    Minnow Island

Having moved about 8 months ago now I've finally got round to setting up another tank. I pretty much only have one space for it and that is in the fireplace. The space itself has dictated many of my choices like tank, stand and filter. I would like to have got an Aquascaper 600 to benefit from...

    Low Tech Kitchen Shrimp Tank

Hi All, A few months ago I set up a 19l P@H Aquarium to house a few snails for my 3 year old son who is fascinated with them. Back in Feb I had to move so the tank also became home for some RCS and my one remaining CRS from my other shrimp tank. The tank was thrown together with bits and...

    My Low Tech Scapers Tanks

Just to put a close to this thread. Both tanks were taken down in Feb due to moving house. I have a shrimp tank and 1 scapers tank running currently. Will start a thread about those at some point soon...

    My Low Tech Scapers Tanks

The tanks are going well. Very slow growth but that is to be expected. I am having to move at the end of this month so the Betta tank is coming down and maybe the shrimp tank too until I can be sure where they will be going at the new address. The filters do a good job but they are not being...

    My Low Tech Scapers Tanks

Well, I have some Fissidens. :) It was supposed to be in the tank by now but other things have got in the way so it is currently sat in a jug of water. Hopefully be able to get it in on Friday at the latest.

    My Low Tech Scapers Tanks

Thanks All! Plan A - drop the water level and stuff the moss into crevices. Plan B - tie it to small pieces of rock Plan C - combine plans A & B [emoji1]
  18. Andy D

    My Low Tech Scapers Tanks

I was thinking about doing this too. I have plenty of rock I can break into small enough pieces.

    My Low Tech Scapers Tanks

If I didn't have shrimp in the tank already I would just drain it and then use the DSM to attach the moss. This may still be the best option. The pain with this is going to be getting the shrimp out and keeping them somewhere else. I could remove the rocks but I am slightly reluctant as I just...

Thanks Roy! I have started a journal HERE. Still need to be able to take a decent photo. I feel the tanks look much better in the flesh. Hoping to start a couple of Wabi-Kusa soon so may need to pick your brains on them. :)

    My Low Tech Scapers Tanks

Thanks! Simply because I like the way the colour matches that of the lava rock. Probably not but I am not too fussed about this as I want a jungle effect after all. If it gets too unruly I will trim it or replace it.

    Andy D's Splendid Tank

    Andy D's Splendid Tank

So it's been nearly 8 months since the last update so the changes are gonna be huge right! OK, I'm not fooling anyone. Not a great deal has changed. It is mostly Anubias after all. [emoji4] The tank went through a bit of a rough patch with diatoms. Had to remove the Lilaeopsis as it suffered...

    My new 200l AquaOak

One of the main benefits of using soil as a base layer is that any detritus (uneaten food, poo etc) that falls to the substrate will work its way to the soil layer and be turned back into soil - rather like a compost heap. If the sand grains are too small this matter will not reach the base layer.

    My Crystal Red Shrimp Tank

Thanks Fred! As advised, the shrimp are freshwater and can be kept in an unheated tank. I have a heater set to about 19 to stop the temp getting too low. The floor has not be reinforced. This is just a 30 litre tank and it sits next to a 60 litre tank on a solid wood sideboard/cupboard.

I've only kept Odessa's in lidded Juwel tanks so no issues with finding them on the floor. I did find one in the filter though! Not had any jumping issues with my cherry barbs. They can take a while to get established before any growth becomes apparent. IIRC Mick did explain that because the plants have all the nutrition they need in the gel it takes a while for them to adapt and develop the mechanism to utilise what's available to them in the tank. Typically just a...

Jakes's New Aquascape in the making

I have considered popping a shelf each side and adding some small tanks and if I owned the place I definitely would!

    Epiphyte 'Tree'

Maybe just put it in storage for a while? My boy is 2 1/2 now but for the first year I did find it hard to keep on top of the maintenance for the 4/5 tanks I was running so I downsized to just 2 tanks. Now I'm back up to 5. [emoji4]

    Epiphyte 'Tree'

A few minor things: 1. The plan was for the tank to be home to some CPD's but due to a re-scape of another tank it is now home to Ember Tetras, Chilli Rasbora and Green Neon Tetras. 2. I added ten yellow cherry shrimp. I am now down to two. I could not work out what the problem was and then...

I went to the LFS on Sunday. The Kribs really did catch my eye. Instead I bought some Cherry Barbs. I have admired these...

Lilaeopsis has been bomb proof for me. I had it in a tank once that was neglected for weeks and every other plant suffered but the Lilaeopsis. It will just take forever to grow so is a nice match for the Anubias in that sense.

Well the Peace Lillie's are gone. Due to condensation issues in winter I really needed to minimise any evaporation from the tank. My plan was to substitute the caddies with square pond planters. This serves 2 purposes. One, they would be easier to get between (there would only be 2) to cover...
