    Mesh bags vs plant roots

I use mesh bags with John Innes Number 3 / old substrate (aquasoil / sand). I sometimes add fertiliser tabs.I initially bought bags with plastic zips from ebay more recently I use the mesh fruit bags that lidl sell. I cap them with enough sand to plant in. It works wonderfully. Plants root into...

    Breeding Tetras

Many thanks for the advice. It is very much appreciated. This is a picture of one of the fish. It is about three years old. I have five of them that stick together. I am not by any stretch of the imagination an expert a fish identification) but this doesn't look like a black neon.

    Breeding Tetras

Does anyone know of any useful sites, videos or books on breeding tetras? I have a few fish which look similar to a black neon and were sold as such but aren't (they have olive green in the body are larger). I was down at T A Aquaculture last week and mentioned this to them and was told that...

What is the quietest canister you've used?

I am looking for a new external filter which is reasonably powerful (for my 360 litre aquarium), spares are available and above all is silent. Soil Substrate or Dirted Tank - A How to Guide

I would be tempted to provide a base layer of gravel then place the aquasoil within the net bags and finally the layer of sand. In this way the soil is readily acessible to the plants but is separated from the sand and gravel allowing both to be reused. A gravel base layer also makes more sense...

It's a two week old set-up. IRL it is quite clear. The glass needs a clean and I really need a new camera! Any cloudiness comes from a collection of 5 plecs who have created caves under the wood and stone and my collection of corydorus digging in the sand. The filter has the standard Aquael...
