    Concerned about water parameters

Will do. I can't help feel buffering the water is going to help a little, especially with the Vallis.. Gonna have to start cutting the Lilaeopsis back as staghorn is taking hold on the runners. It started off well but since aiming a 1/3 of the water at the surface I think I must be losing too...

    Concerned about water parameters

It is a cheapo, and yes I have got buffers but until I head over to my nearest dry salters I have no access to cheap Distilled water to make the buffers with. Out the tap it does show about 7 though which is as the waterboard reports. Interestingly the water I removed from the aquarium has...

    Concerned about water parameters

Cardinals are the one fish I haven't seen any problems with! Hmm, that's a shame as the Hatchets are very healthy looking but just become listless and dying. I have had them for a few weeks now and have never lost fish after such a long period in the past :-/

    Concerned about water parameters

WEll my PH meter came today. Quick test without calibrating shows 5.3! Soo I suspect this could be killing my Hatchets off. Incidentally, lost another one last night so down to two now. So gonna try the buffering shown in James' planted tank but will take it real slow, mostly concerned for...

    Concerned about water parameters

I do use freshstart with a water change, but this has never shown in ammonia tests. Always found the test kit to work ok if followed to the letter. Yes the BPT is gasping a little. I reduced CO2 partly in case this is the reason.

    Concerned about water parameters

ok folks still trying to get on top of things here. I just wondered if you could check my video out for flow etc.. and give me any suggestions... I know many here do not advocate testing but I want to include all the info I can while available. Just concerned as I am getting staghorn and there...

    Concerned about water parameters

Hi dw, something has definitely happened with plant growth. The leaves on the large plant became distorted and the other stems (green hygro I think) have started with beard algae. I have since cut the stems right down to allow for more flow. I am also going to re-evaluate my E.I. but I am...

    Concerned about water parameters

After the last water change. I have since cut the plants back to allow for water movement but that is another topic I guess. I will have to do another test if you want to see the API results...

    Concerned about water parameters

ok folks so noticed one of my kuhlis seemed a little energetic last night, and as these fellas are sensitive I performed a test. I was surprised to say the least! PH 6 Am 0? Ni 0 Na ~5 It has been running about 6 months fully planted now. stock is about 80% of potential at the moment. I put a...

General plant help V soft water

Ah that's interesting thanks! I have pointed two of the outlet tubes in to the water to purposely reduce flow for the frogbit. Maybe I need to turn the middle tube round for more circulation. At least the fish don't seem to suffer though!

    Journal Utricularia Graminifolia Tepui

I managed suprisingly well with sundews. Only one I didn't get on with was S.Aliciae. I suspect the lack of sun was a factor. It was the least interesting of all sundews anyway :-p Do you feed yours with waterfleas or similar?

General plant help V soft water

So I think I am getting somewhere with my plants. Been getting healthier leaves but these are mostly easy grow plants. My solution was to double the E.I. ingredients. I probably should pin down exactly what I am short of though! I suspect my main problem now is that some of my plants need...

    Journal Utricularia Graminifolia Tepui

Ah thanks, Darrel. It always intrigued me. Use to keep sundews pitchers and Neps. Wonderful hobby if you can afford a greenhouse. Hard work on a window sill!

    Thai micro crabs

And of course, the breeders would love to solve this so will have thrown quite a lot of resources at attempting to breed I would have thought!

    Journal Utricularia Graminifolia Tepui

Wow, Utricularia is actually a native plant in the UK. Never managed to spot any as yet though!

Bit of a warning with superglue

Hi Jmorgan, The glue is standard Loctite! Pack of 3. I suspect it was just the quantity I used tbh. There were a number of branches and I was quite liberal with the stuff. The fact I was ignorant in thinking the glue set on contact with the damp wood and would be safe on submersion was where I...

    Thai micro crabs

Personally, until we see successful captive breeding we should stand strong and not purchase these. They will be driven to extinction, and for what?
  19. O

Bit of a warning with superglue

Yes, I suspect it is purely down to quantity. It was all the alphas that I lost too, they were fighting over the bogwood. My cardinals (very young) have all survived as have two other BPT's. A lesson learnt and a shame it had to be at the expense of my livestock :( Probably worth anyone...

Bit of a warning with superglue

So I received a load of moss last night. I decided to glue it to the branches of some root I have with some cyo from my local Bargain shop. The Black Phantoms commenced their display around the wood flairing and turning deep black, lovely sight. I did not really give a lot of thought to the...

General plant help V soft water

Will get a shot later of the plants in question... The sand I chose for the corys more than anything although I guess some proper soil would be better, not too late to sort as nothing is rooted yet, plants still in their pots! The pump is an EX1200 with an upper spray bar in three sections. Two...

General plant help V soft water

I just want to add I am injecting about 2 bubbles a second and the CO2 goes into one of these impellor type reactors in line with the pump. Seems very effective as there are no co2 bubbles at all!

General plant help V soft water

Hi folks, been a while since a grew plants and knowing the previous problems I have had I want to pre-empt and solve some of the issues before I go down that road again! So, My tank is 180 liters, standard jewel lighting (new tubes and ballast), injected CO2 and dosing E.I. I have gone for a...

Where to buy in the North West.

I love Abyss for fish. Expensive but stock is second to none! Some gorgeous BPT's and Khoolis in at the moment! I thought while they had a good range of plants they were a bit tired considering the prices they were asking! Altrincham World of water is pretty good too. I would personally steer...

    Leaking tetratec Ex 1200

@chris1004 having pulled mine apart can you tell me which bits you are referring too?

    Damn EX1200 :-(

Hi folks, so my EX1200 sprung a leak tonight! I removed the lid from the motor unit and traced the leak to the ball valve assembly, I think it is coming out of the side of the ball valves where there is an embedded o-ring. Has anyone managed to repair these? Good job I was 2 weeks in to a...
