Really pleased with how this plant is doing in my tank. (Med light and liquid carbon/ei. Has anyone else had success in these conditions. Also any tips on propogation, as I want to fill out front corner of my tank. Thanks, Steve

    Lighting, Novice

You could probably get away with lowering it a little and then keep an eye on your plants health. As the plant mass increases then maybe increase the lighting intensity a bit.

    Lighting, Novice

I'm using two TMC grobeam 600's on my fluval 125L. Their installed in the hood and because I have good flow, high nutrients and double dose the liquid carbon I haven't had any algae issues with the light levels - yet. If you can get the TMC's from here second hand, I'm sure you'll like the look...

Looks good. I've wanted to take the plastic off my Roma 125 but haven't plucked up the courage. I've just put a pair of grobeams on mine which are so much better than the T8 tubes. Keep us updated with the ranks progress. Steve

    Algae problems

Good to hear mate. I've learnt that flow distribution, (high Or low tech) is very important, along with regular sufficient water changes and correct light and nutrient uptake. I've had my first planted tank running for 18 months and its only just starting to look lush and healthy !

fluval Roma, which external upgrade ?

I've been running my tetratec ex700 for a year or so now on my 125L. But I've known for some time that turnover in my tank (heavily planted) isn't enough. So what upgrade would you more experienced peeps recommend. I'm thinking JBL e1501, tetratec ex1200, or fluval 306. All of those are in my...

    Starting point 1st Aquascape

Cracking tank mate, really lush and healthy. How have you set up the main lighting. Also do you manage to keep the yeast co2 stable ? I struggled with mine and had algae outbreaks so I went with liquid carbon. I may try the two and give your recipe a go.

  28. island lad

    lighting/liquid carbon.

I've been looking at separate single controllers, although I realise another T8 tube may be a problem to fit. Adding a single T5ho might be pushing it. At the end of the day I just want to illuminate the tank better and if plant growth improves then that's an added bonus. But I don't want to be...

    lighting/liquid carbon.

I may even consider a 3rd T8 tube instead. Giving approx 60watts of light. Would this option be OK without pressurised co2 ?.

    lighting/liquid carbon.

Blimey that is cheap. I wonder what they will look like alongside the tmc grobeam 600. Thanks for the info mate.
  31. island lad

    lighting/liquid carbon.

Yes its aqua glo and life glo bulbs. Both give off a pinkish colour which I don't like, your right they are dull.. I will take a look on lampspecs. I've also just noticed BBA on my anubias so hopefully the liquid carbon will take care of that
  32. island lad

    lighting/liquid carbon.

I've got some diy reflectors in mine, but the overall look is still a bit dull. I think the right led bar with better T8 tubes will look good. I just don't want to push the lighting to the point where pressurised co2 is a must.
  33. island lad

    lighting/liquid carbon.

Thanks Alastair. So if I add one grobeam to benefit plants and viewing pleasure, Im still safe without pressurised co2 ? If so then I think that's the route I will take. Also can you recommend a few single led uni'ts that would fit on my fluval Roma 125 ? Many thanks.

Alternate bottles weekly. Its OK though I'm going down the FE co2 route this week. Yeast co2 isn't worth the hassle. I've learned that if you want a lush green high tech tank then you need the right gear to do it. Steve

    12000k T8's

Your light setup looks nice and natural. Maybe converting to T5's would be the way to go. I'd have to convert the hood on my Roma but there's some YouTube stuff to show me how to do it.

I've been looking at the oceanic 12000k T8's on Lampspecs website. Will the 18w tubes run OK in my lighting hood. (Its the standard 20w T8 hood for the fluval Roma 125L). If it will run OK, will I see a significant improvement in brightness/plant growth. I've been advised to look at the...

  63. island lad

    ludwigia repens not growing

Hi, I've recently moved the spraybar to the side of the tank, halved it and increased the size of the holes and the flow seems to be stronger and more even. I admit that the tetratec ex700 is a little under power for my 125 litre and if I'd have known at the time, I would have bought the 1200...

As title says, im struggling with the plant. dosing easy carbo (5ml) in 125L. also flow seems good and Ei dosing is 10ml per 50L from 500ml solution. Darrel that's definitely food for thought. Although I'm a bit hesitant to stop the liquid carbon, mainly due to the fact that I had really bad algae problems before I changed the substrate and upped the carbon dosing from standard to x2. The tank isn't in direct sunlight but since summer has...

EI kit ordered. but how much liquid carbon?

Or maybe with the 2x20 watts of lighting then maybe I should just dose with the salts and scrap the carbon. One things for sure, I don't think I need nor can I afford to run pressurized co2. So much to learn !
  71. island lad

EI kit ordered. but how much liquid carbon?

Yeah the one bunch of grass in my tank has gone from bad to worse but if I'm dosing with ei then surely some amount of carbon will be necessary ? All other plants are doing OK with the profito but the ei will surely produce improvement overall.
  72. island lad

EI kit ordered. but how much liquid carbon?

I'm doing fifty percent water change weekly anyway. And I was thinking 2x dosage for the carbon (5ml). I guess I was trying to figure balance between low light, decent ferts and amount of carbon. I don't think flow is an issue from what I can see but maybe something for me to keep an eye on...

EI kit ordered. but how much liquid carbon?

Just ordered the ei starter kit for my Roma 125L. The tank has the standard 2x 20w T8's (8hrs a day), with A tetratec 700 external along with the internal fluval filter. The tank is moderately planted and I've been dosing 15ml of profito per week along with 2.5ml easycarbo per day. When the...
