Guys
considering changing my filter media as it looking a bit worse for wear now, 'im using an Eheim Ecco Pro 300 it has three tray, bottom tray has a coarse foam used as a pre cleaner, next tray has plastic tubes and the top tray has small cintred glass ball as per supplied with the filter...

I should have stated last night in my thread reply - that the LPH stated by filter manufactures is when there is no filter media within the canister, I had a Eheim 2080 filter LPH was about 1850 (i think) once the media was added the flowrate decreased by half :wideyed:.
A lot the guy's...
It did cross my mind that there would be some method of shutting off the flow of water but this was not mentioned in the initial posting - but you'll never be able to clean the "closed loop" system as you call it.
Regards
paul.
Have you thought about how you are going to clean the intake / outlet pipe - its not as if you can remove them for cleaning as this would leave three holes for the water to escape through.
Regards
Paul

i assume you did not get a manual with your purchase - if not here is a link.

Hi
Again its word terminology - in my eye 10 x rule is as my previous thread reply eg: 100 ltr tank required 1000 lph of circulated water, that 10 x the volume of water within the tank, the bigger the volume of water the more circulation required eg. 750 litre tank requires 7500 plh water...
Hi all
being saying this for months - but nobody was interested - I have a 2080 which is rated @ 1700 lph actual flow rate is 900 lph - like I have said before: any obstruction - whether it to be filter media inc. sponges within the canister or bio ball with a reactor will slow the return flow...

You have a 2080 like mine dont you?

You require a power variable controller to reduce the power (volts) going to the pump - like the attached http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/POWER-CONTROLLER- ... 19c180fe10
By reducing / controlling the volts going to the pump will reduced the speed of the pump.

Hi
There are 3 different tube sizes for lily pipes - as you will be using a TT1200 you will require the largest one which has an external tube diameter of 17mm. Obviously as the tube diameter reduces the bowl or lily will get smaller. I have one fitted on my tank and I find the flow is more...

Hi
The best way to clean external piping is to remove them from the filter unit and place them into the kitchen sink or bath and flush / clean using tap water - if you pipes are long go for the bath. As for the eheim brush with the nlyon cord - feed the cord into the pipe until it come out of...

It could be down to a lack of cleaning out the filter unit - sponges are not doing their job correctly (sorry to say that) when was the last time you cleaned out the filter unit, its advisable to clean the filter ever 4 -6 weeks. The flow from the powerhead is not distrubing the substrate ...
Hi could you please advise on the substrate / fish within the tank. My thoughts are that you have a sand based substrate and the fish are distrubing the bottom (which cats would do) which in turn is clouding the water.

Save moving / distrubing the original jewel media - set your new external filter up and run the two units together, personally I would leave it for approx. four to six weeks to culture the bacteria within the new filter unit. Then pull your original jewel filter unit out.

Hi
Should not be an issue - try to use as much of your old media as possable, I did the same when I change over from my TT1200 to a Eheim 2080, 2/3 rd of the old media from my TT1200 went into the 2080 + 1/3rd of new media - left it for a month then removed 1/3rd of old media and replaced it...
To keep our water flow at its optimal level i clean my every 4 weeks, use the water from / whilst doing your water change (on the day your decide to clean the sponges) and clean the sponges in the water you have removed.

Theorically yes - but actually "NO" the flow rate is controlled by the quantity of media within the canister unit, to inprove the flow from the canister remove some of the media - but we dont want to do that as filtration would not be as good.

If you do decide to open the hole in the spray bar - open the holes by hand dont use a battery / main operated drill - the pipe is quite rigid and using a power tool will split / crack the pipe - better off drilling it free hand - drill between fingers and twist the drill.

Remove some of the filter media - that will improve the flow:

After looking at the above - thats a lot of media house within the filter unit.

Having a glass outlet will no slow the flow down at all. I my eye's the flow is more even / steady, like I stated earlier I have one and I would not go back to my old method of a spray bar.
Regard
Paul.
I think your problem will be with the intake side - I am using a glass lily on the outlet side only of which i find the flow is more even / steady rather than a point and squirt which you get from a spray bar. Intake side is standard eheim pipes.

Paul.

having watch you video clip it does seem slow, I did notice dirt deposit in the incoming water pipe so this implies there will be a build up of dirt with the filter unit - sponges or media may be clogged - strip it down and give it a good clean, even remove the impellor a clean as well.
