    Wood positioning thoughts.

Can't make my mind up. Only plants I am putting in is a carpet of Sag Subulata and some java moss for the wood. I'm wondering whether to put the larger chunks to the left and scale down as it goes to the right with a clear carpet end - or whether to use the big lump as a centre point? Tank...

Massive shout out for Scaped Nature in Norwich

I went in today, lined a few large pieces of Redmoor up that weren't priced at said "How much"? I was expecting £200 + but got away with about half of that - and they were stunning pieces. To be honest I was convinced that I wouldn't be able to find anything decent enough for what I needed so...

Yes they were wet. I have a couple of FX6's so the though of dismantling them and scrubbing every bit leaves me somewhat cold!

    Snails

I am going to use new substrate - but here is the crazy thing. Before filling last week the tank was bone dry for a month but since filling with tap water I have now got snails, the only explanation is that the snails were in the filter - which thinking about it means I need to put a load of...

    Snails

I've just filled an 8ft tank I bought from another poster purely to check everything is working ok, the plan is to empty it again and then add substrate, wood etc. Today I have noticed a load of snails so I guess I have two options and I wonder what people think is best. 1/ whack a whole bottle...

    Takashi Amano

A while back - may even be a few years - there were some pictures on here of some amazing Takashi scapes. The thing is, the scapes were actually done in thimble sized glass tubs but on first view you thought they were full sized aquariums. Anyhow, I have lost all the pics and links, does...

    Dark Fissidens Mountains

Another thing. I plan on giving this a bash, do you thing one could grow carpet plants emerged at the same time as the moss venture?

    That's brilliant. Thanks

    RO water

Low PH and not chemically induced?
  15. L

    Dark Fissidens Mountains

I think that's amazing. I have some questions for those ITK Could this work without CO2? How did you attached the moss? For the dry start you just had wet substrate and that kept everything moist? What the hell is the yoghurt for?

    RO water

Thanks for the reply, interesting about the RO as I assumed it would help the plants - even if 50% RO

    RO water

Hi Just wondered what the opinion was with using RO water for a new set up (and do the buffers work without introducing CO2 - as I wasn't planning on using CO2 Thanks

    Budget starter packs

Yes I know these are probably frowned upon but any advice appreciated on those small sub £30 packs? Was thinking of getting one for my daughters 100l aquarium and was going to go for the TMC Aquagro listed here https://www.seapets.co.uk/searchresults?keyword=co2 Any good? I appreciate it...

    removing thread algae from bogwood

Thanks again to you both. The bogwood has been removed and is now dry so I guess I'll put some of the stuff in a plant mister, spray it, leave it for a while and then rinse overnight.

    Topping cat litter

I am setting up a new tank for my Daughter and I was also going to use cat litter. Does cat litter always need topping off and if so is there anything better than gravel? Finally, how many cm of cat litter should I use? Thanks

    removing thread algae from bogwood

Hi chaps Advice welcome Have been told to dunk bogwood in 10% bleach solution but am a bit nervous about this. If the info is correct how long should I soak it and how long to then keep it in fresh water before putting back in aquarium. Thanks

Substrate for best results in non Co2 tank

Substrate for best results in non Co2 tank

Hi chaps Been reading the posts on substrates and have got myself in more of a spin. Changing from gravel to a substrate more ideal for plant growth and need advice. For ease of use had decided on Caribsea but was put off it by a couple of people so wanted to gauge opinions on here as I only...

    Acrylic tank

Hi there I am about to have an acrylic made 113 x 48 x 70. The guy who will be making it has been doing it for over 20 years and he is going to make it in 12mm. There is likely to be a small rim so not sure how much that effects things. Maybe a good idea to get the guy I will be using to give...

    Lighting a 30" tall tank

Well the LED system linked in my O/P is quite cheap but I am unsure if really suitable for plants, I appreciate what you are saying about the importance of getting the flow correct on the Co2 but the lighting represents the largest outlay so I need to make the correct purchase. I would have...

    Lighting a 30" tall tank

Well the plan is to use a FE with a 2000 lph external. For the CO2 I was either going to introduce it via the filter inlet or alternatively blast it around via a seperate internal pump. Back to the lighting I think I would like to stay clear of halides if possible, are the LED lights a non...

    Where to buy in Holland?

After (not much) consideration I have decided that I would rather travel from Ipswich to Holland rather than Wrexham for my initial plant purchases. Now I am sure Wrexham has its charm but I think Holland edges it and it is also nearer to Ipswich than Wrexham - and the Dutch speak better...

If anyone is ever in Hong Kong.........

You should consider it, maybe as a group of UKAPS members. The main downside with HK though is that beer prices are through the roof! You can also get return to Singapore from HK with Tiger Airlines for just over £120 inc luggage If you visit a fish farm in Singapore email them beforehand and...

why do my fish have long poo?

most dried foods contain binders to keep them together when they submerge, lay off the food for 2 or 3 days then give them live food, preferably artemia - if difficult use frozen for a while.
  39. L

no way. . . . could it be?

I presume the fish is brown bread now? Personally I think it is disgusting. If the guy was really that stupid I think a name and shame could be in order.

If anyone is ever in Hong Kong.........

In HK business types are clustered so shopping is easy. Jaffe Rd is full of bathrooms, Happy Valley area is full of lighting, Lockhart (part of it) is full of hooker bars etc etc God I miss the place!
  41. L

If anyone is ever in Hong Kong.........

No I haven't done any fishy visiting apart from the area previously mentioned. Next time I go I'll spend an extra day there. I have a good friend in HK that I know from when we were both in the industry in UK so I'll get him to take me around as he still dabbles in exporting a few fish to UK.
  42. L

If anyone is ever in Hong Kong.........

I'll have a look next time I go. One good turn deserves another - If you want a friendly pub without streams of tourists try The Junk Pub on Jaffe Rd. If you want a 24 hour pub with good atmosphere and not full of drunk Aussies try The Bridge on Lockhart. You may of course already know these

What to buy and where in China

All I've seen in China is little pet shops with monster sized Gouramis in tiny tanks. In Hong Kong (Kowloon) they have a livestock market and Tung Choi Street has literally 100's of aquarium shops. Loads of everything and loads of plants.

After a lifelong absence I've got the bug again - advice req

Greetings Kept aquariums as a kid before entering into the trade in the 80's where I spent many years before becoming fed up with it all. Anyway, just set up a little aquarium for my (grown up) daughter and have got the bug again. I have decided to get a 48 x 20 x 30 (inches) aquarium...
