I would look to move the drop checker nearer to the substrate and see how it reads.
I suspect the issue lies with circulation and the CO2/nutrients not getting to the plants. I would look to adjust the output from the filter to point away from the surface (which is most likely speeding up the...
One day I'm gonna put this to the test.
You can plant them in the substrate (sorry Roy) but, on the basis that the rhizome may rot, you should ensure this sits on the substrate. I have a lot of Anubias like this and they seem to grow better than those on wood/rock.
I would consider Tropica Specialised or TNC Complete (basically an all-in-one full range fert) or you can mix you own from powders (which is the cheapest option) - see EI starter kit from Aquarium Plant Food...
For me it is Anubias. I got back into fishkeeping about 3.5 years ago and I still have the Anuboas from then. Have managed to get a few new plants from it too!
Do you have a pic?
I'm pretty sure I have this Crypt and it does seem to stay pretty small. It's a nice plant but I may have to find a new home for mine as I was planning on it adding a bit more height.
Is this it?
Hoggie - temp is matched quite closely as I use the hot water to being temp up if too cold.
Ian - I use Prime on ALL water now after reading your prior posts about this.
Hi All,
Just after some options (or definite answer) on why my Crypts have melted.
Over this last week I have had Cryptocoryne Wendtii Brown melt in 2 different tanks.
Tank 1 has been set up for 2 months. Plant was an established plant from Aquafleur.
Tank 2 has been set up for 4 months...
I believe it is down to nutrient demand but this is my theory and others may well actually know. :)
When my LED bar was about 5" from the surface the Pistia stayed relatively small - about 1-2" across. The roots were also no more than about 2-3" long.
When I dropped the LED bar to about an...
Hi Jose,
The point that is being made is that the plant is melting due to a CO2 deficiency.
IF (please note - IF [emoji4] )the only way to solve the problem is to up the CO2 levels beyond what the fish can tolerate then you have two choices:
1. Remove the fish and therefore the restriction...
Here is my experience with Water Lettuce.
1. It does not like a lot of flow. I find this with a lot of floaters except duckweed which is nuclear proof.
2. Leaf size is proportional to the light it receives. I have had my light about 6 inches from the surface and my water lettuce stayed about...
I would say it is almost certainly the liquid carbon. It has to be diluted to be sprayed on. I did this once and even with a dilution of 4 parts water to 1 part liquid carbon I still managed to kill off a lot of leaves.
Thanks Martin. I did consider that but pictures I looked at show it much bushier so I discounted it but I think you are right. :)
I think this one is in a bad way.
Depends on the plant. Most are already separated but are bunched together in the pot and should just pull apart. You will be able to the individual plants.
What are you planning on getting?
Hi All,
I will be setting up a Riparium in about 5 weeks when my new tanks arrive and I have bought some plants for it today. They are:
Peace Lily
Maidenhair Fern
Ficus
Calathea
Current plans are to stick these in shower caddies with some clay balls capped with cat litter. I may add some...
That's what I thought!
I saw a couple of greying leaves on Friday and meant to trim them off but did not get round to it. Came back to it less than 24 hours later and the plant was just mush with the stem just about intact. Roots were healthy though.
Thanks Nathaniel,
I did consider this and it may well be the case. I have cranked CO2 though as there are no fish in the tank but again I know it may not be getting to the plants. I will try to add some sort of picture to assist. I just suprises me that the plants in question deteriorate sooo...
Hi All,
I am wondering if you can help diagnose what is happening to my Staurogyne Repens. I have lost about 4/5 stems of this now. Each one starts off with the leaves going grey and within 24 hours the whole plant has disintegrated.
I don't have any pics I am afraid as I remove the plants...
I have asked this question before on PFK and did not get any explanation why it would rot. I can only think that it must need light getting to it.
Hopefully one of the experts can advise.
I use an older version of the free app. When you click on the camera icon you are then able to select a picture. Once you have done this you should get the following screen:
Then select 'Tapatalk Hosted'.
Do you get that screen?
Might help if you can get a picture to help identify it but if it is growing in your pond it should grow in you tank.
I have a load of moss in my pond. I threw a handful in a while ago and got about ten times as much out again when I cleared the pond out.
I have duckweed in a couple of my tanks.
The only thing that is irritating is that whenever I have to do any maintenance in the tank I end up with it all over my arm.
It is very easy to remove. Just skim of with a net. The difficulty is making sure you get all of it. However just a few odd...
