Tank testing done today. No surprises and everything seems stable. GH and KH both up to 6 which is somewhere I'm happy with. New water change tank arrived last week so I've got 80Lt + of volume there. I've set it to add 2.5it per day, which is roughly 8/10% WC per week after evaporation...

so my first 3 week trip away was a successful in that nothing melted, nothing died. We had a little issue, with the weir was letting water under the plastic, meaning it was forcing water up through the sand behind the waterfall. No water was coming over the waterfall. There was a dusting of...

does liquid carbon actually do what it says or is it not worth the money?

The ferts were changed about 4 weeks after starting to see the growth spurt, as a result in the increase demand. But I do agree, often it's difficult to pinpoint one factor and separate the cause and effect

does liquid carbon actually do what it says or is it not worth the money?

I'd counter that from my experience using Easy Carbo made a marked improvement to the growth of most things in my last tank. The system was running for about 4 months when I started dosing, daily with a dosing pump. Within weeks there was a marked improvement in growth, my grassbed literally...

Has anyone invented a way to drip feed live foods whilst away?

The only issue I can see with live food is distribution in the liquid. Liquid carbon, bicarb and ferts mix well, as long as you can keep it mixed well you should be fine
  17. C

Has anyone invented a way to drip feed live foods whilst away?

I use one for constant water changes, I change about 5% per day. I have a 3 channel doser for ferts, liquid carbon and bicarb

Little bit of progress today. Few deliveries. Potted the hairgrass to grow out a bit until things are ready. All dosing lines and electrics sorted, light brackets in. Fake ivy in place to cover everything. Tonight's plan, make some mock up's of the rock walls.

    Fluval Plant 3.0 Hanging Height

i lowered mine down until there was no light spill on the wall. if you can get it down that far then light hitting the internal glass will mostly reflect back into the tank. At this point you are wasting about 25% of your light onto the wall and into the room.

Does 20mg/l test dropper liquid test for 20ppm?

RO/Pure water weighs 1000g/l so 1mg/l is a thousandth of a thousandth, so 1 millionth. 20mg/l therefore will be 20 parts per million.

    Alternative lighting regime

In marine tanks I always ran light over the sump to grow algae on the opposite cycle to the tank as the oxygenation etc then balances the PH. Also you don't want your sump competing with your display for CO2
  62. C

    Would this tank design work?

would be interesting to see. Were you meaning a Sand/gravel completely built up glass to glass and breaking the surface?
  63. C

    Purigen

I'll be honest, i used the Tesco 19p thin bleach with prime for about 6 years on my marine tank and it would always go back to white after 12/24 hours. I'd just rinse and soak in a strong prime solution after then back in the sump.
  64. C

    Why we clean media?

I do believe that alot of keepers long term success, especially fighting algae, comes down to lack of attention to cleaning filters. Things aren't looking good, ammonia readings are still good so it can't be the filter, so we struggle to figure out what it is. We don't realise that a poorly...

    Raising Amano Larvae

Not a swing arm type though, they are impossible to clean properly so end up getting dirty and not working properly. The glass floating ones are easy to clean and results are infinitely repeatable.
