I should make a sketch... sorry it's not done. Mabe a more simple explanation works. I will try to glue small peaches of lava rock on a 3mm acrylic plate to form some mountain hills. Then lean this against the back of the tank to elevate the the horizontal line if you can say so.

You can use potting soil... check out YouTube. Gues you won't to mass out some plants, and then transplant into your tank? Consider a dry start if possible, so the roots can reach in where it is supposed to grow.

Update... I still don't change water as often as I should. Mabe every 3 weeks in average. Anyway tank is getting more and more stable. Or at least not so many cyanobacteria now, as the most part only sits on the left side glass. The front glass is now gets completely covered in green algae...

Quick update. After switching some rare and not so accessible plants with another ukaps member the center of the tank is now a nursery for those plants hope they will grow in this low to medium light with high co2, and kind of EI dosing. Had to give away most of my rare African floating plant...

Here in Denmark a lot of people use Rexolin. Making micro fert mix or all in one fert mix. Also in nutrient-enriched substrate with red clay and spagnum/peat.

About planting it is possible to do with the fingers, but it will be pain in the ass long term. You need tweezers for sure, especially for stems as you might snap/break the stems with your fingers. Stems you often won't to plant close and dense to get the look many are going after. In that case...

As a rule of thumb (for smaller fish): 1 cm fish / 1 liter water. (normal bio load) 10 rummy nose (5-7cm long) would then require 50-70 liters of water. ofcourse you can double the bio load in your tank if you double the bio media in your filter. But I agree with less is more!

This was my last try: The plants with XL is a 9 cm "in vitro" wich contains more than 3 times the plats material as a standart 1, 2 grow from tropica (5 cm in vitro) It might be enough with just a 5 cm for some of the plats, but its just 1 or 2 euros more to get the bigger one!!

Guess I will have to try that out... but the look I think it will give makes me wonder: Have someone tried mounting the "bar" above water surface, and have "L" shaped nozzles just reaching into the surface? Think that could give a more discreet look.

Of was also thinking of: planting Eleocharis montevidensis, just left to the HMF, as I think it could give perspective because it might look like the vallisneria at a long distance.
