    What next......

Personally I would use a complete fert like Neutro+ rather than Neutro T but having said that, if the tank is doing well why change it?
  2. Andy D

    How do you all dose

I simply make up micro and macro ferts as per EI guides but as all of my tanks are low tech/energy I only dose a couple of times a week.

    ei dosing

Where did you get the kit from? Who told you it would be too weak?
  4. Andy D

    all in one fertiliser

I've used TNC Complete and Tropica Specialised. TBH I did not notice a great deal (if any) of difference between them. TNC offers better value for money.

    ADA Pump Ferts

ADA have various Green Brighty's and they are designed to be used at different stages and for different plant types. Have a read here: http://www.adana.co.jp/en/contents/products/na_liquid/detail01.html#series-box4

    ADA Pump Ferts

I suppose it depends if you are going to follow their dosing regime or not?

What are you trying to change/improve with a different fert?

In short yes. Your only one powder away from a macro mix anyway - http://www.aquariumplantfood.co.uk/fertilisers/dry-chemicals/starter-kits/ei-starter-kit.html

Ammonium Nitrate - toxic or not?

    Thanks! [emoji106]

Ammonium Nitrate - toxic or not?

Hi All, I'm sure Mick or others will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Tropica Specialised used ammonium nitrate as its nitrogen source? Now my understanding of ammonia/ammonium is that both are present and the amount/toxicity of each depends upon pH and temperature. Therefore what makes...

Signs of deficiency , E.I, floating plants.

Not really as this will increase the light intensity again. I would just up the dosage and see how this goes.
  12. Andy D

Signs of deficiency , E.I, floating plants.

The symptoms you describe sound like nutrient deficiencies so I would suggest increasing the dosage and see how this goes. Maybe start with 1.5 X the dosage?

    High Nitrate due to Ferts

Who knows! That's the issue. :) Can you just confirm exactly what fert you are dosing? In the original post you mentioned APF Dry Mix and now you mention Complete and Light which makes me think you are using TNC. Ultimately I would not worry about it. Even dosing EI levels...

    High Nitrate due to Ferts

Also take a look at this thread - http://forum.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/showthread.php?t=112786 Look at my test results on nitrate. It certainly demonstrates a point you will come across time and again on here about the pointlessness about using test kits due to inaccuracy.

    High Nitrate due to Ferts

I would say the best thing to do is use the search function in the forum and search for 'high nitrates'. You will come across many threads like this one - http://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/ferts-causing-high-nitrate.16092/ Take your time to read through them and pay attention to what Ceg and...

    tropica ferts

900l of ferts. How big was the tank! :D
  17. Andy D

    tropica ferts

Just bare in mind that the Tropica guidelines are not for tanks with a plant mass as high as what UKAPS members are used to seeing. I think they recommend something along the lines of dosing the weekly amount 3 times a week for heavily planted tanks.

    JBL FerroTabs

There are not too many (if any?) aquarium ferts that are dangerous to shrimp. They don't tend to contain a lethal level of copper. If you want something straight forward then check out the Tropica range.
  19. Andy D

    Adding nitrate to stocked aquarium

As Dominic and other experts on here advise, nitrate tests kits are horribly inaccurate so you may do more harm then good by following what it tells you. Just dose as per the EI instructions and monitor, monitor, monitor. It is very unlikely the nitrate will get to a level that causes problems.

TNC Complete Vs. TNC Dry EI

I'm sure I read in one of Clive's post that the gradual increase in light is actually better for the plants. I cannot remember the exact reason why right now but could probably find the thread if needed. It would certainly mimic nature more to do this. Change the ferts if you like so you can at...

TNC Complete Vs. TNC Dry EI

Ha ha! It would not have been me. I only use Gandalf on here and PFK. :)
  22. Andy D

TNC Complete Vs. TNC Dry EI

I also wonder if the issue lies elsewhere. Keith what makes you think it is the nutrients specifically? What deficiency signs are the plants showing? If I recall from PFK you have an ADA 60P with FECO2 and 2 TMC mini tiles? Are the lights still just above the water? How long are they on for...

Ah yeah. Just spotted it was premium and not specialised.

    Tnc complete or tropica specialised

Both Tropica and TNC advise to dose 1ml per 10 litres (Tropica is actually 1.2ml but to make it easier I have rounded down). Tropica Specialised is about £12 for 300ml. TNC Complete is about £14 for 1000ml. So in terms of value for money the TNC seems to offer much more for your money but...

Why dose ferts daily if manufactures advise weekly?

Good! Its a fine line! :nailbiting:

Why dose ferts daily if manufactures advise weekly?

Mick, do you work for Tropica? I hope this has not caused offence? I did not wish to single them out and my question was one born purely out of curiosity as to why the consensus on planted tank forums was to dose daily but the actual manufactures of the ferts advise to dose weekly. I have...

    tropica specialised dosage

Mine has just started with these products although they have Premium and not Specialised. They have CO2 set up in one tank too but it is not very well maintained.

    tropica specialised dosage

You may have seen it in my other thread but I asked them why they suggest dosing weekly. Here was the response: 'I have read the tread on ukaps and understand your confusion. You’re right, it is always better to dose frequently and in smaller quantities than to dose more rarely and in greater...

    tropica specialised dosage

George uses this so perhaps he can advise on his dosage regime? Their guideline is 1 pump (1.2ml) per 10 litres per week but for high-tec they advise to dose 2-3 times per week.
  32. Andy D

Why dose ferts daily if manufactures advise weekly?

I'm sure you have told me this before to be fair but my memory is not as good as it once was! :D You'll have to remind me, does he work for Tropica?
  33. Andy D

Why dose ferts daily if manufactures advise weekly?

Response from Tropica: I have read the tread on ukaps and understand your confusion. You’re right, it is always better to dose frequently and in smaller quantities than to dose more rarely and in greater quantities. The plants prefer to be fed regularly – like humans. When fertilizers are added...
  34. Andy D

Why dose ferts daily if manufactures advise weekly?

I'm not sure I buy into that either. We manage to feed our fish every day so how much harder would it be to add 1 pump (using Tropica once more as an example as their pump system is easy) of ferts each day. I think I may email Tropica later. :)
  35. Andy D

Why dose ferts daily if manufactures advise weekly?

Perhaps this is why. Are we adopting the EI process with our ferts as we understand the benefits it brings?
  36. Andy D

Why dose ferts daily if manufactures advise weekly?

The consensus though is to split the weekly recommended dose into daily amounts so this would still equate to the same amount of ferts being dosed over the week. Don't get me wrong I dose daily and don't really question why too much (and perhaps I should ask Tropica) but given that they grow...

Why dose ferts daily if manufactures advise weekly?

Hi All, Well the title says it all really. What I am wondering is why we dose our ferts daily when just about every ferts manufacturer advises dosing on a weekly basis? Thanks.
