Cheers for the responses. I have had a search around on here and other forums, the same things generally pop up. 1. Copper in the water, usually via a medicine 2. Poor water quality, ammonia or nitrites 3. shrimp being hassled by fish 4. being introduced too quickly to a tank or into an...

Cherry shrimp dying one by one

Hi, I have a nano tank, 26 litres or so, about 6 months old. It is heavily planted with FE CO2 and TPN+ (1.5ml per day) added. I bought some cherry red shrimp a few months back, 8 of them, and one by one they have slowly died off. I cant put my finger on the problem. I do weekly 40% water...

help new external filter for 30l

I have a 26 litre tank, 30x30x30. Im currently using a Eheim 2213 and it is very silent, my light makes more noise than the filter. My only criticism is it seems a little underpowered really. I relaise it should cover the 10x flow rate rule that is supposedly ideal, but i dont think its...

Re: nelson's nano 2 Lovely looking tanks, 1 & 2. This gives me some great idea for a 12x10x10 i have. The resun filters out pipe, is that a mini spray bar type thing? Have you moved form EI to TPN+ yet? If so how is it going? any difference? Peter

    Juwel Rio 240 Lighting

You could set up a FE CO2 unit for about 100 quid, which would last 3-6 months before you need another 30 quid FE, but you would probably do more excel than this in a year, and the regulator would last years hopefuly. I decided to go this way on a nano tank, with the possibilty of using it on a...

    Wave regulator and solenid, faulty?

next to the leg razors! Back to topic, my reg/solenoid seems to be fine now, doesnt even give the occassional burst of loud noise it once did. Perhaps some water got in there, past the check valve, but has since dried out. I wouldnt consider trying to take it apart, for one it looks glued...

    carpeting plants and inert substrate

i had guessed this might have been the reason so i upgraded the filter to an eheim 2213 external, added lily pipes as the spray bar way too big for such a small tank. I have moved around the pipes to different locations, and upped the bubble rate for the co2. My drop checkes is always green...

    carpeting plants and inert substrate

I have been struggling with my first tank for a few months now. Its a nano 30 litre jobbie. I have FE CO2 running and dose 1.25ml of tropica plus every day with 1 week water changes of around 30-40%. I have anubias nana, java fern, java moss, blyxa japonica, hygrophila difformis, rotala sp...

I contacted the retailer and they said they had a few with the same problem, and i should send it back for an exchange. The turn around on this would have been about 2 weeks and i couldnt risk it as i had just planted my tank, so i put up with the noise and after 3 days, the noise suddenly...

Im pretty new to this so please can somebody help me with something i am unsure of. I run a pressurised FE CO2 system in my 30 litre nano tank, and am using a drop checker to check CO2 saturation. Until last week this solution changed from blue, when CO2 is off (at night, and up until around...

    Biginner fish?

I would recommend Endler's Livebearers. As a beginner i have gone with these little guys, and i am very pleased. They are very small, 1-2cm, but really colourful, active and not shy. They shouldnt be kept with guppies as they will interbreed. Also i would probably avoid breeding them as you...

    nitates in riparium

Depends what for really. Im not an expert on it so i'll leave it for someone else to confirm, but personally i wouldnt worry too much about it. Maybe if it was 80ppm or thereabouts. Just do regular water changes, maybe twice a week, 30% or so.
  24. P

    nitates in riparium

did you test your tap water supply? I didnt see an answer to that question on the thread provided. My tap water comes out around 40ppm on various occasions. Nitrate can be present in tap water by way of leaching from farm lands that have been dosed with fertlizer (nitrates), this can also...

How much light do i need?

cheers for the reply. I have jus read the article you linked to, and from what I can see it suggests that i would need around 150w or so. why have my plants stopped pearling?

I think the problem here lies that when you increase the temp of the water CO2 is less soluble in the water as well, so this in turn effects the rate at which photosynthesis occurs as well as the levels of O2 in water.

I have a 30cm nano cube and am finding it hard to decide between lily pipes for a new external filter i have bought. I tried to set it up with the eheim spray bar which came with it (eheim 2213) but it looks far too intrusive. I have heard cal-aqua lily pipes mentioned, and these look to be...

do i need to mix TPN+ with water before dosing?

I only have to does a small amount for a nano tank and i use a syringe to measure the amount i need from the bottle then suck up tank water into the syringe until it is full and then empty it in the tank. Obviously this wont work too well if you dose amounts too large for a syringe measure.
