Sorry Gary, I'm only used to the Eheim classic filters. When you set them up, you just cut the tubing and put the two taps inline.
So if one of the taps broke on an Eheim classic. I could either shorten the tubing, or put in a small joiner to gerry rig it so I could get the canister back in...
I couldn't count the bubbles Alistair, it's a steady stream, it's really pouring in there. Here's a video clip, it's actually a little faster now than what the video shows -

Another update before another trim, prune and shape -
I don't seem to be able to keep this lotus down low. I remove sometimes 14-18 leaves every fortnight and it still wants to race for the surface -
Put 4 rams in my tank two weeks ago and they have DECIMATED my snail population...
You did ask for peoples opinions.
No dye on such an absorbent substance such as kitty litter (thats why it sells because its absorbent) is going to be permanent under water.
It's fine to add another rummy nose to your school. It will just immediately join the existing school.
The problem lies with quarantining the new addition so that it doesn't bring any disease in from the place of purchase and infect your healthy stock. The only way to do this, is to have a...
Always try an have an extra bottle in the future so this doesn't happen again. I know thats a cost, but it's a worthwhile purchase. Gas always seems to follow Murphys Law by running out on the eve of a 3-4 day public holiday.
Downoi - I "think" I like Downoi, I just can't shake the thought out of my head that it looks like something that should be in my vegetable garden and not my aquarium -
Alistair I love metal halide lighting. It's wonderful to know that any plant I put in the tank will cop enough light to grow.
8 hours for this tank has worked out perfectly. The only algae that I have is a very (though bloody persistant) low level amount of Green Spot Algae. I've never really...
One thing I didn't mention is that I keep the temperature of the tank at 30 degrees celcius (86 F)
It gets hot here and if I have a temp of 25c (77 F) I get daily large temp fluctuations so this tank has been humming along since 2007 at 30 degrees celcius.
I actually built a wooden surround for my 'spaceship' so as to inhibit it from lighting up the room to much. The unit is nearly 5 years old and I have no complaints -
How overgrown/thick do you let your stem and other plants get before trimming?
What about your Blyxa Japonica? It grows like a veritable weed in my tank and a single plant the size of a matchbox within a month or so turns into half the size of a basketball that can be then broken down into...
Re: 120 gallon 450l vision update with pics
Tank looks very nice, I reckon the ludwigia repens rubin in time will contrast fantastically with the green of the other plants.
Thanks for the feedback, great to get :)
I've always wished for the aquascaping skills that I see so many others posess. So this time I am really going to try and trim and cut back and shape as much as possible.
I've been very happy with the progress of this tank in such a short amount of time. Lots of hard pruning to shape it should hopefully stop it from becoming to overgrown.
Thanks for looking at my tank journal :)
Beefingup the original 2x Eheim 2217's up to 4 has been a big improvement in my tank. I'm using the fishtail returns on all of them. The water movement is now excellent in the tank and approaching 10x turnover and all my plants are swaying nicely. CO2 is circulating everywhere better now as...
On the 2nd of August 2011 I moved out some DW and did some harsh pruning and replanting as there were heaps of stems hitting the surface and trailing across, it's starting to bush out slowly and the basis of the jungle is in there somewhere :)
Ten days later the plants are starting to move...
I pulled down my planted tank that I set up in 2007 recently and made it an easy care fish only tank, gave all my plants away (the tank had become almost impenetrable wall to wall C.balansae) in preperation for some extended travelling around Australia for my wife and I. Well circumstances have...
Inert for me.
I just honestly don't see the sense in paying out lots of $$$ for "highly marketed" substrate.
I have always used inert and the last 5 years inert with EI and the results are outstanding. I couldn't improve upon it.
Sorry.....but I see these "soils' as the Cabbage Patch Dolls of...
Mix a small amount of KNO3 with an equal amount of sugar. Take it outside and touch a match to it. If it burns profusely, it is in fact KNO3 and not KH2PO4.
You will now have your powders sorted.
Wonderful tank and fantastic to see the use of inert gravel.
I honestly believe that people are paying exorbitant unnecessary amounts for "soils" with supposedly "magical" qualities.
My first batch of KNO3 was very white and after 5 years I'm coming to the end of that batch.
I recently bought another 5 kilos and it's an off white colour a most definate off white colour. I mixed a small quantity with some sugar and it burnt like what I would expect KN03 to burn like.
Why...
Plants use oxygen at night.
What else do they do in the hours of darkness?
Do they use iron thats in the WC?
Do they take up other ferts?
I'm interested in this. If anyone has any comments or links to something to read....I'd be much appreciative.
No damage to any plants since I moved my BN out of my main planted tank.
They're happy in their new quarters and I have put around 25-30 small pieces of driftwood into my koi pond and they are getting covered in luxurious amounts of algae and I'm rotating them through the BN tank. They clean...
It's amazing that your general duties officers aren't armed.
Between '84 and '95 we had 69 fatal police shootings across Australia and considering that we only have a population of 20 million thats pretty high.
In the last couple of years all our police forces across Australia have seen the...
It''s getting hard for me to understand this now.
Why aren't the cops cracking heads? Why haven't they taken control of the streets back? Do they have to operate with one hand tied behind their backs over there because of political correctness or something??
Surely if they were given the green...
Hi All,
I have made myself a DIY external CO2 reactor to replace an internal Dupla ladder type CO2 diffuser. I haven't used it as yet. Here is a photo of the reactor -
My question is:
I will be running this off an Eheim 2217 which has a rated flow of 1000lph.
Will this flow be to much...
Just wanted to ask when your plants are pearling and the O2 is running out of them and going to the surface. If you look through one of the longest ends of your tank, are the O2 bubbles going straight up or does your flow in your tank swirl them around?
Really appreciate the replies very much.
I have some thinking to do.
(Just have to say how much I'm enjoying this forum. I'm losing so much sleep because I'm reading it to the wee small hours in bed on my iPad, the knowledge here is fantastic - Thanks).
I'm confused about flow and turnover. I see the results that members here are getting (compared to other forums) with having higher flow and higher turnover rates in their tanks.
My tank is a 4x2x2 holding 450 litres (U.S 120g - IMP 100g) and currently for flow I have two (2) Eheim 2217's which...
Hi and thanks for the replies. Some details on my tank (rescaped one month ago)-
Tank: 4x2x2 10mm standard glass, braced tank.
Substrate: Plain gravel thats now over 4 years old and full of mulm, clay balls and Seachem root tabs.
Fertilizer regime is EI -
4.5 teaspoons of KNO3
3...
Does anyone have to run their CO2 this fast? I'm using a Dupla Reaktor 400 and I run my CO2 for 11 hours at that speed.
Is this an abnormal amount of CO2 to have to use?
Is hardscaping pointless sometimes? Do we get too hung up initially on hardscaping a tank?
I see so many posts on plant forums of people rescaping and spending hours and hours on their hardscapes tweaking them, to in their own eyes, perfection. Yes they do look great, but later photos of the...
Thanks for the reply.
I'm pretty sure that my Bristlenose is damaging my newly emerging leaves of my swords.
I think I may catch it tonight with a torch and move it to another tank, then in a month or so I will know if it's the culprit.
