    Did something eat these?

Hi Josh, Could you please post an updated picture of the tank and current dosing regime. Regards, Soham

    Myriophyllum mattogrossense starving

By looking at the health of some of the older leaves, it seems to me there is phosphate deficiency in the tank. You can try adding 0.1 ppm of phosphate everyday and see if it makes any difference. Please remember that adding phosphate would speed up uptake of other nutrients as well. So keep any...

    Did something eat these?

Most likely, but I can not say for sure. Because Ludwigia leaf curling/bending can also occur due to other factors. That's why I like to keep all the nutrient levels 'low'. Then there is nothing in excess creating toxicity/unmet demand for other nutrients. Daily dosing, good CO2 and flow should...

    Did something eat these?

Considering you have very softwater, effects of excess nutrient (specially traces) would be even more pronounced. Things seem to be improving gradually. If you do not see any improvement of Ludwigia (which you probably won't), please do a couple of massive water changes and cut down on traces.

    Did something eat these?

Pogostemon produces way more dense and elaborate root system compared to Rotala. In my experience, Pogo takes some time to first establish it's root system and then starts to grow. Rotala takes off immediately. This might explain why Pogo does better on the face of changing water parameters as...

    Did something eat these?

Excellent. You do not need to add anymore calcium magnesium to your water if your water already have 8 and 2 ppm respectively. At recommended level, almost every very brand of fertilizer adds no more than 1 ppm of magnesium to the tank per week. Keep your the low regime of potassium. Also do...

    Did something eat these?

I went back to see the videos carefully. In the plant profile video of Rotala green, do you think those plants are at their best? 45 seconds into the video, notice how curled up the leaves are. Then at 10 week update, plants are already starting to suffer. I should say plant were not doing well...

    Did something eat these?

He makes his own light with locally sourced RGB LEDs. The tank is under low nitrate level ofcourse. I wanted to point out the narrow long shape of the leaves, not the colour. When Rotala is healthy it always produces long narrow leaves. Short compact leaves are always a sign of something...

    Did something eat these?

You are welcome. Please don't take my previous comment in a negative way. Because I have seen many times what many label as 'healthy' are not really in the optimal form. Infact I have seen only few tanks where Rotala flourished in hard water/ EI level of dosing. That's why I am just trying to...

    Did something eat these?

Because I spent months trying to grow Rotala in my hard tapwater. I tested with drop checker, pH-KH chart, tried switching on CO2 hours before light came on. Plus it is just not me, there are tons of threads where people have tried in vein to improve plant health just by nailing the co2...

    Did something eat these?

I suggested water changes to reduce the overall level of nutrient in the tank. I am telling you this because I faced exact same problem with Rotala. I had very hardwater, with 20+ ppm nitrate present. I cut it down with RO and dosed way less. Things improved dramatically over a couple of weeks...

    Did something eat these?

Please stop dosing EI for few days, reduce your trace dosing to a max of 0.1-0.2 ppm per week. For potassium and nitrate stay under 5-7 ppm.Do few water changes. Ofcourse you can increase the dosing even more as few suggested, I bet you wouldn't see any difference. How hard is your water?

    Ludwigia, curled stunted growth

That has absolutely nothing to do with any 'damage' done by any nematode/bacteria. Such leaf curling has been reported many times for ludwigia and rotala species growing either in hardwater or under EI dosing. I have faced similar situation as well. Some says it's CO2 deficiency, trust me it's...

Thanks for clearing up the confusion. That's a pretty inspiring tank.

What's the latest consensus on the effect of high KH on plant growth?

Dear members, What I have read in various forums so far is that high GH values isn't a big deal for most plants and they grow just fine. There seem to be a difference in opinion regarding high KH values. My first question is what's considered as a high KH level? Mine is 9 dH. Is it high or...
