi all,
Apologies for the lack of updates.
These were taken at the 18 day point I think. No algae, nice growth. CO2 levels are high because there's still no livestock, and won't be until I move next month. :)
Thanks guys. :)
I apologise now that I might not be able to reply much after this post, as I lose connectivity again. So please don't think I'm being ignorant!
Yes mate - a chrome trim. Sexy eh? :)
Thanks mate. :)
The CO2 elbow is plastic from TMC. They do a glass version I think but I...
Hi guys,
Thanks for the interest, and apologies for the delay in posting. My only Internet currently is via cellular data on my iPhone.
Anyway, I'm temporarily connected properly with my computer so here's a few pics...
