I feel myself beginning to lose patience. I still intend to stick it out but I think it’s safe to say this will be the third and final order from me. Ordered May 31st. Obviously had no email response or update and they haven’t been in touch to organise the delivery when they said they would on...
FYI I called NACD and got a call back within a few minutes. My aquarium is made and is curing and then needs 3 days water testing. Basically he said 2 weeks max for delivery. He sounded apologetic and prepared to be moaned at but I was very pleasant. He did apologise and said they’ve had so many...
Sounds a bit like they might be ‘winding down’, but who knows…
Or maybe the fact that eBay has a system for tracking deliveries within a certain timeframe wasn’t working out for him 😂
That was my thought process - I’m not in a huge rush.
Though I’ve gotten no response at all this time around, which is worse than previous orders. If I had read this thread prior to this order I might not have gone ahead. But as I said I plan to hang on as I don’t want to pay double somewhere...
Does seem highly negligent. I don’t know if he has a full time job along side this gig, given that he only passes the orders to a factory, or if this is his full time job. Either way 15 mins of email responses a day would be a massive improvement for all.
Well it’s a shame. I don’t mind waiting another month but I hope I don’t end up having to go the reclaim / refund route. Everyone else wants pretty much double the money for the same spec tank.
Ive used them a few times, delivery dates and comms are always poor, but quality and price have always been very good so far. Saying that I am chasing them again with no response to my order 29 working days ago (15-20 working days stated until delivery). Fingers crossed!
Edit: I would advise...
Thanks Darrel, that does make a lot of sense actually. Do you suggest adding more iron? Would this work with the water chemistry in mind? Do you have any suggestions?
I’ve had this tank up and running for 2 years now, everything in it grows well, and there’s no other types of algae except for the one pictured which covers the plants and kills them. I read that high phosphates cause this, so I tested my tap water (London tap) and found that my tap water had...
This happened to me a year ago with the same filter and it was a nightmare to solve. Had to take the whole thing apart and replace the part. And now it’s just happened again! It’s obvious that this part it not fit for purpose.
Eheim need to redesign this part as it’s obviously been happening...
I was wondering about how strong the skimmer is. Would be nice if you could adjust the balance between skimmer and main inlet.
Any other options around? The looks pretty good but no heater and quite large for a 30cm cube.
Thanks
My main concern is surface film. I always get this on my tanks and I don’t see that I can deal with it, without an overflow or skimmer type inlet on the filter.
Hi all,
Looking for:
Internal filter
Overflow / skimmer inlet
Space for biological filter media
Built in heater / space for heater (bonus)
Hooks onto glass edge, as suction cups are CRAP.
For use with 30cm planted cube.
Thanks for the responses. The tank will be heavily planted with epiphytes only and hardscape (NA style) and water is London tap water. I’ve updated the tank dimensions as yes I made a mistake between cm & mm!!
Hi all,
After many years of having various tanks from 50 - 60 litres, I am planning to upgrade to the biggest tank I can house which will be 120 litres (100x40x30H cm).
I will sit about 3 metres away from the tank so want some fish I can actually see in there, as much as I love nano fish.
In...
They weren’t the perfect size but still fit into the slot on the diffuser. My diffuser was a bit of a mess so I ended up getting a new diffuser which came with a new suction cup. However these ones where useful in the interim and I’ll probably use them again once the new one gives up.
Thanks for all the tips. I have been trying to find some examples of planted aquariums using wabi kusa hangers but haven’t found any some how! Obviously there are different methods - walls, hangers, or just mounting up substrate at the back. I’m deciding between the last two, so would be good to...
Hi all,
After a bit of success with some plants in my 45x35x35 I’m setting up a new tank. The plan is a thin sandy bottom with all plants attached to hardscape. I want a triangular layout, with smaller plants to the left, then rising up and out of the tank on the right. This is what I need some...
Thank you! Please see the image below. Looks like the 'disc' which slots into the diffuser is 6mm in diameter and about 1mm thick. I have looked all over but it's extremely hard to find / get enough info on sizes from websites.
Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately it doesn’t work on this particular suction cup - tried it 4 times now. The plastic has just hardened too much.
So I really do need to source a replacement somehow.
Anyone?
Hi all,
I’m on my third Twinstar diffuser and the suction cup is now useless. Unfortunately the new diffusers don’t actually include a new suction cup, so now my diffuser is just flapping all over the place.
Anyone know where I can get one that’ll fit?
I have the M5 model Twinstar.
Thanks
Hi all,
I keep seeing small clusters of these bugs at the water line. They're tiny, line 1mm in length. I squash them and remove them from the glass, literally 2 minutes later there's more. Been going on for about a week I think. They also seen to be able to stand on the water surface and also...
I know it’s really annoying. I ordered from a place in the Netherlands called AZaqua I think. Also ordered the ADA rocks from there. The prices were completely outrageous to be honest, but that was my only option for these items.
Update day 9:
Tank is planted now, photo shows the tank 9 days after planting. It was difficult to fit all the plants in I ordered, as the wood creates large areas of shadow and sort of divides the tank in half in a sense. I've had a few leaves die which were in shadow but those plants are also...
+1 for custom sizes. Standard tanks never have the depth I like. I like Eheim thermofilters, but buy a higher flow than you think you need. For a 50l you need minimum 1000l flow rate on an Eheim. Look at Kessil lights, very nice. I have the A80 Tuna Sun for my low tech 54l.
Hi UKAPS :)
I'm now ready to order plants. The wood after being soaked and cleaned for months is still growing white stuff from it, mould or whatever. I've added the very expensive but very nice ADA Vuppa 2, waiting on a Kessil A80 Tuna Sun to come through. And I'll be adding a foam sponge over...
The quality is excellent. Very happy, I've had a couple of ADA tanks and I can't tell the difference . Best of all, you can have absolutely any size you can dream up!
Hi, would you mind going into detail about your ferts please? I’m about to set up a low tech aquarium after many years without one, and I also live in Bromley - so basically identical water as you I guess.
Thanks
Hello UKAPS.
After a few years off I’m about to get back into the hobby. My history in aquascaping could be summarised as ‘algae growing expert’. I hope that some discussion will set me off on the right path, and hugely appreciate people’s help to produce a tank I can be happy with, for once...
Hi all,
I’m considering a 40cm cube. Does anyone know what the silicone work is like on these aquariums? Is it as good as ADA? I can’t seem to find any user examples online.
Here’s a link...
Thanks for the tip, unfortunately their contact form does not work , just says 'error'. And I'm pretty hesitant to order a glass aquarium for another country!
Anyone know anywhere in UK?
Hi,
I was about to buy an optiwhite 40x40x40cm from The Green Machine, but they told me they don't do them anymore!
Where can I buy one with excellent silicone work like ADA? There was another site that used to do them in the U.K. But that seems to have disappeared too.
Sorry to hear that. I had a similar experience with a pair of rams in a 60 litre and I see it a lot online. I've only seen them successful in far larger tanks for some reason.
Such beautiful fish I refuse to get more because it's horrible when they don't last long.
Great pics on your instagram. I have bolbitis and ram envy.
Do you have to take any extra precautions using 50% RO? Like adding anything additional to the water at all?
@MrHidley Thanks for the light tips. I think I will go with the Kessil A80 Tuna Sun. Very handy having a dimmable light. Would be nice if they provided more technical info on it but it looks like a good option.
@Zeus. I was thinking something similar. I'll probably decide on sand or both...
Looks great!
I have a few questions:
What percentage are you running the light power roughly?
Are you using co2?
Have you had more luck with RO water and Bolbitis? What is your dosing scheme?
I also live in London and have tried Bolbitis several times and it just dies every time. I'm...
Hi all, :)
Not sure if anyone here will remember me, I've been out of the hobby for a good few years now.
I would like to get back into having a tank, and feel the need for discussion as I believe there may have been some developments in certain areas whilst I've been away. Please bare with...
I have a Superfish Aqua Cube 9 watt light as pictured below over my ADA Mini M. Though the tube has just gone.
Can I replace the tube? It seems I need a torx head driver to open it up so I'm not actually sure if it can be replaced? I would rather replace it if possible than just bin the...
Hi guys,
I did a big clean, glass, filter, pruned melting bolbitius and sucked out the fungus on wood. I left the water out overnight to de-gas CO2 and did a 20-25% water change.
I would like to know whether this is detrimental to the plants, as if not I would like to do this about every 4-6...
Hi all,
The plants are doing okay apart from the Bolbitis. It has a little algae, not much but the leaves are pretty much all beginning to decay quite badly. I am dosing as per Tom Barr's recommendations, I tested and found my NO3 very low (0ppm), so I doubled the dosing on KNO3. I have read...
Ed - Yes they're new. Unfortunately Maidenhead Aquatics Morden where I got the fish from closed for trade the day I bought them, so I can't ask!
Stu - I do crush it up small but I'll try the above tips also. Thanks.
I have 12 Ember Tetras, it's been 6 days now and they will not eat either the ground up Tetra Colour Pro food or frozen Cyclops. They will put it in their mouthes but spit it out, I have not observed ANY eating, at all.
They seem happy enough, if a little shy, though most of them have good...
Thanks. I swapped the Xingu for ADA Mekong, that is what is in the pic above. As stated above I changed the bulb, though it's still the Ikea desk lamp. Photoperiod is 6 hours at the moment.
Hi all, here's the tank as it is right now.
As you can see the water has cleared up fairly well, I have been adding ADA Green Bacter and a little Phyton Git, just because I have it, not sure whether this helped the water to clear or not. There is still fungus on the wood and some mosses...
Looks great and I have to say, it's ALL about METAL inlets and outlets. I can't stand the glass ones I have broken several and believe me I am very careful with them.
Though I still think there could be a better attachment system than suctions cups IMO
Yeah, I'm trying not to do water changes though as I need the plants to adapt properly to increase their rubisco for low tech and get healthier. Do White Pearl Shrimp eat the fungus? Or Cithon Corona snails? Because I will be ordering both at some point in the near future.
I have just noticed rather a lot of fungus on the redmoor wood, water is still cloudy, perhaps slightly improved though hard to tell.
Would should I do about the fungus and cloudy water? Will the filter bacteria take care of it once it's more mature or what should I do?
I have some ADA Green...
I gave part of it a boil but couldn't fit most of it in the pot.
It's looking a little clearer today, though still fairly cloudy. I didn't know that the wood could cloud the water? How?
By the way I did do a 100% water change with the rescape to get rid of all the tanins in the water, and obviously treated the water with Seachem prime.
Not sure, I did reattach it and it didn't seem to like it. Though it wasn't in the best condition when it arrived either, but it was alive
P.S. Your Mini M is fantastic!
Hi all, update:
So I couldn't bare to look at the original layout, so I bought some bolbitis and mini java from TGM along with some ADA Yamaya stones and Redmoor wood. The big bare stone on top is holding the redmoor down so you can't see all the anubia, it's so buoyant it pretty much sits...
Hi all, thanks.
It's not super critical work, but I did notice that I was making things far too warm, so a daylight bulb should help a lot.
I ended up ordering this one Pro-Lite 11w Energy Saving Bulb ES Cap Daylight Spiral T2JD# | eBay
11watt and 6400K & decent CRI. Should help and not...
Not sure, states 6500-7000K. Would rather it was 6500K exactly. Looks mad with all those LEDs!
A single LED would be my preference, second is an energy saving type. The problem I have is what power. My Ikea LED says 8.1W 400 Lumens.
Also it's E27
EDIT: Ah, have denoted that I want 11w for...
Hi guys,
I am looking for a screw-in bulb for my desk lamp to work as a light for my ADA Mini M, and as a desk light.
I have just noticed that many of my colour adjustments in photoshop are off (yellowish) due to all of the warm lighting in my room. So I want a 6500K bulb, (not 8000K or...
Paolo, is the Bolbitis you have a mini variety? I want to get some but I know that they get massive. How did you find it? And do you know where I might find a mini var?
All looking great, good luck with the breeding
That is exactly how I started, with a Juwel Rekord 60 (54L). Then I took the hood off and added T5 lighting and CO2, then removed the internal filter and added an external.
I massively urge you not to go this way, there are several reasons not to. Firstly, it's a lot more work and faffing...
Hi and thanks! They are pricey but the 60P is a bit of a bargain (for the size at least) at about 150. Do!Aqua are much cheaper and the same apart from the fact that they use normal float glass which isn't as clear as the ADA.
Yes I am set on Snowball shrimp, really can't wait but I need the...
Yes the sand is really nice :-) If I was using CO2 it would definitely be the UP Atomizer for me. But I'm not a fan of hi-tech, too much maintenance. Good luck!
Hi all,
Bit the bullet and went for the ADA Mini M, and it really is a beautiful tank. Also got some ADA Mekong Powder sand, which I prefer to the ADA Xingu I had, though mainly just due to grain size, the Mekong does have a nice natural look though. Bought a Fluval Compact 25W heater too as...
Just seen this and been reading lots. Great journal. Though I was surprised at this:
"The more nutrients in the water, the more algae can grow on exposed hardscape without a clean up crew."
Is this really true?
I think from the room a HOB would look more of a mess to be honest, also there is actually no space for a HOB (left monitor, behind wall, right desk lamp) and I don't like that they aren't silent. The Dennerle in a Mini M is really quite unobtrusive. I just wanted to see if anyone will respond...
Hi guys, bit of an update on my plans: I have figured out that I can use the hardware in my desk lamp and drill a hole through my desk and just clamp the lamp to that! Allowing me to get rid of the base, meaning of course, I have space for an ADA Mini M!!!! This is the only tank I will have for...
Thanks. I'd love a Mini M but it would be too big for my desk, so I think I will get the Mini S. I have a light very similar to the Dennerle one, though I plan on using the desk lamp, which has a single LED bulb so I get that nice shimmer too! Must keep the light low, I really don't want it to...
^ Thanks :)
I have decided that I'm going to stock only Snowball shrimp, one clithon corona, and perhaps in future, boraras brigittae! Or something equally small.
Thinking about getting an ADA Mini S for this, as I prefer the dimensions of the tank to what I have, and I have wanted an ADA...
WOW! Well, I have bought loads of plants from Aquatic Magic in the past and never had any issues, and used this seller again this time so hoping it'll be okay. Thanks. I might be a lot more cautious if I was going to keep expensive shrimp as the value of restocking could be hundreds. For me it'd...
