Building services engineer - spend most of my time nowadays advising on low and zero carbon homes and how to integrate renewable technologies into buildings.
I had a 53 Laguna, got about 55MPG combined until it blew up after 85,000 miles (i'm so glad it was a company car!).
The new Ford Mondeo's are supposed to be good MPG wise.
Thats quite interesting, I was using it about five years ago, got it from my LFS but they haven't stocked it since! Where are people getting it from now and for how much? I might try it again.
Akadema is a great substrate, I had a 500 litre set up a few years ago with Akadema, plants really did flourish - also mixed some laterite in with it as I was using mostly Ech. species.
I would encourage people to give it a go if they can get hold of it.
Good article Aaron,
You forgot to mention mercury vapour lighting though! Slightly Cheaper alternative to MH. Geissemann do a great 80/125 W fitting thats perfect for corner tanks. I had one on my Trigon 190 - George suggested it when I posted a Question on PFK - great fitting with good levels...
Just ordered some plants from TGM (some Blyxa and glosso), came the next day and were very good quality - they even threw in a couple more blyxa as they thought the ones they had in were a bit small.
Top class quality and top class service.
The Peter Hiscock Book suggested above is excellent.
A couple of very good books in my opinion are Christel Kasselmann's 'Aquarium Plants' and 'How to set up a planted aquarium'. The second is good for beginners.
