Lee With the diameter of the tube you have stated 1.5cm - this sound like a T5 tube - the two brass pins on the ends of the tube are very close together, a T8 tube is 25mm or 1" in its diameter, twice the size. As for changing them - leave them until they stop working or go bang. Regards Paul.

Lee Its advisable to have one continuous lighting period, if you have a twin tube lighting unit within the hood you could have one tube for 6 - 7 hrs and the other tube on for 2 hrs for a mid photoperiod boost, by switch off the lights for a period of time will affect plants photosynthesis...

549mm is the shortist T5 lamp lampspec do, according to your size of 55cm (550mm) there is enough room for a 549mm tube, but you will have to change the lamp holders + ballast unit - mat be better to buy a ready built light fitting, remove the old T8 unit and fit the new unit. Regards Paul.

Damp cloth for cleaning the tubes, as for the reflectors have you thought about stainless steel clean - even though they are not stainless it should be ok as its not an abrasive cream, more of a smooth cream. paul.

It is usually advisable to change them after a twelve month period as they are on a downward spiral - I heard Dennerle tube last approx. 18 months and then they start to drop off. As for different tube - have a look at lampspec as they have numerous different type of tubes available Regards paul.

T5 will definately improve your lighting output, the only down side is that you will have to increase your fertz and Co2 (if you have Co2) as you will require the balance between the three elements: Light / fertz / co2 see attached doc for the "the Golden Triangle"...

Nick If it were me - go for 4 and alter your timings to suit when you are in. My hood has twin switches + leads and come on @ 16:00 @ 2 tubes and @ 18:00 the other 2 tubes come on and off @ 20:00 just leaving 2 tubes on and off @ 23:00. If I had to do it manually I would do the above timings...
