Took all Cyperus out. It did die slowly. No to very little growth. Probably not enough light because in the middle it did do best. So I'm looking for another plant in the back. Thinking about Eleocharis vivpara or Vallsneria nana. I'm scared the val will grow too fast and Eleocharis will look...

Critique my hardscape Fluval Studio 900

With wood, I don't think less is more. More is better I think. 80% will not be visible once the plants grow in. So I'd definitely add a little more wood than you think is good. I liked the wider setup in the beginning and really like the curve in the wood that was in front in the first picture...

    Stainless steel

Stainless steel is made to rust much slower compared to normal steel (it's in the name;)). Even filters are made from it (ADA) or filter in and outlets etc. It will rust eventually but unless you use salt water, this will be so extremely slow, it doesn't matter. And even if it did get rusty...

I've used ADA, Dennerle, Tropica and some others. They all lower the KH and pH, the biggest difference is in the amount of nutrients. Pointers on resolving algae problem

Well, the brown algae in the last photo is loved by Otocinclus, so just get yourself a couple of them. For the rest, the plants just look like they get a bit to little fertilizer. Add some more, trim the old ugly leaves and your good to go again!

I know it's the wood, but I used this type of wood before in another scape (see picture below), but this was a considerable smaller amount of wood off course. I think you miss one thing. Healthy plants is not only high O2. It's also low organics. When O2 is high but plants unhealthy, there will still be loads of organics -> a lot of heterotrophic bacteria -> B12 & ammonia formation -> BBA.
