What size and type CO2 cylinder and where to get them in South Wales?

There’s a seller of refurbished fire extinguishers on Facebook marketplace - I got two delivered for £35 a few months back. I get mine refilled at Gas Link Wales in Pontyclun-I think it’s around £5 for a 2kg FE.

    Lots of Algae Problems

Hi all Thanks very much for all the helpful replies. So I've done some maintenance on the tank this last week - cleaned both filters, vacuumed the gravel and done a 25% water change every day. I've also figured out how to hook up my HMA filter to the shower so I can do larger water changes...

    Lots of Algae Problems

Hi all As a previous member, I've not been on here for some time because I had to give up all of my tanks while I moved house a few times. I'm now back on my feet and I purchased this 6' x 2' x 2' tank in January 2017. I planted it and ran it without fish for around 6 months whilst the plants...

    Best reactor for 500l tank?

I'm using two AM100's in a 450 litre tank and think they're brill. I initially used a AM100 on one side and an UP inline diffuser on the other - soon had to ditch the UP due to the bubbles. There is a faint trickline noise from both the AM100's, but I don't hear them when shut inside the cabinet.

Please could someone check EI dosing

Oh drat! Then why am I dosing 6g of potassium phosphate and 60g of potassium sulphate? Brill, I'll add some Ca. The rotalabutterfly calculator suggests I add 23g of CaSO4, which will give 15ppm of Calcium and raise the GH by 2dkh. This seems like a lot to me? I'll also add some potassium...

Please could someone check EI dosing

Thanks both for the advice! I've used the rotalabutterfly link to calculate my dosing - so easy! I think I may switch to dry dosing actually - measure doses into little pots - will be so much easier. Ian, I switched to RO water years ago after I started having issues with livestock, and this...

Please could someone check EI dosing

Hi all It's been a really long time since I posted here - I've been out of the hobby for a good few years. It's so good to be back :) I was lucky enough to pick up a display model Aqua Oak 450l systemised tank and cabinet with a damaged tank, so they replaced the tank with an opti-white...

Do I go for T5 or LED lighting for deep tank?

Hi all Well, it's been a while since I've posted here - I've taken some time out of the planted tank scene due to a house move and renovations. These are finally finished, so I've finally been able to get a tidy sized tank. I finally settled on a Maidenhead Aquatics Aqua Oak tank, with...

Random shrimp deaths in mature tank

I experienced something like this - in my nano tank, shrimps stopped becoming berried and seemed to die off, of natural causes, one by one until the colony had completely died off. How long can you travel for with CRS in a bag for?

Well, I had some shrimp shipped over from America a few years back - all 25 of them survived for about 2 days in a fairly small bag, so I would have thought 2 hours will be fine. Make sure there's some moss or plant for them to cling to though.

Hi Gfish The plants you got were from me. So I'm also now feeling a tad disgruntled. I am dissapointed that you are not happy with the condition of the plants - I would not say that the moss is at all affected by BBA and the Windelov only very slightly. This will not 'spread' and affect your...

Recommendation for a cold water goldfish

Sounds good. If you already have some of those plants, then like you say, no harm in seeing how they go. Maybe if the plants go in soon, the temperature difference won't be too big, so they won't have to adjust now. The anubias on the egg-crate sounds interesting! I don't know if the Anubias...

Another tedious stocking question - 20 litre Arctank

I've got both - for me they are equally as good. I've had the Arcadia for approximately 7 years and it hasn't failed, I've had the Hagen Glo about 2 years and it's been brilliant. For me, the Arcadia is more aesthetically pleasing, but come with the price tag too.

    fluval 4+ as co2 diffuser ?

To be honest, that's the method I use in one of my tanks - it's attached to 2 yeast co2 systems. The bubbles are pretty big, so obviously it's not the most efficient way of diffusing co2, but I find it turns my drop checker an adaquate colour, so I hesitate to increase the efficiency in this...

    breaking up dragon stone, how?

I tried throwing mine, but I ended up breaking stuff in my parents garage, rather than the rock. So I reverted to a hammer - I covered it with a carrier bag so that all the pieces stayed in the carrier bag rather than flying off everywhere (and probably breaking more stuff! lol).

Also, Vallis reacts badly to Flourish Excel and other types of liquid carbon, so that would explain that one melting. Just thought I'd add my 2p worth - I've got a 60 x 60 x 30H cm tank and I've also got a 75 x 35 x 45H cm. IMO, the 45cm height is easier to scape because you're not so limited with things like stem plants. It's much easier to do the more traditional scape. However, adding hardscape or some...

My most recent tank is a 60w x 60d x 37h cm - lush! It's definately the easiest tank I've ever scaped. It has huge potential for emergent plants or hardscape. I think it's quite restrictive on stem plants though-they would look a bit strange due to the lack of height, and they do tend to grow...
