Just an update, one new canister has now gone within a week. No idea how, tested for leaks and cant identify any. Maybe the reg is buggered. :(

Updating as my next canister is also running out - Ive been running at about 2bps. How long have the canisters lasted for others? Can only imagine it's leaking before the bubble counter but I cannot identify where!

Think they are even cheaper in bulk aswell - did you see how many they had? Been meaning to pick some up but been replanting first.

Would anyone recommend a particular airstone for very fine air bubbles? I've heard wood is decent for this. I'm after one for a Fluval Edge 23L - it has a glass top so the bubbles would be trapped under the glass, unless the airstone is placed under the access hole (so must be smaller than...

I used a spray bottle to apply it - couldn't find any leaks. I'm thinking I may have used a large quantity at the beginning when I was testing equipment etc. Will see how long this canister lasts.

Thanks very much - I'll grab an airpump and see how things go. Agreed I'll definitely use FE for my next build, thought I'd go with the disposable welding ones for this first nano tank.

Resurrecting this as I've noticed my otos have a very fast breathing rate, wondered if this could be co2 related. The surface agitation in this tank is pretty poor - would adding an air pump only at night make any difference (through the day aswell?) or do you think co2 will be affected too much?

Been using this setup for a few months now, working great. However bit concerned as one of the canisters only lasted 1-2 months, on my 23L tank at low bps. I'm guessing it's been leaking somewhere (into bedroom!) along the line, but tested with soapy water and no luck.

My ottos never seem to be interested in veg - the shrimp however swarm it. By the time it's been in the tank for a while/gone mushy the shrimp have already demolished it. Should I try leaving a piece of cucumber in constantly (replace it every day)? Was worried about pollution since it's a 23L...

I mean the chilli rasboras! Wondering if I need to pick up any particular food for them or if they'd be happy with regular flake food.

Which shop do you think is the best in the Reading area? The Winnersh Maidenhead Aquatics is my closest but the stocking seems pretty dissapointing. My heater packed in the same weekend so getting some next weekend instead - probably quite lucky as I only have shrimp/otos in it at the moment...

Mine is 300mg/l. I have reduced my co2 slightly and I'm noticing less deaths, not sure if this is coincidence though (could be dying in hidden areas). The co2 was around 30ppm so didn't think this was too high?

Its a HOB Aquaclear - I don't think so, I've done water checks after every death and they are OK. I think it may be a molting problem as mentioned since I see a lot less sheddings than when I first got the shrimp (although this may just be they eat them quicker since there are more). Or...

Anyone have any advice for weaning ottos onto vegetables and such? I've tried cucumber, courgette and algae tablets and they are not interested. They are not starving (bellies appear quite full) so I'm assuming there is enough algae/biofilm for them.

Just found a juvenile dead upside down as the others - so I'm guessing this possibly an infection as mentioned. Any tips on identifying the problem/treating it? I cannot see any signs of fungal infection on them, co2 is stable using a dropchecker. Not too sure!

Just noticed another death, this time a female with eggs developing in the saddle. Is this possibly an infection? None of the males/young are dying (well from what I can notice but I can see alot of the tank). Have contacted water board so will see what they say.

Ahhh - my tap water has nitrates of 80 (according to the API test which I've heard is a bit fiddly when it comes to measuring nitrates, unless I am doing it wrong). Is there much else I can do without using distilled/RO water?

Yes weekly 30% water changes, but these were not just before deaths - there has been no other change to the water other than those.

Bumping as another heavily pregnant death today - anyone have any experience of this? This is after stopping Easycarbo dosage, not sure what it could be.

Looking for a background plant to use for a 23L Fluval Edge - with co2/ferts. Interested in Green Rotala but I'm assuming the height will mean I will have to trim it very frequently?

Does it tend to grow towards the light dramatically? Since the lighting on this tank is mostly focused on the centre/back, concerned that the wall on the left/right edges wont form a wall and just grow towards the middle. I have co2 for this now so should help!

Recently setup pressurised CO2 using welding canisters - I have no solenoid and I'm wondering if it will be alright to leave the CO2 on constantly (overnight when no lights are on). Thanks for the input - I think I'm going to give flame moss or xmas moss a shot with addition of co2. Out of interest how do you think he managed to get the flame moss to grow like that in the pics I linked? It doesn't look like he used a wall? (unless I'm missing it!)

Tested KH and GH of the tap water - 13 and 16! I assume shrimp aren't going to be able to breed/survive in that hardness? Will mixing 50% RO water be pretty effective at bringing it down?

Trying to carpet mine in a Fluval Edge, with ferts/Easycarbo - since the lighting in this tank is pretty much spot lighting I get some quite varying versions of it. I.e. near the back of the tank/most intense light, very large leaves/taller plants. Near the front/corners, smaller leaves, less...

In that case I might go down the RO water mix route - my concern was if the Crystal Red (maybe A grade) would even survive. Would need a long acclimation time since I assume the majority of breeders keep them below 7.0.

Currently have a planted Fluval Edge with 3 otos, looking to start a shrimp colony. However I see most of the shrimps do best in a ph<7, whereas my tap water is hard and has a ph of 7.8-8.1 (getting a GH and KH test kit) Would any shrimp be able to breed in these conditions or even survive...

Are you dosing CO2/how much lighting?

Mine are more pale/translucent, only when they are very new though. Maybe take some pics for comparison?

Attempting to carpet with this too - harsh cutting back seems to be working well but the runners are growing higher than I'd like.

Highly recommend Eco Complete - probably have to buy on online though haven't seen it stocked often.

Fishless cycling is a good choice - planted I've found it speeds it up quite dramatically too.
