    shrimp (in)activity and liquid carbon

I find this too - When I add liquid carbon to spot dose on BBA I see my Amanos a lot less.

It's a wonder what a bit of fish poo can do

Looks splendid. I use tank water for all my house plants, they seem to love it!

How I deal with BBA - no chemicals

I'd not thought of using a wire brush before - thanks for sharing.

    Sand on substrate?

To avoid the Eco Complete slowly making its way up above the sand, you can use a plastic mesh (available cheaply on ebay). I've done this with Tropica Plant Growth Substrate and it's worked well so far.

    80cm Long (86l) Custom

Thanks for your comments, all. I'm really pleased with the setup so far. The flow certainly isn't as much as I see on most people's tanks, but what would be the warning signs to look out for in terms of up'ing the flow? The last pic was of the tank about a week after planting. I dosed half EI...

    Calling DIY cabinet builders!

Three coats of MDF Primer, then two of a water-based gloss on mine. No extra waterproofing, but I'm careful to avoid spills.

    Mighty Cave - ADA 60P

I've not come across Hygrophila Pinnatifida before, what a beautiful plant! I've ordered some for my 80l tank - have you just glued it down there?

    Clear aquarium lid

It's worth checking your local plastic sheet supplier: I popped into one and got a 5mm polycarbonate offcut, cut to my custom size, for a fiver. To make holes for the inlet and outlet I then used a drill with a spade bit, then cut into the circle using a hacksaw.

Buying New or Winging it on eBay

The Chihiros A-Series Plus A601 will fit an 81cm tank length. I have one over an 80cm tank and the arms can be extended further. The rim of the tank needs to be 15mm or less, though.

Not sure if this is the 'right' way, but I screwed and glued at the same time. Seems to have worked!

    I'll try that, thanks.

    Glare from LED lighting?

Thanks, Tim. Do you find that one A Series gives enough light on your 90cm, or is it the 'plus' version? It's a beautiful tank you've got. That was my reason for asking about the glare!

    Glare from LED lighting?

As part of a new, open top setup, I'm looking to make the switch to LED lighting. My only concern is that the tank will be in our living room, and the lighting will be above head height when sat down. Do LED units tend to give off much glare, which might be distracted when reading/watching TV...

DIY Project DIY ADA Style Aquarium Stand

Going to have a go myself at one of these, great thread! What is the consensus on what to use as a primer? It seems some are using PVA whilst others are using water based primer? If you use the latter, do you then have to seal the top coat with a varnish to make it waterproof(ish)?

    Plant ID please

This little fellow has cropped up in my tank - I think it must have come with some Pogostemon Helferi I got recently. Please could someone tell me what it is? It is producing a new leaf about every two days. ...and a fish for scale! Thanks!

Staurogyne - Help ID this deficiency?

I have four Amano shrimp, 5 red phantom tetras, and 5 pygmy or dwarf corydoras (I just realised i'm not actually sure which - time for another thread!). Should these be ok with an up'ed dosage of Easycarbo? If so, would 2ml/day be more like it? Thanks again all for the replies :)

Staurogyne - Help ID this deficiency?

Hi all (first post!) :D I've been running a low-tech 12 gallon 24*12*12 tank for a few months now, and all is going well except the Staurogyne Repens, which is showing signs of some sort of deficiency. I'm dosing EasyCarbo and ProFito as per the dosage instructions (so 1ml per day carbo, 5ml...
