The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

So that time has come again to shut the tank down. I will definitely be back though. Just want to say a massive thanks to everyone that has helped me out with tips and advice since the tank has been running, I'm very pleased with how the tank has turned out. 5 months worth of WCs, sweat, blood...

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

I been away from the scene quite a while, I was getting stressed and losing the love for it all due to algae. But I stuck at it and see it through and I'm glad I did as its not doing too bad. OK there is still algae in the tank but nothing I'm too concerned about and its not getting any worst...
  3. Keetchy

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

It does mate but I got told that adding a small micro dose to the tank along side TNC won't hurt. I had the salts sitting in a cupboard anyway so I haven't gone out to buy them to make it up. Lol
  4. Keetchy

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

So skimmer lily pipes fitted Due to this I had to increase the C02 a bit. With leaving the C02 as it was after these were fitted, the DC was a blue colour by time lights come on. For the last week now I've managed to get the DC a lime green from lights on to C02 off so seems like I have that...

C02 levels fluctuate too much on WC day

Thanks for your replies guys So I don't think my algae issues is caused by WC day, the algae started when I added a 2nd light so has put the balance of light/C02/ferts out of line. I'm slowly trying to get this back in balance. But was worried that this 1 day a week of fluctuating C02 isn't...

C02 levels fluctuate too much on WC day

Hey guys. Some of you know I'm having a bit of an issue with algae at the moment so getting my C02 stable is the first task. On WC day I try to get it done before the C02 is timed to come on. So I don't have to interrupt the C02 getting pumped into the tank. Even though the tank is fully filled...

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

Thanks bud. So do I. Lol. I'll adjust the lights to a same height as they are on the DVD cases until the algae is under control. Then if I see a struggle in growth and C02 levels are stable, I'll lower the lights a little
  8. Keetchy

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

More permanent fix for the lights to replace the DVD cases. Lol. And these ones are adjustable too. Will stick pads on them so the glass don't get scratched up

Any TNC complete users out there, help with dosing please

Well I been a tit all this time. Somehow I worked out the dosage all wrong. Recommended is 1ml per 10 litres per week. So for my 150 litres of water that's 15ml per week. I'm running C02 so times it by 3 which makes 45ml per week. I dose 6 days a week and have been dosing 4.5ml per day  I...

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

Thanks bud, I'll put it in place and see where I'm at this weekend
  11. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

Brilliant. Thanks guys As for the positioning of the lily pipe inlet and outlet, I suppose fitting them at the front corner facing across the front will be better than at the back corner facing across the back right? That way if I need to add a powerhead, I can fit that in the rear corner kind...
  12. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

Yeah true. I suppose the best way to tell is by looking at the plants and checking for deficiencies

Any TNC complete users out there, help with dosing please

Nice one bud. So I'll stick to my 3x recommended then :)

Cool cool. Thanks man. Let's get this tank back on its feet again
  17. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

Ha OK cool. So carry on with plan C yeah? WCs every other day, cut out any new algae infested leaves and scrubbing hardscape, leave C02 as it is now as the DC is a lime green colour from lights on to C02 off, and carry on dosing what I was dosing which is 3 times the normal TNC recommended dose
  18. Keetchy

Any TNC complete users out there, help with dosing please

Hey hey So I have approx 150 litres of water in the tank after hardscape and substrate are in. Substrate is Tropica Soil. I am running C02 and the tank is heavily planted with very little gaps in the substrate. Light is just an Amazon special full spectrum LED light and I am running 2 of them...
  19. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

OK bud, I'll start another thread tonight. So the recommended dosage for TNC is 1ml per 10 litres of water. I am ferting 3ml per 10 litres of water. But I will still start a new thread in the fertiliser section
  20. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

Perfect bud. I'll get myself the skimmer lily pipe set and a controllable powerhead. Hopefully with the increased flow and keeping the C02 steady, the ferts will fall into place and I'll have a successful tank. Its just knowing how much to fert of TNC to get it right that will be the next tricky...
  21. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

I'll check out the video. Thanks. Wow so in that case I am underpowered with my filter. I'll definitely get a powerhead then. I'll assess the flow once I got the lily pipe fitted but most likely have the filter sorting out the flow for the front of the tank and stick a powerhead in the rear...
  22. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

I just hope I can get back in control of the tank before I end up cutting all the plants out with algae. Lol
  23. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

I can judge the amount of flow in the tank by watching where the micro C02 bubbles get blown around right? That and movement of the plants. So my next goal is to get a skimmer lily pipe set for my filter and fit that. The filter is powerful enough for my tank. I have a 160 litre tank and the...
  24. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

Thanks bud. OK I can look into getting a skimmer lily pipe glassware set. I suppose this way I can take my Eheim surface skimmer out of the tank. I will move the inlet and outlet pipes to the side walls of the tank too. I do notice all AG tanks have the outlet and inlet next to each other and...
  25. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

OK thanks again. I'm dosing TNC complete so don't have individual micros and macros like in Ei dosing. I am dosing 4.5ml per day for 6 days a week so far, I can try increasing that to maybe 5ml per day and see what happens
  26. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

Just tested water after reading those links you sent me, and ammonia and nitrite are 0 and nitrate is present but very low
  27. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

OK. I won't reduce the amount of ferts then. But then surely increasing ferts will then feed the algae more. So maybe keep it as it is but just add floating plants and keep doing what I'm doing, WC every other day and cut out any leaves with algae on and scrub hardscape. So the algae in the...
  28. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

OK bud. So am I right in thinking I should reduce ferts so it kind of starves the algae, then once algae is under control, start slowly increasing ferts again so the plants have no more deficiencies. The light I have reduced from 6 hours to 5 hours. So I can reduce that by another hour if I need...

@arcturus here's more pics of the algae
  30. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

OK great. Thanks man. I can't adjust the intensity of the lights but I have reduced hours from 6 hours to 5. Since the issue I've got C02 back on to where it was which is giving me a lime green on the DC from lights on to lights off. I am still ferting the same I was before the issue but am now...
  31. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

Yeah I'm keeping a close eye on the fish. The DC has been a lime green for couple of days now from lights on to lights off so I think I got that OK now, so no need to adjust it anymore. I could buy a bunch of floating plants if you think that will help
  32. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

Thanks bud. So C02 is on and is giving a lime green colour on the DC from lights on to lights off and I am ferting again. Also doing daily to every other day WCs. Scrubbing the rocks regularly and removing any leaves I see with BBA on them. Fingers crossed
  33. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

Am I right in thinking I can start adding C02 and ferts again but just act as if I've just started the tank up again. So do daily WCs while the plants adjust to the new intensity of light, C02 and ferts
  34. Keetchy

A bit of help please guys with BBA, C02 and ferts

So my tank was doing really well until I decided to add a second light to get more coverage over the whole tank. Since then I've had an outbreak of what I think is BBA (black hair on plants and rocks). The plants that had BBA was Buces, ferns and MC. When I added the extra light, I increased the...
  35. Keetchy

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

So let's see if this makes a difference. Will let it dry overnight then fit it in place in the morning. If I need to add the 2nd light after, then I will. This is just made up with what I had round the house, until I can fabricate something more permanent Jump guard is upside down so will...
  36. Keetchy

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

After a lot help and advice from @arcturus on the other thread, I think the cause of the algae and MC going brown is down to me adding the 2nd light, upping the C02 but forgetting to up the ferts. School boy error. So plan of action is to just run the 1 light but raise it up higher than it was...
  37. Keetchy

Will adding 2 of the same light, double the intensity?

Thank you. And I will definitely look into a dimmer for the lights. It'll save a lot of hassle Thanks man. I gave up far too easily last time on a bigger tank I had, I'll try not to do that again this time. Lol. I'll take baby steps into changes and keep an eye on the effects of the changes
  38. Keetchy

Will adding 2 of the same light, double the intensity?

Perfect. Thanks for your help bud. Appreciate it. At one point earlier on I was thinking about shutting the tank down.
  39. Keetchy

Will adding 2 of the same light, double the intensity?

OK so I got options now. Do I...... 1 - Leave the tank with just 1 light but raise it up like in the pic (but not with DVD cases I know LOL) 2 - Stick both lights on and leave them at the height they were at but increase the C02 again and ferts 3 - Stick both lights on, raise them both up and...
  40. Keetchy

Will adding 2 of the same light, double the intensity?

Ah damn dude, we could be getting somewhere now. Yes I increased the C02 when I added the extra light, but i never increased the amount of TNC I'm putting in. I am still dosing the same amount as when i was running 1 light. So this would make sense to why my ferns and Buces are getting algae and...
  41. Keetchy

Will adding 2 of the same light, double the intensity?

The only plants that are suffering with algae since the 2nd light was fitted is the MC at the front and the Buce and Ferns on the wood. The stems and Crypts have no sign of algae on then yet
  42. Keetchy

Will adding 2 of the same light, double the intensity?

Yep I can try that. But for now just reduce the time the lights are on for. Thanks
  43. Keetchy

Will adding 2 of the same light, double the intensity?

OK cool. I can look into raising the lights. So do you think I should go back to just one light and raising it for now, or keep both lights running and raise both of them?
  44. Keetchy

Will adding 2 of the same light, double the intensity?

So as expected I am seeing algae growth on the plants. The plants that are suffering the most is the Trident attached to the wood in the middle of the tank. Which I guess is where the cone of light is hitting from both lights combined. I will cut out the algae infested leaves and monitor again...

What do you guys feed your cherry barbs

Cool cool. What size tank is yours? Just wondering what else I can put in with the barbs in a 60 litre tank Ah yeah that makes sense. Let's hope the plants grow quickly then. Lol. As for double figures for the barbs, I only have a 60 litre tank so that's why I only got 5. I don't think I can...
  47. Keetchy

What do you guys feed your cherry barbs

Ah nice tip. Thanks. I'll give that a try when I feed them next Yeah school boy error there. I usually just sprinkle on top. I'll start dunking under water before letting it all go next time. Thanks. Yeah I have 5 of them and an albino bristlenose. I do usually sit there watching them to see...
  48. Keetchy

What do you guys feed your cherry barbs

Thanks. I'll give them a try. I've also added slow sinking bug bites but I get a lot of it that doesn't sink and the stuff that stays on the surface just gets left there until the surface skimmer sucks it all up
  49. Keetchy

What do you guys feed your cherry barbs

Do any of you guys keep cheery barbs. If so, what do you feed them? I'm hoping there's not an underlining issue but I have had some in my small tank for about 2-3 weeks now and I feed JBL flakes, same as what I feed my main tank. But the barbs never go to the top to eat. Then I tried some...
  50. Keetchy

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

So after some of your guy's suggestions, I have fitted another light so am now running 1 at the front and 1 at the rear to get full coverage. I will monitor the tank over the next few days and if I see algae starting to show, I'll either reduce the time on one of the lights or stick insulation...
  51. Keetchy

Will adding 2 of the same light, double the intensity?

I like both of these options. Thanks guys. The light is a Jayhill light and I got it from amazon so I doubt they will do dimmers for them. Lol. But I can check. If not, I will try both your suggestions before forking out for another light. The light is only £65 but if I can save myself £65, then...
  52. Keetchy

Will adding 2 of the same light, double the intensity?

Thank you man. Still a long way to go before its full. Lol. Ah yeah I think I had a dimmer for it as well. I know it started off at about 50% when it came on and then increased to 100% and then started dimming back down again as the day went on. But I still managed to fail with that tank OK...
  53. Keetchy

Will adding 2 of the same light, double the intensity?

OK this might be an obvious answer but gonna ask the question anyway 😜 I'm only running 1 light, which is a good light for the money. Problem I have is the piece of wood shades parts of the tank. If I move the light to the middle, the MC does good but the Palustris in the back corner is shaded...
  54. Keetchy

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

This is related to my other tank I have. I was adamant I was gonna leave it with just rocks and sand, with no plants, but it looked so bare sat next to the bigger tank. So this happened. Lol. My plan is to take Bacopa and 53B trimmings out of the main tank and plant at the back of this one
  55. Keetchy

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

Ah sweet. Mine is still really small so I'm sure the plants would have rooted properly by the time he's at a size to cause me any issues. Lol. And yeah I frozen blood worms and also algae wafers that I drop in the tank once a week before WC day Ah damn that's not good to hear. But just goes to...
  56. Keetchy

A male betta with high fin cherry barbs?

Hey hey So at the moment my 60 litre tank has just sand and rocks in it, I will not be planting this one out. So far the occupants are 5 high fin cherry barbs and an albino bristlenose. The plan was to just keep the barbs and some smaller fish like tetra. Will a male beta be ok to put in there...
  57. Keetchy

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

Ah noooooo. I did think it would happen eventually as it gets bigger. Lol. That's why I put him in at a small size so gives the plants more time to fully settle into their roots before he starts mayhem. Lol. The albino bristlenoses are good for algae control right? Thanks man. Yeah after a...

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

Here's the difference in the different spots. The 2 in the orange area are trimmings from the red area
  60. Keetchy

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

Help needed please guys. So mind the kiddy crayon lines. Lol. Yellow is flow from filter outlet, blue is flow from surface skimmer, red circle is Ludwigia super red struggling, orange circles are Ludwigia super red doing well. So I'm guessing the Ludwigia is not doing well in the red area...
  61. Keetchy

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

So a bit of a trim today and some gaps filled in. Decided to plant a few trimmings of the Ludwigia in a couple of different spots in the tank too. Think they will look good there breaking up the green a little
  62. Keetchy

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

Good stuff man. Yeah the guys on here definitely know their stuff and have massively helped me out along the way too. Everyday is a school day when reading through threads on here. Really nice to see the different style of tanks too, gives me different ideas

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

So C02 has been running for 5 days now. Such a difference in growth rate when C02 is added. Will get some full tank shots in a couple of days
  66. Keetchy

    Mark's Fluval Flex 123L

Thats good to hear. Yeah flow has a big part in it. Looking forward to seeing the progress
  67. Keetchy

    Mark's Fluval Flex 123L

So at the start of reading this I was like damn, I would have stuck with the original scape, but great job with this bud. Looking amazing. Did I read that you changed the scape from the original because of better flow this way? Plants look like they're thriving
  68. Keetchy

    ‘Lazarus’...80x40x40, back on track!

Hey Cookie Great tank bud. I must admit I have missed seeing tanks like yours on here, very inspirational. Keep it up man. Looking forward to more updates
  69. Keetchy

    AS900- restart and rethink.

Just reading through this thread. Original scape looked amazing mate. Shame you had to rip it down. But this new scape is also a good looking one. I like the red you have in the corner. Sticks out nicely. Looking forward to seeing it progress. It's quite similar to the scape i have just done so...
  70. Keetchy

The Hook and Point (Time to shut down, i'll be back though)

So I got my love back to this side of things with my little 60 litre tank. It was easy to maintain and it was successful. Turned into a nice little tank. Now is time for me to step it up a bit and try on a bigger tank. So my new scape will be in a 160 litre tank. And so far I'm happy with it...

    Keetchy's 60L tank of joy

Bit of a trim today. Looking at it now, I think I should have taken the right side down a bit further. Ah well, ill do it next time
  72. Keetchy

    Keetchy's 60L tank of joy

Thanks dude. Yeah I haven't seemed to see any issues with them getting along yet.
  73. Keetchy

    Keetchy's 60L tank of joy

Hey bud. Thanks. I did get a betta from Chen's but it died 3 or 4 days after putting him in the tank. He wasn't right from the start. Maybe to do with the massive change in temp (i did climatise him properly). So this Betta is from my LFS. So plants are Hygrophila Polysperma far left, 53B far...

    Keetchy's 60L tank of joy

  79. Keetchy

    Keetchy's 60L tank of joy

Much better with the Eheim skimmer running. Within an hour it got to this......
  80. Keetchy

    Keetchy's 60L tank of joy

So the skimmer has been running for 2 days now and the film on top hasn't got any better. I removed the sponge that came with it and replaced it with filter wool. See if this will make a difference And thanks to @Andrew Butler for sending me out the DD jump guard, real easy to fit.
  81. Keetchy

    Keetchy's 60L tank of joy

So first little issue come across, scum forming on the surface. I remove the layer at the start of every WC but by the end of the 2nd day after, there's a thick film back on top. My mate @Jason harris is giving me his spare skimmer lily pipe inlet pipe so I'm gonna attach that to the inlet hose...

    Anyone else have jumpers?

Lol. Yeah I've had them before and always found them up in the light unit out of the water.
  83. Keetchy

    Anyone else have jumpers?

Thanks a lot guys. So far so good, I haven't had any shrimp succeed with escaping, dont even know if they have tried to be honest. I have just put 5 Harlequins in there so I will see if they try to escape. But I do like the look of that grating you have @Inked_aqua so I might give that a try if...
  84. Keetchy

    Keetchy's 60L tank of joy

So now have 8 ammano in there and 5 Harlequins. At least there's a bit of movement in the tank now. And carpet seems to be doing well too. So far so good with algae, can't spot any yet
  85. Keetchy

    Keetchy's 60L tank of joy

Hey Jay. Hope your well. And thanks buddy
  86. Keetchy

    Anyone else have jumpers?

So this is my first open top tank I've had and I'm worried about the shrimp climbing or jumping out of the tank. Does this happen often, any of you guys have jumpers in your tanks and how do you get around it? I like the open top look so would prefer not to stick a lid on it. I could get a piece...
  87. Keetchy

    Keetchy's 60L tank of joy

Thats right bud. There are loads of new leaves coming through where I have cut the stems and they look pretty healthy so far. Fingers crossed I can keep them healthy. Lol
  88. Keetchy

    Keetchy's 60L tank of joy

Thanks. Planning on keeping shrimp and some small tetra. And the main attraction of the tank will be a male betta. A nice colourful, flarey one. Lol
  89. Keetchy

    Keetchy's 60L tank of joy

Thanks Darrel. To be fair I only got the plants from AG about a couple of weeks ago. Lol
  90. Keetchy

    Keetchy's 60L tank of joy

Ello ello. So I couldn't stay away for too long. My first iwagumi tank failed miserably, think it was because it was in a big tank, doing WCs started to become a chore and I lost love for it. But I'm back using my old hospital tank. Its only a 60 litre tank so doing a 75% WC only takes about...

    Keetchy's rescaped, 1st Iwagumi tank (Page 7)

Ah yeah I get ya now. I see George and the guys done that at the big showcase showdown thing they do each year, but got cancelled this year cause of the pandemic. I can see new growth already on the Palustris, H'ra and Acuarta. Also I think I even see fresh green on the MC too
  92. Keetchy

    Keetchy's rescaped, 1st Iwagumi tank (Page 7)

Where would you put the Sessiliflora bud? The sections round the back and sides of the rocks are full up with other plants. Orange juice, H'ra, Acuarta, Palustris and 53B
  93. Keetchy

    Keetchy's rescaped, 1st Iwagumi tank (Page 7)

Thanks guys. Making it much higher at the back is a must but I was limited to the amount of substrate I had. I just used whatever came out of the previous scape. So definitely in the future, if I do Iwagumi again, I'll buy more substrate and also bigger rocks as again, I was limited to the size...
  94. Keetchy

    Scape corner

Wow dude. Great pair of tanks there. That MC has gone nuts and looks awesome. Very healthy tank by the looks of it 👌👍
