    On my 300l I did run a DIY reactor inline from filter outlet, but don't bother anymore. Just like Zeus I atomise into my external filter inlet (Eheim 700 pro3e), don't have any issue with over gassing in filter.

    I have open bags of aqua soil left for years in my workshop from tanks that I have stripped down. I spread the wet soil out on cardboard outside leaving it to dry, bag it up and then re use it sometime in another tank when I re-scape. Never had a problem ;)

    These solenoids fail quite often, especially the cheaper type, its normally the electric positioner that fails, so even if the led is lit the magnetic field isn't being generated, and therefore the valve will not open. just bypass (or remove it) it for now until you get a new one. ;)

    I use swagelok and hoke micrometer needle valves. They are easy to adjust they have gradients on the handle so that you know how many turns you have operated. They are more expensive than the needle valves found in the aquatic shops but 10x better. And they do come up on eBay now and again...
