Well, I have some Fissidens. :) It was supposed to be in the tank by now but other things have got in the way so it is currently sat in a jug of water. Hopefully be able to get it in on Friday at the latest.

I was thinking about doing this too. I have plenty of rock I can break into small enough pieces.

If I didn't have shrimp in the tank already I would just drain it and then use the DSM to attach the moss. This may still be the best option. The pain with this is going to be getting the shrimp out and keeping them somewhere else. I could remove the rocks but I am slightly reluctant as I just...

Thanks! A few had some issues with algae but I trimmed all the affected leaves off and moved the plants slightly to improve circulation and they seem to have responded well.

I think I will. I used the 1-2-grow stuff in my Betta tank and it did much better than the regular potted batch I used in here. (I appreciate that a different tank will have different factors but I will still give it a go). :)

So it's been nearly 8 months since the last update so the changes are gonna be huge right! OK, I'm not fooling anyone. Not a great deal has changed. It is mostly Anubias after all. [emoji4] The tank went through a bit of a rough patch with diatoms. Had to remove the Lilaeopsis as it suffered...

One of the main benefits of using soil as a base layer is that any detritus (uneaten food, poo etc) that falls to the substrate will work its way to the soil layer and be turned back into soil - rather like a compost heap. If the sand grains are too small this matter will not reach the base layer.

Thanks Fred! As advised, the shrimp are freshwater and can be kept in an unheated tank. I have a heater set to about 19 to stop the temp getting too low. The floor has not be reinforced. This is just a 30 litre tank and it sits next to a 60 litre tank on a solid wood sideboard/cupboard.

I use simple black aquarium backing that can be bought online or at a LFS. I simply apply it with sellotape. If you are happy with the look then you could always paint the back black.

I have considered popping a shelf each side and adding some small tanks and if I owned the place I definitely would!

Lilaeopsis has been bomb proof for me. I had it in a tank once that was neglected for weeks and every other plant suffered but the Lilaeopsis. It will just take forever to grow so is a nice match for the Anubias in that sense.

I've always kept the light level fairly low which the Anubias like.

Well the Peace Lillie's are gone. Due to condensation issues in winter I really needed to minimise any evaporation from the tank. My plan was to substitute the caddies with square pond planters. This serves 2 purposes. One, they would be easier to get between (there would only be 2) to cover...
