    Ok ....the BBA is starting to go lighter in colour and some bits are going pink so the easy carbo is working :thumbup: A lack of water changes and not enough filter maintenance is the cause in my case , so its my own fault :oops:

    This is just a guess / thought, but isn,t the ph very low at 6.1 Mike ? we live near each other and both have ultra soft water . My kh is just about 1 from the tap and ph is 7 ish . I,ve only had mine a few months but they seem to be doing ok touch wood .

    There utter pants ! They spend all day looking at the larger shrimps and looking for shrimplets in the java moss :thumbdown: They seem to scare the bigger ones and they dart off :( They will be bagged up and taken to the LFS over the weekend .

    I seem to have sorted it , its 90 % better this morning :thumbup: Even though i had only cleaned the external filter a few days earlier it was filthy with brown stained water and fines . The new additions must have rasped away all the softer outer wood as i thought and over loaded the filter...

    Inexpensive Black Sand?

    I,ve useing the unipac black sand , its not jet black but more of a dark grey but looks the dogs . I used it years ago aswell and it kept its colour and i find it easy to clean .
