So the results are in from Instagram.
It's very interesting, I don't think I expected it to be so polarising but in hindsight I'm not surprised. There are people who voted that make beautiful planted tanks with every option, so there is by no means one way of doing things. Obviously there are...
I am running 11.2.3 (Big Sur) but an older version of Excel for Mac (16.16.27) without any problems.
One suggestion I have; would it be possible for the latest version number to be displayed on post #1?
Interestingly, I just checked my nitrates for observation purposes and it's as good as 0.
Only 5 days in but could explain why even the fast growers haven't shown so much as a shoot...
Unfortunately I can't edit the poll but I've put the same question on Instagram and the results are definitely interesting.
I'll post them up once more votes have been casted.
Hey everyone,
I'm curious to see how you start fertilising your tanks when using fresh aquasoil in those first few months. I've heard so many conflicting things so I'm intrigued. Reasons why are welcome too!
To be honest, I think I would pay a slight premium just to get them from one place. Now that APFUK has dissolved, I'm having to source salts from here and hither, and I'm paying the premium anyway in delivery fees!
Although I use them, I find Aqua plants care to be unpredictable in stocking...
In this case, would you recommend still using ascorbic acid initially to acidify the water and add the 11% DTPA at the end? Or should I now forego one for the other?
Thanks
Thank you so much! That's super helpful. I'll order some 11%. Do you think this reaction could cause some of the Fe to become unavailable for the plants at all? I don't really have any major plant issues except the old holey leaf in some Bucephalandra.
Also sorry @Rapayich for hijacking your...
It's happened at least twice now, but I've just mixed a new batch so yeah I'll let you know.
Maybe the container just needs cleaning to remove contamination?
Hi mate, these are the deets;
1. It does contain Fe, EDTA
2. Container size is 1L
3. Chelated trace is from Aquarium Plant Food UK and the DTPA is from Aqua Plants Care
4. Tank maximum volume is 300L, but significantly less with the huge bit of wood, although I am dosing as if it is 300L.
I'm glad you posted this, the same thing happens to my solution!
(New clear batch)
(Cloudy batch)
My plants don't appear to be affected as far as I'm aware but I've noticed this. The mixture doesn't smell bad either, does yours?
I had a feeling this was happening for a long time. They weren't restocking many things and the selection was getting progressively more limited.
A shame to see them go! I've been buying from them for 10 years.
Hey Hanuman, I'm not suggesting that you're wrong but I'm curious as to why RO/DI or distilled water is necessary? Only because I've been using tap water for years seemingly without any issues. Happy to be enlightened!
When I get to the target calculator page, section 5 says 'Provide a ratio for each compound you'd like to use'. This is where I'm getting confused. I was thinking it would analyse the result of an APT Complete dose and then inform me how much of each salts I need to add to mimic that. I'm not...
Thanks Hanuman, I haven't solved it actually and I tried to use it again a few days ago with no joy. I don't know if I'm being dense, but once it gets to the individual nutrient part it just fries my brain.
Is there a way to move it into the calculator thread? Or do I need to repost it?
Cheers
Hi Stu, I've used both with success but you have to use much more of TNC as it's less concentrated. So it's cheaper but you'll get through it quicker...
I read about this recently. Did you find this ok to do when filled with water? The balls didn't start to dissolve or escape your tweezers?
I was thinking this could be useful for when a scape is fully grown in and as trying to insert a capsule into a dense carpet or bush is impractical.
Not to hijack the thread, but is boiling water for EI mixtures unnecessary? I've been doing it for about 10 years as that's what it says on the recipe but I would love to omit that part if it's not needed! As you said, it makes life more complicated.
Personally, I make the mixture rather than...
Hey everyone,
I've had a few attempts to use the IFC calculator to make some DIY fertiliser and I can't work it out!
I currently use Aquarium Plant Food UK salts to make their standard EI. However, I want to try and recreate a leaner fertiliser similar to APT Complete and use more root tabs...
Hey Wooki,
Ah yes that makes sense about the Tropica soil, I didn't think of that. Yeah this is for my Tidy Jungle II, at the moment I'm doing water changes every other day or so just to dilute some DOC coming from any plant mass that's melting.
I've been using APFUK dry salts for years now...
Hey guys,
I have the Tropica app on my phone, not really using it but I thought it would be interesting to see when they suggest to start doing certain things. I know it wouldn't be possible to fully follow this anyway as my setup is non CO2 and the guide is based on a CO2 enriched setup...
I reckon it depends. I've doubled my phosphate dosage in my macro mix to combat gsa and it still appears. I just scrape it away before it gets to hard.
Also for the lights, have you considered using a plug timer? You'll never have to think about turning the lights on and off ever again and it...
