    Hardy carpet plant advice

Hmmm, I am reluctant to loose the dollar as I have had it from a quarter and it is now the size of a tennis ball! Same applies to the plec but it looks like the only option if I want to develop my tank. Thanks for your help

    Hardy carpet plant advice

Hi all. I am looking for advice on the best hardy carpet plant for my Juwel Trigon 190. The reason I want a hardy and fast growing plant is due to the 6 inch Plec and the Silver dollar which also live in the tank. I have had many failures in the past with plants like Pogostemon Helferi - partly...

    Brown Algae problem - again!

Hi. Does this make sense to you - "Brown algae are usually caused by an excess of silicates (silicic acid, SiO2)and nitrates in the water. To stop it coming back first of all look at how much you are feeding and try to reduce that and also if you have a canister filter (external power) put some...

Help growing Flame Moss (Taxiphyllum Sp )

Hi. I have just bought a couple of pieces of wire mesh with Taxiphyllum Sp moss growing on it. My intention is to get this to grow up a root placed in my aquarium. Can anyone with experience in growing Taxiphyllum Sp advise me as to if it needs to be on the substrate or can the mesh be placed...

    Dwarf Hair Grass died!

Hi all. Just an update on my algae problem. Since my last post i have put back my CO2 and instaled a secondary Flval 306 external filter. My aquarium looks awesome - crystal clear and really healthy. The down side was that I binned most of my existing algae covered plants and replaced them...

    New secondary filter.

Hi all. I just wanted to let everyone know that I bought and installed a new Fluval 306 external filter for my Juwel trigon 190. The aquarium came new with a Bioflo 300 internal filter system which is ok but not, in my opinion, capable of coping with a planted tank and quite a few fish on its...

    Dwarf Hair Grass died!

Thanks for this nry. Looks like you could be right on the money. My use of Co2 has been somewhat sporadic over the last few weeks as I ran out of it and removed the kit to clean it (I know, I am a bit of a plonker!) Its now back in the aquarium. I have been putting it on when I switch the lights...

    Dwarf Hair Grass died!

The lights are T5 which came new with the tank. The drop checker is now showing a mid green (grass like) colour. Is that ok?

    Dwarf Hair Grass died!

Hi there. I have a Juwel Trigon 190 which is about 6 months old. It has about 5 plants in it and a number of various fish. The water quality is spot on. There is an Aquagro hobby Co2 kit and I try to keep the lights on about 8 to 9 hours per day. Over the last few weeks there has been some...

Are ferts making nitrate levels soar?

Hi all. I recently started dosing my tank daily with Aqua Nourish ferts as instructed on the bottle for about a week. My Nitrate levels have now shot up to 60 to 80 ppm! I have stopped dosing for now but wondered if anyone else has experienced this or can advise if it is the ferts that have...

New and first ever planted tropical aquarium

Thanks for the advice. The tank is now starting to look great (with no synthetic stuff! :D ). I have added a Alternanthera cardinalis, Ludwigia peruviana and some Micromanthemum umbrosum and Pogostemon helferi for foreground cover. Also started to dose with ferts since receiving more great...

Do I need to ad ferts?

Thanks for this. The tank I have is a Juwel Trigon 190 ltr. I am not sure what sort of compost it was. The shop guy just said if I was to have plants then I ould need compost! I have Juwel T5 lights which are on for about 8 hours a day and a CO2 diffuser which provides 6 or 7 bubbles a minute in...

Do I need to ad ferts?

Hi all. I am a complete novice and have a 190ltr tank which is about 6 weeks old. When I set it up I first added a bag of aquatic compost followed by pea gravel. Do I still need to add ferts or is this dependant on the individual plants etc? There are about 6 plants including a couple of...

New and first ever planted tropical aquarium

Thanks for your reply Harry. I dont add any ferts. When I set up the tank the first stuff to go in was a bag of aquatic compost supplied by the shop, then the pea gravel. I assumed this would supply enough nutrients for the plants for a good few months. Will gladly take advice on this tho...

New and first ever planted tropical aquarium

My new Helfiri arrived and I have planted them :D Looking at various web based instructions for maintaining and growing them there seems to be an opinion that low to med light is better combined with no CO2! I have a Juwel Trigon with T5 lights and a CO2 diffuser. The lights are usually on for...

    Snails!

Hi all. My tanks is now about 5 weeks old and last night when watching the fish I noticed a tiny snail about the size of a bit of pea gravel!. Needless to say I soon lost sight of it. I guess it came from the plants. will it be harmful etc and should it be removed when i next spot it? Thanks Tim

Hi all. This is my new Juwel Trigin 190 tropical aquarium. It is my first attempt at both a tropical aquarium and using plants. The only exception to the real plants is the red plastic one which my wife insisted i put in to add some colour. If anyone out there can advise me as to a real...
