    General shrimp questions

So at night when your plants are using oxygen and not producing it? It's not right keeping this many fish in a 15ltr, don't expect to get any other response off the users in here. We all try and take great care of our fish and shrimp and overcrowding is something a lot of us try and avoid!

    Household GU10 LED lighting

Do you know what kelvin they are? In my experience LEDs have always trumped t5's they don't look as bright to the human eye but the par and directed light output means plant growth should be a lot higher than with t5's In this respect you can't really trust your eyes, brighter to you isn't...

Where to get CO2 Cannisters and Refills

Total cost was £22, every time you take it in they do a leak check and service on the bottle then fill it. They are called OTEAC I won't be using them again their staff even couldn't understand why he'd priced it do high, I suspect they didn't want my business from the attitude the manager was...

Whats this algae and how do I rid of it?

The sponges are your first port of call in the filter you'll always get bacteria growing there in large quantities, your tank has no fish thus the ammonia will be small and due to organic breakdown amongst other things. Probably enough for the sponges to convert but not for a decent amount to...

Cost me £18 with vat ontop of that to get a 500g refill... Only 1 company offering it here in Aberdeen utter crap! I went in all 3 fish shops in Aberdeen and the only one who knew about co2 tried to convince me to use a DIY yeast setup lmao!!! The only real aquarium around here still sells...

    TMC Aquaray 8 way controller

No all the channels are dimmable mate! Just the first 6 go on one timer with one sunrise and sunset. And the other two channels run in another timer. For instance I have 4 lights coming on at 10am that turn up from 0% to 100% over a 2 hour period turning off at 8pm over two hours (channel 1)...
  16. J

Whats this algae and how do I rid of it?

Yes, just use tank water de-chlorinating after you've bathed the filter in chlorine does nothing :) I wouldn't worry about the filter boosting products you have everything you need in your tank already you just need to let it move to the right place. Let it run for a week and then remove as...
  17. J

Whats this algae and how do I rid of it?

That sounds like your most likely problem right there mate, running the sponges under water is killing the good bacteria and the sponges are what converts the waste. By doing this the bacteria are choosing to live in your tank and not your filter. I'm really surprised how many people jump...

    Xmas Moss growing "leggy"

In the end I ramped my lighting up to 100% to stop the whining it's coloured up a few of my broms which I'm happy about but I still have to deal with 4 hours of whining from the light units a day, still I don't notice it much anymore unless I'm trying to get a very early night!

  33. J

GroBeam 600 - High Pitched Noise...

From what he said its built into ALL new light products as there was an issue with the dimming function that caused spikes in the current, this in turn was killing the first diode in the circuit. Chance's are if yours doesn't make the noise it's probably just an old version. I like having the...

GroBeam 600 - High Pitched Noise...

I spoke to Giles at TMC. Very nice and helpful guy he explained to me that to fix the 5th diode failing they had to install an extra component that does indeed output a hi-pitched noise. It only does this when its ramping up or down the light's so when going from 1%-99% it makes the noise... As...

  63. J

    P@H/Coopet Nano cube

The easy way to "fix" it is to seal the top hole where the power cable goes, and seal the slider that increases and decreases the power. Make sure the slider is locked in the max flow before you seal it otherwise it barely moves water. Seriously guys shame on you for not noticing this the...

    Green aphids

It's true that juvenile ladybirds do not fly but they eat exactly the same thing as their adult counterparts. Usually consisting of spider mites, aphids and mealy bugs. Both hoverfly larvae and ladybird larva would be ideal for solving your problem, both are great to watch as I used to keep...

    120cm. Green Neons Fly

120cm. Nearly given up. I dose 30ml in my 100cm 200ltr tank dosing 5ml is prob the main reason your getting algae. Especially with pressurised co2 and I'm assuming good lighting which all lead to increased nutrient uptake. I'm sure someone else will pop over and confirm my suspicions soon :)
  73. J

    Green aphids

Hmm ladybirds are great but they fly off, you want to go and look for Hoverfly Larvae ~ they look like this and don't fly. When they go hard they are just pupating and will emerge as a hoverfly (they look like bee's but don't sting) Amazing Flys.
