External filter hoses kitchen cupboard HELP

@Tucker90 Ave you got another pic that shows what the rest of the unit is like around the tank? If I were drilling the holes I'd probably choose to drill the door as it will be a lot easier to replace if you ever want to undo it.

To sump or n̶o̶t̶ to sump? (Swan Lake)

I've not set anything like this up but just a thought re the co2 diffuser. Will the ball valves be controlled along with the Co2 solenoid so that the bypass closes when the co2 is on? If not, is there a chance most of the water will just go through the none diffuser pipe as it will be the path...

Does excess co2 inhibit plant growth?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I guess the reason for talking about low O2 tolerance is not necessarily that there will be less O2 in the water with more CO2 but that the O2 will be 'harder' to get given the change in concentration. So while you're increasing CO2 you're not looking for fish that...

Is the 50ppm 'limit' something to do with the maximum amounts fish can cope with?

    CO2 leak

Have you got the exact joint the leak is coming from? I.e is it the thread on the regulator side or the bottle side? If not, mix a bit of washing up liquid in water and put it on all the joints, put some pressure in the system and your should be able to spot the exact source of the leak as it...

    CO2 leak

Do you mean on the pipe between your CO2 bottle and your reg or between the regulator and solenoid? Either way, I imagine your should be able to undo it with something like an adjustable spanner, you can then try adding a bit of ptfe tape to the joint and put it back together, that will...

    Sand Waterfall

I've not made it, but are you saying the sand is being pushed up out of the t peice, rather than flowing out of the top? If so, sounds obvious but it's definitively the right way round? It looks like it's meant to 'guide' the water downwards and force it under the inlet so it should have the...

Tap water for plants - and moving them

It's approx 165L of actual water , bow front corner. Currently got 2 peppered and 6 panda cory and 5 forktail rainbowfish. We're planning to get a few more forktails to increase the size of the group to 7-10, and a similar number of rummy nose tetra, and few shrimp.

Tap water for plants - and moving them

I'm going to be putting a bit of veg at the edge every few days to temp them all over for picking off, hopefully between than and a wash every couple of days I'll get them! If not, I'll be back to ask which are the best at sniffing then out! I've seen loaches pop up a lot but don't take want...

    Adjustable flow circulation pump

Can anyone recommend a half decent circulation pump that has the option to adjust the flow rate and doesn't cost the earth? I am look for something to put on when my Co2 kicks in to help ensure a good distribution however I want to be able to regulate it as is a bow front corner and not...

Tap water for plants - and moving them

The old tank had a fair few ram horn (?) snails that got in , we don't really want these in the new tank so the 'quarantine' is just a couple of weeks in a 'clean' space to make sure we catch any before it goes across

Tap water for plants - and moving them

Thanks a lot, snip snip it is! I'm a little sad we're having to move it all at, it's grown in a very low tech, no ferts, only water changing every few months and the 'ecosystem' that had built up was ticking along quite nicely. Although, the fish seem to be making full use of the extra space...

Tap water for plants - and moving them

Just taken the old tank apart and removed the plants for transferring, one of them had a half decent set of roots (been in there untouched for over 2 years). When putting it in the new tank do I just leave them and try spread them out in the substrate or am I best to cut them to try promote...

Tap water for plants - and moving them

I'm sure this is silly question but just to be safe! I assume plants don't mind untreated tap water? I am going to transfer some plants /moss from my old tank to my new one but want to go through a 'quarantine' tank first to make sure I don't bring across any unwanted hitch hikers. Will I be OK...

    Magnesium in tap water

Surely the NPK ratio is the mass of NPK rather than NO3 etc. My understanding is we use NO3/PO4 as that's the form the plant can uptake the respective nutrients in (I may be very very wrong in which case I need to go back and reeducate myself!) so it just makes calculating dosing easier aiming...

    Magnesium in tap water

Being following this with a bit of interest. A question I have is how do increasing levels of SO4 impact life (plants and fish) in the aquarium, if at all? It seems the most common compound to get Mg into the ferts is using MgSO4 so bumping up the Mg value to reach the desired Ca:Mg ratio...

    Sulphur in soil substrate

I dug it up the other night, no fish in at the moment so I didn't have to worry about anything to much. Glad I did too be fair, a lot of the roots were not in good shape. I think I'll have lost a couple of the plants but the others seem to be recovering OK now they're out of the soil. A lot came...

    Sulphur in soil substrate

Thanks for the response, very helpful! I'm not adding ammonia, only thing I've added is plant fertiliser so far, it seems to cycling well though. So it sounds like the core of the problem is lack of oxygen in the soil, having looked at the links I suspect it might be on the thick side too...

    Sulphur in soil substrate

Hello all, Came home yesterday to a very eggy smelling house (took me a whole to convince my other half my stomach was fine!) , turns out the soil substrate of my tank is releasing, I guess from the smell, some sort of sulphuric gas. Since going in the plants aren't so doing well, I...

    'hanging' a spray bar

Does anyone know any suppliers that make 'l-bracket' clips for 12/16 hose? I want to make a larger spray bar for me tank so I can try increase my tank turnover without ramping up the speed of the flow too much (if that's possible!). I have a bow front corner so can't hide much at the back but...

Can Cory live in my water?

I have 2 peppered cory and 6 panda, any my tank water has pH of 8.3. The gh of my tap water is about 17/18, not checked the tank recently but i did a while ago, after not water changing for a few months, and stopped when the drop test said 25. Needless to say they have been happy as Larry in...

    Hello there!

Thanks a lot! I've just been adding a bit of food on everyday to have something that breaks down for now. Not in a rush, currently the fish I have are happy as Larry in the other tank so no pressure from there. I'll certainly hold off a bit longer than planned though, make sure the plants are...

    Hello there!

Hello all, Just joined up so saying hello. Had a small 50L on the go for a few of years now which has always had a few plants in the go, and prior to that had a similar size but unplanted. Recently decided to experiment with an upgrade! Got a second hand corner which holds about 160L with the...
