Fishes would be last thing I added after tank has matured some. Would resist running lighting for much more than eight hours a day. Gobs of fast growing plants for the majority.

If the tank is to Be Non CO2 injected, or low tech as some call it, I would not be too wild with light intensity. Is good that lighting can be shaded as you say. With or without CO2 injection,I would start at maybe 50% light intensity for no longer than eight hours a day.

Is it possible that adult shrimp or babies are being drawn into the filter? Rasboras,Betta,Corydoras will all readily snack on Adult shrimps and Fry alike .

I agree and maybe next time do weekly water change and then introduce new fish. In that way,the fish or fishes have a week to adapt to new tank condition's before water change time.;)

I would change 50% of water once a week.Sorry I don't know what fertilizer you are using or what directions call for, but 2 ml a day is not much more than a drop or two. I might try 5ml every day just before lights on if I could.

Most of bulb type plants that I have grown if they went dormant,they did so in late fall into winter .Springtime usually brought growth spurts. Have also buried bulbs too deep,or upside down when first I tried them.
