    Eriocaulon cinereum

Thanks everybody, could this plant be a seasonal offering? As has been sugested, most on line sources appear to be out of stock. I found a "pot plant" yesterday that looks for all the world like Erio, it is described as Syngonanthus Mikado. I am unsure if this plant will tolerate immersion.

Arcadia Jungle Dawn 40w LED spot

Can anyone offer comparisons twixt the little Arcadia 40w spot and the smaller Kessil offerings? I notice that the fan is quieter on the Arcadia ( but i don't know if it stays that way!) I was recommended the Arcadia by a reptile enthusiast, but Arcadia appear to be half hearted in suggesting...

Arcadia Jungle Dawn 40w LED spot

Thanks, I am using the lamp in glasshouse to grow a light hungry floating Ludwigia. The blurb from Arcadia suggests that the lamp produces 2883 PAR at 100mm or 1620 at 200mm (I am using it suspended about 2500mm above a heated tub containing the plant). I guess that I should protect it from the...

Arcadia Jungle Dawn 40w LED spot

Does anybody use this little spotlight? It was suggested to me by a reptile enthusiast who used it for growing plants in a Viv. It appears to be able to satisfy a light hungry floater that I have been trying to grow for years with little success. I am wondering, is it likely to provide...

    Overwintering Ludwigia sedioides

I have recently tried this plant under a little 40w Arcadia daylight LED spotlight. It appears to grow very well. The real test will be at the end of the year, maybe I will manage to over winter it.

    Overwintering Ludwigia sedioides

Such a pity that a lovely floating plant appears to not be, "doable". it seems so counter intuitive when other plants from the same areas of south America can be easily grown in temperate Europe with a bit of help. Surely, somebody has mastered the requirements of this plant!

    Overwintering Ludwigia sedioides

I have found this to be an exasperating plant, because I have not been able to get it through a winter in the UK. My last and best effort, saw it fade away in early February. It did best in a heated tub in the greenhouse with a supplementary mercury vapour spotlight giving a full twelve hours of...

    Overwintering Ludwigia sedioides

Has anybody managed to overwinter this plant in the UK? Does anybody know the set of conditions that this plant requires to grow well in the UK? Thanks in advance for any information that anybody can give me. Phill.

    Ludwigia sedoides

I think it's a truly striking plant. it needs a lot of light, heat and ferts. I am unsure as to why it's so seldom imported. It is definitely brittle, to survive I think it needs to be in an inflated bag or a rigid plastic packaging (doesn't seem impossible to me) Does anybody know where I can...

    Ludwigia sedoides

Frosties, do you know why it gets so damaged in transport? is it physical damage such as crushing?, or is it chilling? or lack of light for a few days? The samples that I have received appeared to be very compressed, but I hope that it can regenerate from the growing tip. Is there any way that...

    Ludwigia sedoides

Well, it appears that very few (only one that I could find) plant vendors are aware of, or willing to import this plant. It does not travel well being somewhat brittle. I am more than impressed by the service from http://www.aquarium-gardening.com , the guy being willing to go the extra mile to...

    Ludwigia sedoides

Thanks, it appears that this is not an easy plant for a temperate climate, I am getting reports from people who have lost it in glasshouses in the UK. I saw it growing in a heated lilly pool at a major botanical facility in the UK and I was struck by the geometrical beauty of the floating...

Breeding Celestial Pearl Danio (Danio margaritatus)

Has anybody ideas as to why this plant does not appear to be available? or where it may be available from? Would it be possible to obtain it from a Botanical collection?

can any of the popular external filters be backflushed?

Do any of the external filters have a conveniently useable means of draining water in a reverse flow mode to "flush" the filter?, as opposed to dismantling and rinsing

    Filter materials

I think the Altum situation is down to the trade being unwilling or unable to give these fish the consideration necessary to overcome the insults of import. Excellent tank bred fish are available, but at a higher price than the wild fish (but vastly cheaper if you factor in the ridiculous...
