    Most effective fungal treatment?

That's the stuff I use. I dose at a rate of 10ml per 40L with heavy oxygenation via an airstone. Observe the fish for distress. Remove after half an hour. Tends to do the trick the first time around, otherwise give it a day or two and dose again. Do NOT overdose!

    Most effective fungal treatment?

I can say with 100% certainty that you want to use Potassium permanganate. You'll find it in amongst the koi treatments. We use it in the trade to treat this sort of infection. A high concentration bath with an airstone works well.

I am running CO2 though. It isn't the CO2 that causes the problem, its light light light!

Adding gas to low tech tank?

Been running a Home 60 with moss and stems for about a month now; no proper ferts, and fairly low light. It's basically an average low tech with CO2 added at an unknown level. I'm having absolutely no problems with algae. In fact, I'm not even running 10x turnover.

    Interested to know why.

    Nano Substrate

It won't happen overnight, so it's nothing to worry about. Soil is excellent for low tech tanks; all that I've set up with soil have thrived. A bed of a couple of inches is plenty, just make sure you cap it with a decent layer of fine gravel or coarse sand. Fine gravel with root tabs or...

Best place to buy hard scrape material

No, sorry, I'm miles up in th grim north! If they don't know who to order from, Pettex do the various rock types and should have an order book with pictures you can direct them from, and ADC do the spider wood. Might all be a bit of a faff though, and probably end up being easier to order from...

Best place to buy hard scrape material

Bigger Maidenheads tend to do azalea root (spider wood) and different types of rock. Their own brand gravel supplier does dragon stone, manten stone, mini landscape rock etc. Might be worth seeing if they'll get some in with your next order.

    Shrimp in a discus tank?

I'd always avoid keeping shrimp with discus, as at some point, you're going to need to worm the tank, which doesn't tend to be invert friendly.
  15. Henry

    Akadama or Moler Clay?

Moler clay can be used to cap any base layer you like. Just bear in mind that it's very light initially, so be wary of clouding if you disturb the substrate. Osmocote has worked well for me in the past; can't pass judgement on the Tropica stuff.
  16. Henry

    Pre filter maintenance

Get them under a tap and squeeze them repeatedly until the water runs clear; the media inside the filter will deal with the ammonia etc. You're aiming to remove particulate before it gets to your canister filter media (thus reducing maintenance etc.), not facilitating the whole filter process in...

    Limnophila advice

Neutro Neutro T only contains micronutrients; it's macronutrients your L. sessiflora is hungry for. If you give it NPK it grows like a weed, regardless of flow, CO2 etc. The only root feeders I know of that have macros are Colombo Nutricaps, although you can easily make your own using osmocote.
  33. Henry

    Limnophila advice

In my experience, L. sessiflora is an absolute nitrate hog. Either get yourself some fertiliser with high macros, or some osmocote based root tabs and you'll be good to go.

Well, here I am again. This time I'm making my own root tabs. My question is this: how much of the bentonite clay can I add to a 600L tank without upsetting the parameters too drastically? Same thread as small disposable bottles?

The 4x2x2 is about 300 litres, I think. I'm getting roughly 3 months from it, on for 8 hours a day. Thread size is M10x1, unsure of the thread on the regulator you mention, but yes, you'll still need one on the bottle.

Emergency fish medicines to always keep on hand

At low doses, it isn't particularly bad for your filter, but definitely isn't invert safe. It's actually a pretty brutal medicine, especially in the powder form in which it is usually sold for koi; definitely not one to overdose. It's the active ingredient in the own brand internal bacteria...

Emergency fish medicines to always keep on hand

I've never used medicines in my home tanks (inverts etc), but from shop experience, I'd say anything with chloramine T is an absolute winner. Usually sold as an internal bacteria treatment, but it'll sort out most ailments including white spot and fin rot.

Choosing rocks for a hardscape, help?

Use the Eheim with a full length spraybar, glass if you're going for the super clean look. Shrimp don't mind fairly high flow, and the spraybar should spread it out fairly well anyway. If you're removing fish, I'd just trim it right back an up CO2. Get some stems in to outcompete any further algae, and go from there. There's also the option of taking cuttings and putting it into an emersed setup to speed up new growth.
