Tank looks great! Where did you find a glass intake with a surface skimmer?

    Would this led be suitable?

I have used the 24" version of the Beamswork to good effect, when used with Co2, Ferts and a good maintenance routine this light unit would be plenty bright enough for your needs.

    K1 filter media

I am planning on using K1 in my sump filter of my new tank, it's a great media with good surface area. K1 is a self cleaning media when used in a fluidized bed filter. For a planted tank I am not sure its necessary because most of the biological work should take place in the tank.

TMC LED are amazing, I have the marine whites on my cichlid tank but like you said I would need 2x 2 channel controllers to run them (if I wanted the sunrise/sunset feature) Its the price putting me off so might try out this Beamsworks unit, plus its on sale too. I will have a read of your...

Fissidens fontanus or is it ?

I had a closer look today, some of the small bits was in fact being held down by the Fissidens but there was 2 large clusters of Riccia which looked like they was in fact 'clinging' on to the root wood........anyways, I remove most of what I could see and lefts only 2 clusters of Riccia.

    Regulator issues.

I ordered one of these, but when I received it the hose size is to small and will reduce the flow so decided not to use it. the plants are growing and pearling so I guess even with the low bps its doing the job.
  27. justin85

Fissidens fontanus or is it ?

I will inspect it closer tomorrow when the lights are on, but I have got parts of the root wood where there is no fissidens but there is some of this other moss growing and its quite bushy looking and it fully attached to the root wood.
  28. justin85

Fissidens fontanus or is it ?

Really? it seems to be attached quite strong to the root wood. I did a dry start so there's no string holding the moss in place.
  29. justin85

Fissidens fontanus or is it ?

  53. justin85

  57. justin85

    Seachem purigen

Ahh ok cool, do you change 50% daily in newly setup tanks? or every 2 days for the first week.
  58. justin85

    Seachem purigen

Ok so I left it in and the tank it full now. You don't like stability? It works great for when you need a tank up and running in an emergency (which happens a lot with my cichlids) most people seed using there main filter bit I only open mine when I have to.
  59. justin85

    Seachem purigen

I am just about to setup my planted tank tomorrow, using aqua soil will kick off the cycle but will also supplement it with a 7 day course of seachem stability. When do you think it would be best to add seachem purigen to the filter, right away or wait till the end of the 1st week?

I am probably just going to buy a TMC regulator dual pro as I want something I know that I can rely on, and I know TMC are pure quality. There are lots of regulators eBay buy its hard to tell if there good quality or not as most are imported. I thought £15 was a steal ! but I guess it wasn't
