I'm stripping my tank down (see my other post on the "Fish" forum) so looking to rehome my remaining shrimp. Drop me a message to discuss.

Do I make it up at 1 tsp per 500ml as with the APFUK trace elements?

Thanks all. I've ordered a kilo of this stuff, although goodness knows how long it will take to use it!!

EI Dosing - substitute for Chelated Trace Elements

Hi all, I use EI dosing - separate macro and micro - which seems to work well enough. Unfortunately I've run out of dry chelated trace elements, and there seems to be no availability at the moment. Does anyone know of something I can use instead? I was considering Tropica Premium Fertiliser...

    Free Cherry Shrimp - Nottingham

I'm looking to get rid of a few dozen more black cherry shrimp if anybody would like some - collection only. I'm based in West Bridgford, Nottingham.

    Free Cherry Shrimp - Nottingham

Cool. I've noticed that the stripeys are a good deal bigger than the other cherries. I've got a few red/white stripeys - are they hybrids of my red cherries and my brown cardina or what?!

    Free Cherry Shrimp - Nottingham

Oh really? I definitely only bought three different kinds (blue, red, and brown/white), and they were sold as cherries. Anyway they have been happily cross-breeding for a couple of years, I even have some all white and some red/white striped ones now. One day I would like to try to breed some...

    Free Cherry Shrimp - Nottingham

Hi, A couple of years about I bought about twenty cherry shrimp - a mixture of red, blue and brown/white striped. I now have at least a couple of hundred (difficult to count them!) so I'm looking to rehome some of them. They are mostly black (no idea why). If anyone would like to take some...

USB interface for Eheim Pro3e 2078

You're welcome. Yeah I'm really disappointed with the software, it constantly hangs and crashes and obviously wasn't tested at all. The worse part is you have to pay through the nose for a special USB lead which you use once and then discover is next to useless! I've recently been...

    Juwel Vision 260

Quick update as I haven't posted one for ages. The sand path became too much of a pain to maintain as the Amazonia is so light is was constantly blowing onto the sand (or being moved there by the shrimps), so I gave up and let the carpet of micranthemum monte carlo take over. The current is...

USB interface for Eheim Pro3e 2078

Here you go. If you're looking at the front of the filter, the socket is on the left hand side, at the back, just above the grey release clasp. It's covered by a little black cap which might be why you're struggling to find it! Hope this helps.

USB interface for Eheim Pro3e 2078

Did you solve this Madhav? I've previously had it working on my 2078 and I'm doing my monthly filter clean on Monday so I can take some photos of the location of the input socket if you like? The filter is in a cabinet so I can't really take any photos of it until then - the socket is...

    Eheim 3e 700 - poor flow rate

I've got the 3e 600T which is also rated at 1850lph. I agree that the flow rate isn't amazing. You may already know this, but the maximum flow rate in "automatic" mode (in which the filter automatically increases flow to compensate for the media becoming blocked) is less than the maximum flow...

    Juwel heliolux

I've just upgraded my Vision 260 to these, only had them a couple of weeks but really pleased so far. The light intensity doesn't seem that much different from the standard T5s, but the sunrise/sunset/moonlight options available using the controller are brilliant. With the T5s I had a six-hour...

    Eheim ControlCenter

Hi all, Bit of a long shot but does anybody have an old version of the Eheim ControlCenter software for controlling/monitoring their electronic filters? I splashed out on the special USB wire you need and excitedly downloaded the software only to find that it bears no resemblance to, and seems...

    Juwel Vision 260

I've been meaning to post an update on this setup for ages but it's taken a while to get around to it! Anyway, I had a lot of teething problems with the tank. Difficulties getting the flow and CO2 distribution right (a common problem with bow-front tanks I now realise), a bacterial bloom from...

    Smart Home Kit

I'm not sure whether it meets the OP's requirements but I've recently splashed out on one of these: https://energenie4u.co.uk/catalogue/product/MIHO037 It's a wireless gateway which you connect to your wifi router, and comes with two plug-in adapters. I got it for £95 on Amazon. You use...

    CO2 Refills...

Nottingham folk, I've recently started getting my refills at MF Safety in Beeston. A bit pricey - £18.30 for a 2kg - and they have to send it away, but it was done in a few days and the service is good and friendly. FSE Fire Systems on Wilford Industrial Estate, where I used to go, were a pain...

    Diffuser Cleaning

Thanks, yes I read those posts but I couldn't find what I was looking for, i.e. the rationale behind using bleach in the first place. I thought maybe there was ome chemical reason but I can't find any mention of anything like that so I guess it is for killing algae, diatoms etc. I'll try...

    Diffuser Cleaning

I've got an Up Aqua inline diffuser which I think is dirty/clogged, as the bubble rate dropped alarmingly until I swapped the ceramic for a spare. Reading around it seems the conventional wisdom is to soak in bleach and then wash with vinegar. The vinegar bit I can understand (dissolves any...

    Reduced Filter Flow At Night

Thanks Ian! Yes I've heard that, but my thinking is that I should be OK as I do daily EI dosing. My understanding of EI dosing is that every day we dump in more ferts than the plants can use in a day, which is why a big weekly water change is needed. So even if my UV steriliser destroys all...

    Reduced Filter Flow At Night

Thanks for your contributions. I've sacked this idea off for a number of reasons, the main one being that all the settings etc. get reset anyway when you turn the filter off at the mains (which I do most days to feed the fish!) I think I will just manually dial down the flow and turn the UV...

    Reduced Filter Flow At Night

Hi folks, I'm running an Eheim 2178 on a Juwel Vision 260 tank. It has a 12-hour bio function which enables you to set two different flow rates, alternating every 12 hours. I've set it up to to run at maximum flow during the day (to distribute nutrients and CO2) and minimum flow at night (to...

    Juwel Vision 260

Thanks all. Funnily enough I started off using the JBL Proflora Direct diffuser but the few bubbles it produced were quite large and I got the feeling that they were just going to the top of the water and straight back into the air, so I switched to the Up Aqua which produces a fine mist...

    Juwel Vision 260

Hi all, I've posted on here occasionally before but I've just set up a new tank so I thought I'd take the opportunity to introduce myself properly and start a journal, as much as a record for myself as anything else. I kept fish in my teens, starting with the classic two shubunkins in a bowl...

    Flow visualisation

Thanks Iain. Yes after reading a lot of posts on here I've been thinking of moving the powerheads to point towards the front too. The problem is I have an internal background which, although a "slimline", is up to an inch thick so the magnets used to fix the powerheads are useless. I could...

    Flow visualisation

Hi folks, I've just set up my new planted Juwel Vision 260. I have an Eheim 2178 thermofilter feeding a spraybar the length of the tank, which points at the front of the tank as mentioned in a few threads on here. This is augmented by two Hydor Koralia 1600s which come on when the lights come...

Vision 250 - Eheim Thermofilter Recommendations?

Wisey, thanks for the tips. I hadn't realised that the rated flow was unachievable even on max output. Sounds like a bit of a swizz! What size is your tank just out of interest?

Vision 250 - Eheim Thermofilter Recommendations?

Hi all, I've decided to treat myself to a Vision 260 aquarium and I'm looking for a compatible Eheim thermofilter. Does anyone have any recommendations? I've been looking at the 2173 and 2373 which are rated for 180-350 litre aquaria. Is 1050 lph enough flow? I'll be supplementing the...

Juwel Vision 260 - lower water level

Thanks all, yes I'd considered the filter issue. I was planning on replacing it for an external - always been happy with the filter on my Rio 125 but it does take up a lot of room. I was generally more interested in whether people have successfully run tanks with a lower water level; whether...

Juwel Vision 260 - lower water level

Thanks for the feedback. I love the bow-front but as I say the Vision is a bit too tall. Are there any companies which do custom made bow-front aquaria?

Juwel Vision 260 - lower water level

Hi, I'm considering upgrading from a Rio 125 to a Vision 260 as it's the right size for the space I have, but I find the proportions a bit wrong (I prefer tanks at least twice as long as they are tall). One solution I was considering is to run the tank with the water level about 10cm lower...
